Default What are a main dancers "accessories)

Hello, so Im really new to this, I just signed up yesterday and I went into my first audition today and got the job!
So now Im worried, I dont know what to bring to the club and what to leave home. I have been on this site for a couple of hours ready and memorizing all the tips, especially ones safety.

I had a question about money. Where do I keep it when Im on stage? I know most of the girls say do not bring a big clunky purse into the club and keep your money on your garter.
How does one do that, maybe Im dumb but wouldnt it fall out? How do you guys keep it secure and what is a "garter purse". How do I make one....lol
What about my phone and id, Im thinking of getting a prepaid phone. I dont want to take anything personal of mine into the club.

Im 5'9, Is it important to wear extreamly high heels?
Im also worried about the music, does the club play whatever they want? Or do they ask the dancer what she prefers? and if so, what should I choose?...Im nervous.

Do most of the club you ladies dance at require you to make a minimum of $$ a night? What happens if you dont.

Thank you all for your answers.

This post should help with what to bring. Check out the threads at the top of the newbie board page as well. You'll find many of your answers there.

You're not dumb. I carry a small clutch. Some girls carry small bags, others keep it in their garter with a rubber band around it. Do what makes you comfortable.

What about my phone and id, Im thinking of getting a prepaid phone. I dont want to take anything personal of mine into the club.

At my club we're not allowed to have phones on the floor. So I keep mine in my locker. If you don't have a locker get a bag that you can lock.

Comfort comfort comfort. If the shoes aren't comfortable don't wear them, regardless of heel height. There are many very tall girls in my club who wear 6-7 in heels. That's what they're comfortable wearing. Wear whatever allows you to work without hurting.

Im also worried about the music, does the club play whatever they want? Or do they ask the dancer what she prefers? and if so, what should I choose?...Im nervous.

If you get to pick your music, pick something that you know you like and can get into. Something that flows. Remember to just move slowly, breathe and smile.

Most of us are charged a house fee. This means that we pay the club a certain amount to work each night.

Sorry I missed church. I was too busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian.

You can carry a purse or use a garter. I prefer to carry a small purse. make sure to keep an eye on it at all times, even while you're on stage (I had mine stolen from the stage once). I like to drop my money off at my locker every now and again so that if something does happen to my purse, at least I didn't lose all my money.

A prepaid phone is a great idea. And I leave my ID in my car.

Extremely tall heels aren't necessary, but you may want to ask the club about it because they may have a height requirement.

At my club, we don't get to pick our own music. If you do get to pick your own music make sure to pick songs that you like, that make you feel good and sexy.

You have to pay maintenance to work in the club, its $X per shift, and usually varies depending on if its day shift or night shift, weekday or week night. My club requires it up front BEFORE you work your shift, after that its up to you to make as little or as much as you can. Its not uncommon for the manager to waive the fee for your first shift.

Here's a list of what I take to the club with me, you may want to add or remove things based on what you might need to be prepared for:

    - my outfits (2)
    - my thongs (3)
    - my shoes
    - my jewelry
    - makeup (foundation lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, liner, etc) and brushes
    - hair straightener/curling iron, brush, comb
    - hairspray, defrizzing cream, spray gel, bobby pins, barettes, ponytail holders, clips
    - nailpolish and remover
    - deodorant, body spray, mouth wash, baby wipes
    - bandaids (I got blisters on my feet the first night from my shoes), neosporin, motrin, headcold medicine

    good luck!!!!!

I also want to add that some of these answers may be effected by your clubs specific rules. For example, plenty of clubs have shoe-height minimums, typically 3 or 4 inches, although I have worked at clubs that require 5 or higher. Also, some clubs will not allow you to carry a purse or a pouch on the floor. I've worked at 4 clubs and 2 of them do not allow it. Music will also vary greatly from club to club and dj to dj. Some places won't play hip-hop at certain times of the day. Some places won't play much alternative music, etc. Some DJs/managers are known for letting the girls control a good deal of their music selection, others are not. You'll find most fall somewhere in between. IOW you'll likely have some say over what's played for you (bands you like, a genre, etc) but it's doubtful you'll pick all your songs name-for-name every set. Oh and, -typically- the longer you work somewhere and the longer you know a certain DJ the better chances you have of being more closely linked to your music selection... esp if you tip well and are consistently making money.

^Yeah I actually meant to say some of that myself and for some reason the thought didn't actually translate into the post.

A tip that helped me when I was new:

When you're on stage and your nervous, scared, whatever, try to dance really SLOW, and pretend like your taking a shower. Yes, a shower. Touch your body slowly in a way like when you take a shower with soap. As crazy as it sounds..... it helped me.
