    Default I love animals, but...

I swear I feel like I want to kick the crap out of my sister's cat, and she's over it too.

Cat is a 2 yr old snowshoe (half siamese, half something else) who lives a charmed life with my sister's other cat and her german shepherd puppy. My sister and her fiance are great care-givers to these animals; they dote on them, feed them the best food, play with them tons etc.

Just recently, this cat has started yowling, and I do mean YOWLING, all FUCKING NIGHT. Like hours and hours on end. Incessantly. Like it's "meow. meow. MEOW. MRRWWWWAAAAWWWWWWW..... MRAAAAWWWWWWWWWW......" My sister started trapping the cats in the bathroom overnight about three months ago because they scratch the furniture, but this cat has just started this habit about three weeks ago. And she yowls whether my sister traps her or not; we tried both options to see if there was any improvement.

Her cat has been to the vet, nothing wrong with her. She gets plenty of attention from my sister. She has a cat buddy (my sister has a large male cat as a buddy for this one) and she's had no enviromental changes.

Cat people, any help? Aside from the meowing and yowling my sister adores her.

It's the downside of owning a kitty. Noctural. The want out to have sexins and hunt and stuff

Siamese are very talkative cats that need tons of human affection. I had a Siamese when I was single, and he was a wonderful kitty. But when I met my boyfriend and spent less time with my kitty, he became super destructive. He basically just tore my apartment up every time I'd leave him alone for more than an hour or so.

I ended up putting him up for adoption, because I just needed to get some sleep!

She could be in heat. Has she been spayed?

Yup, she was spayed when my sister got her. Only thing that's changed is me on the couch! Maybe she doesn't like me? Heh...

My mom's siamese is like that, but it's not just at night - it's all day too. And at night she's started attacking. She never did either of those things when she lived with me.

    Lonely? Some kind of change?

Did she start doing this when you started sleeping there? If so...thats prob it.Cats are VERY picky about their routine and environment not changing. And being Siamese,a very vocal breed, thats how she'll express her stress.

I have a spaztic cat...named Spaz. When I started dating my now-husband, Spaz went nuts. Now keep in mind, I lived in NY, boyfriend Brent in Flordia. So, we talked on the phone quite a bit. Spaz started yowling every time the phone rang shortly after Brent and I started talking more than normal (about a week). So, whenever the phone would ring, Spaz would yowl. It got to the point where she would purposely knock the phone off the hook (this was before I had a cell phone).

Point being, cats are very sensitive animals, some more so than others. If the cat isn't in heat, it has to be a change in the environment. Maybe a change in seasons? Maybe the cat got outside once and loved it, and now wants out all the time? Maybe the locking in the bathroom screwed her up, and now she is permanently traumatized? Maybe it is you? lol

Best of luck figuring it out!

The sofa might have been their "turf" before you moved in, so they're scratching the furniture to mark their territory. Scratching allows the deposition of scent from their paws, so get a scratching post and cover it with the same material as the couch. This will help redirect the scratching behavior. And since cats are likely to re-scratch areas they've already marked, try using an odor neutralizer to deodorize areas and help break the cycle.

It's so important to calm cats in stressful situations or new environments, such as meeting new pets or people, being left alone, etc. There are many homeopathic cat-calming products formulated w/essential oils & herbs that help relax your cat during stressful periods and help alleviate their anxiety & unwanted behavior. I'm sure once the cats get comfortable being around you, they'll mellow out. Just try to be patient!

    Good Luck

^^everything she said! Plus...theres a great product called Soft Paws that she can try. If the cat spazzes about her applying them,a groomer will put them on for you..usually pretty cheaply. http://www.softpaws.com/

siamese are mouthy as FUCK. i used to have a himalayan, which is part siamese.... try to wear the cat out during the day. also, try feliway comfort zone. if the cat is stressed out because you're there, the feliway will help - it's like a plug in valium for kitties.

siamese mixes will always be mouthy. if it's acting up at night, however, it is acting out because it wants attention. make sure to give it attention before bed, and set boundries.
