    Default USAir = EPIC FAIL

So they now charge an additional $25 per bag.

Do they deliver a bag for $25? No.

Not only do they not deliver the bag but they dick around doing every thing possible to avoid doing the one thing that would actually help the customer, ME. Like calling the airport where the bag is sitting around. For nearly 24 hours they fuck around. I escalated it up, up, and up and still.. all they can say is.. it might be on the next flight cause yea, they are incapable of calling the airport where the bag sits for $25 and asking them to put it on the next flight.

My guess is they are union workers, but I know one thing... FAIL. And then Americans wonder why the economy is shitty and work is going over seas to people who actually get it... work means you work while being paid, not sit around and find every way possible to do anything but actually work.

    Err yea .. PISSED.

p.s. I did finally get my bag by escalating it up to the highest level I could but god help you if the airline loses you bag... the apathy level is terrifying.. EPIC FAIL!

I threaten to sue, they made me put my meds into my checked bag. I told them to pay 500 dollars or get my bag back in two hours. Guess which came first.

The sad thing is the one thing that would have helped me was the one thing they refused to do.. I actually got a call from the originating airport, my bag found without a tag. Fine. But the system does not allow for anyone in baggage claim to call and ask, which flight will the bag be sent out on? There is no tracking? The law says the have 24 hours before they have to escalate it so they basically do nothing .. maybe someone will put it on a flight, maybe it will just sit there, but there is no incentive for their employees to do anymore then the bare minimum required to earn their pay check. I wonder if they are union employees? That was the type of apathy that made me despise working with other union protected workers. Like socialism, everyone just lowered themselves to the lowest common denominator that would pay them. Why try harder? There is no benefit unless one has aspirations to be a manager and managers are "them", the bad guys.

My luggage has been lost, a total of.. no joke 13 times in my life. I am not a avid world traveler or jet setting big wig executive, it's just shitty luck on my part. I have learned to travel with one small suitcase (unless it's a 7 day+) trip. Maybe everyone else will do the same and they will stop this bullshit.

Sure, you can get in my cab with your 2 month old Baby for 50 cents a mile but if you want to put the baby seat in, it's gonna run you $50. Um, no.

when i fly back to michigan, i normally fly delta into a smaller airport. having NEVER gotten my luggage when I land i can completely understand your frustration. my personal favorite was landing at gate 32a in atlanta, and being transfered to a second flight two hours later at gate 33a. right across the hallway. i made it, the bag didn't.

carry on luggage is your friend. unless its for 5 days or more, i will never again check luggage. it sucks carrying a heavy duffel bag around, but it's so liberating cuz you know you have all your shit.

Ugh...this is a HUGE worry of mine when I travel. And I usually am traveling for work so checking a bag is inevitable with everything I have to bring with me. I've learned to consolidate though (I'm a chronic overpacker) into one checked bag,one carry on and my laptop. Thats a huge accomplishment for me!! But yeah...if they lose my bag I'm fucked since all my costumes and props and shit I would need for work are in there(theres no way they fit into a carry on..though I try to put a cpl simple things in carry on so I'm covered for a cpl days at least just in case).
Thankfully I've never had it lost (they've lost it WITHIN the airport several times where I had to go on a scavenger hunt to find it which was enough of a PIA). Knock on wood!

You know what's really crazy? Your chances of losing your bag on an international flight are almost zero. I was scared when I left the country because I had two stops in other countries, but the lady who worked at O Hare assured me my bags would be way safer. She said they laugh about the fact that only the U.S. loses luggage. I guess its an internal problem....

I'm flying later this month, and I plan on just shipping my luggage to my destination via UPS. When I traveled to dance I did this quite a bit. UPS never lost my luggage, and today's hotels are totally cool with people shipping their items, just place your reservation # on the package.

P.S. Baggage handlers in the USA are not airline employees, they are contractors. Same w/ the people that clean the planes and more often than not, those that repair the planes. There is an ad for AirServ (contracting co.) in Houston that wants baggage handlers for $6.75 an hour. Feel any safer yet?

    job listing.

The UPS idea is a good one. I've traveled quite a bit and try to avoid checking baggage but sometimes it can't be avoided. One tip I won't forget now... if you must check baggage watch them when they put the tags on. Make sure they press it firmly so that it is less likely to come off like it did mine.

^^^^ For my bag of checked liquids, I have them put a fragile sticker on it.

That particular job description sounds like a skycap (guy that meets you curbside & carries bags to check in counter for you). Skycaps also work for tips, like dancers. The workers who actually transport bags from check in counter to aircraft, vice versa at destination, and between connecting flights at connecting hub may still be airline employees. As would be the customer service rep at the other end who was 1 major source of OP's problem. But, airlines like many other organizations do their share of "outsourcing".

International Airlines seem to have it together. I have NEVER had a problem outside the states. I have no idea why american airlines have such problems. It's really pathetic.
