Alright - i've been dying to know this. A lot of women don't wash their hair everyday. How the hell do you do this ? Is there a rinse to get rid of the day-to-day grime ? I know shampooing everyday is damaging, but how do you girls do this ?

I NEVER wash my hair, but I also have "European" hair. I own a dry shampoo and also am not against the occasional baby powder dusting,

I simply rinse with water every day or every other day. I shampoo maybe 2x a month, but condition my ends several times a week. I've never used dry shampoo, so I can't say what that's like. I shampoo if I'm in a smoky atmosphere or otherwise get excessively dirty hair. But for everyday care, I just rinse and style as usual.

You girls scare me.
A lot.
I think I'm going to go shampoo my hair now... with the bottle that says it has vitamins and makes my hair all silky feeling and shiney....
Yes, I'm real.

I think I'm with you on this. Until someone can give me some insight I guess. But really? I never knew there's women that don't wash their hair, at all, or only a couple times a month. How long is your hair that you guys don't wash? Maybe that has something to do with it?!
The detergents in shampoo actually damage hair. Not to mention the environmental damage from the plastic bottles, and the chemicals from the shampoo leach into groundwater.
If you have greasy hair, rinsing with baking soda will get rid of the grease, and any smells, leaving hair beautiful and shiny. For dry hair rinse with white distilled vinegar.
Oh, and its a lot cheaper than shampoo, too.

My hair is long and shiny, just FYI I left out a bit. The dry Shampoo/ Conditioner I use is sebastian spray that u brush through. Also I think blonde hair can get away with it a little longer.

There are really good ones these days though that are not harsh on hair. They have improved formulas in the last decade. I get mine at the beauty store BUT you can buy them in salons. Not too sure about store bought ones. I'm still wanting to know the length of the hair that doesn't get washed. Maybe shorter hair is easier to manage in this method? I'm thinking. I'm still totally intrigued by this....
^^My hair is past my shoulders, just slightly, though. I'm a natural blonde, so maybe that is the difference?

I've tried the dry shampoo way once, with some Oscar Blandi powder. I didn't even notice. I don't know what i'd do without you girls..

......

I rinse my hair everyday with water and detangle it with conditioner and wide tooth comb. I only use diluted shampoo(mixed with water) once or twice a week. I wish i could get away with shampooing even less. Shampoo with sulfates are really damaging to the hair and can cause alot of dryness. Plus you really don't need to shampoo hair so often if you rinse daily, unless you have really oily hair and overload on products. Water alone can get rid of my sweat and the gel I use daily. Some people don't ever use shampoo at all. They use conditioner only to wash and condition their hair. It doesn't mean they are dirty, there are many methods of keeping hair clean and healthy. Most people are just programmed to think shampooing and conditioning is necessary to keep hair clean.

my hair is bleached and boob length. i haven't washed it every day for years.... probably over a decade. i hate washing my hair - i probably wash it every 4 or 5 days. there comes a point where it starts acting a little greasy, then my head gets itchy.... it's time to wash then. i figure my poor hair is tortured enough with UV rays, straightening, and blow drying..... i don't have to do more to it. i wash my hair, rinse, then every other wash i put purple shampoo in with the second batch to wash it again. i always try to let my conditioner sit for a little bit so my hair is soft.
my hairdressers have always commented on how i was doing a good job taking care of my hair. for me, it just came down to the fact that i'm effin lazy and i don't like my natural hair texture - thus, i don't want to blowdry it straight every day.

i also try to keep my brushing to a minimum. it's not unheard of for me to forget to brush my hair for a whole day.
I'm just wondering what sorta day-to-day grime you get in your hair? Smoke smell from work? I have a blowdryer which takes out any odors with just a slight blast of cool air. Here is an article about it:
http://hubpages.com/hub/FHI-HEAT-Int...on-Blow-Dryers
"Both dryers offer FHI Heat's patented Nano-FuzeionTM technology, a unique combination of Nano-Titanium, Nano-Titanium Dioxide and Nano-Silver particles. Together the triple function of the Nano-FuzeionTM technology removes bacteria, toxins and static, producing superior conditioning and shine, while providing unmatched health and purification benefits for the hair. Both dryers also feature ceramic tourmaline technology, low EMF (electro magnetic field), and emit gentle far infrared heat to prevent damage to hair. "
I wash every 2 or 3 days with a gentle shampoo on the roots only. Condition the hell out of the rest of it and avoid styling products like hairspray and gel. I have bleached blonde hair halfway down my back. My hair HAS to be touchable and soft above all else, and products just gunk it up. I get tooons of compliments on my hair too, I was sort of known for it when I danced.

"I hear you calling and it's needles and pins. I wanna hurt you just to hear you screaming my name...You're poision. but I don't wanna break these chains.... I wanna love you but I'd better not touch."
I can only go everyother day with out washing if I'm not doing anything the second day... I work out everyday and my hair gets soooooo nasty from sweat. Does anyone have any cures for that by chance?

I'm also an infrequent shampooer. I wash it about once a week. In the meantime, if I get greasy, I use baking soda to soak up the oil.

i stopped using shampoo bout 3 weeks ago. im using baking soda and vinegar. or just plain water. my new home has a water softener. and that helps my hair to stay cleaner. ive noticed less frizz already. i stopped using shampoo cuz even though i dont use products, dye or heat on my hair it still looked dry and frizzy and shity. so maybe this will help. if not, my hair will be dry frizzy shity and dirty. yeah![]()
Oh for cryin' out loud...
I am always amazed how many people are SCARED of not shampooing everyday. "Dirty" hair isn't gonna run up and bite you or turn you into a hobo! Jeez.

*sigh* sorry, I'm a little snippy today. grr.
Ok, on a more constructive note, and to actually answer the OP's question...
The general theory is this:
When people decide to shampoo less, they generally go through a transition period. Instead of washing every day, they start with every 2 days, then 3, then 4... you get my drift. The hair may look greasy for a little while, while your scalp adjusts.
After a while, your scalp actually adjusts and begins to make LESS oil.
Often times, using shampoo daily will strip the scalp of too many oils, thus stimulating it to make too much oil. Reducing shampoo use allows it to calm down and not make so much oil.
Getting cigarette smoke or other nasties out of your hair is another story; then, yes, I'd wash it.
Hope this helps!

I don't wsh mine every single day, but I do wash it. I'm just too lazy to wash it everyday. It's always in a bun so I don't need too BUT I also had no clue some women don't wash their hair at all. I'm totally interested in this. I guess cuz I'm such a damn nosey person!![]()
Mine gets washed on the weekends, before work. That's it. But only b/c I'm lazy and it's way too long to be washing/conditioning all the time. Also, I want to know this. When you guys rinse it with water only, are you in the shower? Or do you do that like, over a sink or something? Does your hair get tangled at all when you use just use water? Thanks!

I wash my hair about once a week. I CANNOT wash it every day, or even every other day. Doesn't matter what shampoo I try, it dries my hair and scalp out so badly I get huge dandruff flakes.
That all goes away when I seldom wash it. And no, my hair is not greasy at all.

I wash my hair 2-3x per wk. My hair is blonde and boob length.
