being that that consistency and taste very GREATLY depending on how it's prepared, I'm not sure what you're getting at.

I'm a vegetarian, and I love tofu- but only if prepared right. It tastes really terrible if it isn't... like college cafeteria tofu... gross...!

I hate tofu make me wanna puke just saying the word But then I'm also extremely allergic to soy, milk, wheat, corn, eggs, and fish so I'm sure that's why i get queezy thinking about it

I can't eat it when it's all wiggly-n-jiggly (the way restaurants usually serve it is disgusting). If you cook it right, it takes on whatever flavors you put in. I buy extra firm tofu, drain it really well on paper towels & use it for Tofu Scramble. Adding turmeric makes it yellow + black Indian salt (which is actually pink) mimics the taste of real eggs.

Freezing tofu first, then defrosting it changes the texture completely (it becomes like chicken) - which is great too. I slice & bake it before adding to whatever recipe I'm making - mock chicken tofu, tofu stroganoff, baked bbq tofu, etc.

Then again, there's always seitan, tempeh, gluten, texturized vegetable protein, portabello mushrooms & Tofurkey!

Yes, at restaurants they're gross. I tried making a morning tofu scramble and I guess I didn't cook it long enough, or seasoned it correctly. It was nasty!
I really really wanna learn to love it cuz since I've left meat I see lots of recipes that call for it.

Thanks for the tips Mina!! I will give it another try with extra firm tofu and the correct cooking method. I'm willing to try. I can't be this bad, people eat it all the time!

It's awesome fried, but not so healthy. I make a fried tofu stirfy by shaking the cut tofu up in a bag with a little cornstarch and then frying it in coconut oil. You have to cook it for a long time though, until it sounds hollow when you tap on it, otherwise it gets soggy.

We only eat it once or twice a year, and usually with an orange sauce. It's very good, even my parents like it and they despise tofu.

I make yummy baked tofu. All you have to do is use the extra firm kind, press all the water out, then soak it in soy sauce. I cover it in seasme seeds and bake it until its chewy.

^^ I make a similar Korean-style tofu by adding sesame oil, minced garlic, thinly sliced green onions, sugar & red pepper flakes to the soy sauce and marinade. After broiling I sprinkle w/roasted sesame seeds & serve with hot rice.

Omit the sesame oil, red pepper flakes & sesame seeds, then add finely grated fresh ginger & you've got teriyaki sauce!

For tofu scramble, the trick is to cook the tofu by itself FIRST. This will dry it up a bit.

Get your extra firm tofu, drain the water, lay out a few paper towels, crumble the tofu ontop, cover w/a few more paper towels & press the water out. Set a large frying pan on high heat, give it a spritz of butter flavored Pam, then add the tofu crumbles. Saute to evaporate any excess moisture, and until it's cooked to your liking.

Now lower the heat to medium & add the seasonings (recipe link in my previous post), but if it calls for veggies (onion, mushrooms, bell peppers, etc.) - saute those in a SEPARATE pan, because they'll release their juices & make your tofu slimy all over again! You can add them to the tofu once they're cooked.

Remember: tofu takes on whatever flavors you add to it, so when you're making, say, a tofu scramble, just season the tofu the way you season your eggs (you can even do mock eggs Benedict!)

p.s. I've posted a few other tofu recipes - mock egg McMuffins, mock egg salad, etc. in other threads. Just do a search.
