Default after you quit: the fate of your stripper outfits?

What are you going to do with your outfits when you quit dancing?

Last night I gave away half of my stripper outfits. Most of them went to a new girl who didn't have much; others went to several girls who were always asking to borrow said item. A few of the pieces no one wanted; I just threw them away.

Everyone else was shocked that I would give away and/or throw out outfits. But I'm quitting dancing, so what else would I do with them? I guess I could get $20 for some of the newer-looking outfits, but I really just do not care. Almost everyone looked at me like I was crazy and asked "but don't you want to save them?" No; what for?

Maybe I am crazy. Or maybe my attitude towards stripping is different from others? Dancing was the biggest mistake I ever made and the biggest regret of my life. I wish I'd never started, and I want to get rid of everything associated with it. Unfortunately one can never get rid of 3 years' worth of stripping-related experiences and memories, but I cannot wait until I start waitressing again and can at least get rid of the outfits I've got left. And make other girls' nights in the process, lol--everyone was stoked to get free new outfits.

Those of you who have stopped dancing (or are planning to, sooner or later)...what are you going to do with your outfits when the time comes? Sell them? Save a few favorite outfits, or save all of them? Throw them away? Inquiring minds want to know.

Um.... sorry stripping destroyed your life.... it saved mine.

I give away clothing items all the time, or trade them. Last week I gave away a skirt that I never wear because it made my legs look stubby to a girl who looked FANTASTIC in it. I also gave a top to a girl who was just starting out and needed outfits that showed more skin.

I would only charge for an item if I would've thought it could still be useful in the bedroom..... but even then, why would I be giving it away? And if I couldn't use it still, well, why am I charging to get rid of it? I'm not losing anything by giving it away. It's trash to me. But I think throwing it away would be wasteful..... considering it could be another girl's favorite thing.

Call it charity. I call it unloading.

Shoes and thongs, though, try to sell them to fetishists. I heard they pay well.

I kept my outfits, but that is because part of me knows I might give stripping another try at some point in the future. I did sell some of my shoes to the local buy/sell/trade place.

If you KNOW you are done, then I think how you handled your outfits is totally appropriate. If you have had a bad experience, I can totally see why you would want to get rid of things associated with it.

I have alot of fond memories of stripping and this part of my life so I think that Iwill keep a few things. I am really sorry that you had such a bad experience. If you don't mind me asking, if you hated it so much why did you keep doing it for three years. I know this is a rude question, i am just curious. Of course you can always tell me to go f myself.

I'm going to keep all my outfits. I've spent a lot of time and way more money than I should have on them and cultivating my look. I've also fitted a lot of them to my body, embellished them and sometimes I'll cut them up and use the fabric or embellishments to add to other outfits. Basically, there is way too much $ and time in that suitcase (which is why it is locked ALWAYS) for me to ever just throw them away. I might give them away when I eventually quit, but I don't know, I love all my outfits, they're my babies (which is how I feel about all my clothes.

The items in real bad shape (and some were 3-4 years) I donated to several organizations that take rags. A few (mostly the gowns and things like that) I donated to a thrift shop that benefits an animal shelter (my main charity). Others I gave to a friend but I kept those in good shape. The one reason being I sometimes still do bachelor parties so I need outfits for that. The other is because some are quite sexy and a future boyfriend might enjoy looking at them.

Kellydancer: good thinking; maybe I will keep one or two lingerie-type outfits for any future boyfriends.

audreyK: I know what you mean; I do feel the same way about my regular clothes. I can't remember the last time I gave away or threw out an article of clothing from my closet!

devilkitty: nah, it's not a rude question. But it is kind of a long story and I don't really want to get into it. Especially after that snide "um, sorry stripping ruined your life" comment someone else posted.

Well I am sure that you have at least learned from this experience and I hope that your next phase of your life is better. Nothing is completely bad if you learn from it.

I sold most of my stuff on ebay. I did keep a few items that I am especially fond of, and want to keep. I listed the outfits in groupings, since they are all the same size. I made some decent money off the items, too.

I'm sorry you hated dancing. That's how I felt about the corporate world, it sucked the life right out of me. So I understand what it is like to wash your hands of a career, been there, done that.

    Good luck to you!

I sold almost all of my current stuff when I stopped dancing last year. I've still got a lot of stuff but I don't think it's worth much since it's old so I haven't sold it.

There are a few things I'm keeping, some for sentimental reasons, other stuff that I made, but I'm about ready to just throw the rest out.

I will more than likely sell my clothes at the club. The ones that don't sell will go on ebay. I will throw out the shoes, as my shoes are in awful shape. I'll keep a few things that I love, because whose to say I won't have to ever go back into dancing. Even if I win the lotto that's still the plan, but I'll give the money from the clothes to charity with a little extra lotto money too.

I gave away most of my costumes, I sold lots of thongs. So many that I had to buy new ones just to sell. Weirdos abound! I did keep one blue sparkle bra, just for old times sake.

Now, when I give my BF a LD, I wish I had kept an outfit or two.

I too am sorry you did not like stripping. I loved the money and the schedule. I met some great people. I had a good time. I wish you happiness.

When I stopped dancing for a bit I kept all the clothes... Because I tend to wear them around the house. [I don't like to be NAKED... but it gets HOT in LA]

I have a ziplock bag CRAMMED with the few outfits I had left when I stopped dancing. I will NEVER get rid of them. They are my 'photo album' of the years I worked. And I don't regret a single day I was there....
    Ohhh, the memories....

Mine just sit hidden in a gym bag in my closet. I sort of know I will probably work again at some point.

....but I can see the appeal of being rid of them if you are truly done. I've burned things to re-enforce this point ! The burning was done in a fun way ( textbooks from school via onfire with friends after many of us were so sick of being students we could cry ) .

Some things I give away, others go into my dance memories box.

I give away/sell costumes all the time because I'm constantly changing my mind about what I like and don't like. I usually only sell the ones that I've either never worn or only worn once or twice. The rest go into a big box that I'll toss in the middle of the dressing room. Just be ready to step quickly out of the way. You'd think it was their first Christmas the way some of the girls go for the freebies!
