Travel Is VEGAS really this bad now??

If you've seen the Aug 24 issue of Time Magazine, you know it has a cover article about how bad the recession is hitting there, even mentioning the adult entertainment/stripping biz. If not, here's a link: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1915962-3,00.html

To Vegas dancers (or travelers there): Is it really this bad? The reporter, Joel Stein, says dancers are undercharging??

To customers in Vegas: Is this true?

shameless plug: StripAndGrowRich.com is mentioned on page 3 of the article!

Oh, it's that bad all right.

Bad enough that me and my friends go into a club and spend our "we're just hanging out" minimum and get treated like the best thing to walk in the door in months because we tipped half the girls a few bucks for every set and bought a couple of 2-for-1's.

Bad enough that MissMynxx is getting calls from former mangers BEGGING - literally BEGGING her to come back, offering revised contract terms and lower rent and higher percentages and whatever she wants because they' had only 4 girls on a Saturday night. At a not small club on SC row.

Bad enough that I know a half dozen girls that went INTO dancing because the economy wwas so bad, and are now freaking out becuase there's hardly any money there either.

Mind you some clubs are doing okay, and some dancers are too, but it's really bad.

I was just there last week ... Vegas seemed quite dead to me as compared with previous years when I've been there around this time in the summer. Mind you this is a slow time of year anyway, but the taxi drivers even seemed please to have customers (vs previous years when many just complained). The club I stopped into on my last night seemed reasonably busy but it was late. The hard rock was not crowded, but not dead either. I noted a LOT of tables opened with small bets, and slot machines barely being used. No waiting for tables at any restaurant.

Don't know. Looks like there is still business but I have the definite feeling business was slow.

LOL... my trip ended up being rather unplanned. Last night at the hard rock, it was getting late... I a bit drunk... somehow I ended up in a cab; you know that it goes ... Vegas is awesome

    Excuses, excuses...

And Brit - you're correct. This being the "SC Mecca" that it's always been, it got real crowded with dancers real fast - more strippers cutting up a rapidly shrinking pie. Only the girls who do it for fun and a little extra cash more than sole income or the really top earners really keep at it, and most of them have cut hours WAY back (former) or started working 40-50+ hour weeks (the latter, many of whom previously worked MAYBE 3 or 4 4 to 6 hour shifts a week to make MORE than they do now).

Several of MM's friends from the clubs have asked if my company has any openings they could fill!

^^ Yup. I'm officially moving out. Put down my apartment deposit yesterday here in Austin, and I am DREADING going back to LV tonight and working the next 5 days.

For the OP, it is so bad that when I was projecting my potential moving money, I was only estimating making $150/shift. And I thought I was being generous.

Anyone can make $ anywhere if they use your tools. Just because the Vegas girls leave town doesn't mean there is more $ elsewhere! It just means they think there is.

I know lots of people are going to miss you in LV! You're making a good move to Austin. Great place. I'm about 4 hours north of you in Dallas. PM me and maybe we can come find you in Vegas next week.

No offense, but that is dumb. You're not dancing here and you don't know what you're talking about.

If people have less money to spend there is less money making potential, especially with more dancers working and needing the money more than ever... That doesn't mean you CAN'T make money, but I did make a lot more elsewhere.

Dumb? You think the Strip and Grow Rich program is dumb? WOW!

My point was that, as stated above^^ there is less $. BUT there is less $ everywhere so with the SGR program you are armed with the best tools to make cash anywhere! Just because you went out of town and made more, doesn't necessarily mean there was more there. It COULD mean that you had a fresh outlook on a new place? JMO. No need for name calling

There has always been confusion about Vegas coming from a customers and "reporters/outsiders" point of view.

Customers will constantly tell girls to come to Vegas because they could do "so well here" But unfortunately, to that customer, seeing clubs here that are far bigger and upscale then in their hometown, have more customers and more girls then their hometown, makes the customer assume that Vegas is the place for success if you are a dancer. BUT THIS IS NOT AND NEVER WILL BE THE CASE. I feel a dancer working at a dive with 20 girls in a "normal city" has more opportunity to make money, then a dancer who works in an upscale Vegas club competing with upwards of 500+ girls on weekends. Keep in mind girls who travel here also have to pay travel expenses, etc. Vegas isn't the stripping-mecca everyone believes it is, and never has been. Maybe last decade LOL!

Everyone has always assumed customers, reporters, (even myself) that if you dance in Vegas you will have no problem making $1,000+ a night. I will tell you from experience this is far from the truth for alot of girls. I have been lucky enough to maintain my personal goals though.

Now the economy is worse, there are less travelers, and the girls really haven't gone anywhere. You may see less but there are still plenty traveling in in hope of making money, so yes! It very well could be that bad.

But regardless it wont keep us down! I myself am auditioning soon (I went to a few clubs that I am intrested in within the past weeks) despite the bad economy. I live locally so it is not a big expense for me to travel here, thankfully.

I'm going to have to agree- you can't squeeze money out of a rock. when there are 400 girls and 300 guys, i don't care what kind of mad skills you think you have- there are just no laps to use them on. and particularly in vegas, girls have game. its not a bunch of ammatuers somewhere in east bumble fuck- vegas girls are sharks. and noone said anything about SandGR
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

I personally think dancing in Vegas is a statistical numbers game. It always has been, and right now the statistics are not stacked in the dancer's favor.

Yes, there is ALWAYS a possibility to do REALLY well if you have social capital at your club and always get introduced to the best tables first.

However, the probability of being that girl depends on a lot of factors, both internal and external to the club. Some of the internal factors are: how long you have worked there, how much social capital you have, do you bring anything to the table (i.e. do you have regulars that patronize that club just to see you) do you bounce between clubs or stay at one, do they know your name when you walk in or are you just a number? The external factors are: what is the predominant demographic of the conventions that week (I only go to Vegas for events like SEMA, WOC, and ConExpo that draw over 100,000 middle aged male attendees) is it a weekend jam packed with The Southwest Stripper Flight (remember that article that circulated 2 years ago?) and if you are a wanna dance girl or a skilled sales person.

What you are going to see is many more top level dancers than the environment can support.

That is what my dancer friends have been telling me for months now.
    Fiat justitia, pereat mundus.

BTW, while we are on the subject, is it needed to point out the obvious: That it is just possible that if you are willing to judge the worth of someone simply by what you read on a website about them it might say a whole hell of a lot more about you than it says about the person you are judging?

I agree totally. I worked SR dayshift forever and did great... til April. We would have 50 girls on the floor, and maybe 20 guys. The girls all stand by the door and grab the guy as soon as he walks in. My current room mate is a cocktail waitress at SR on the night shift, and last week there was only one day she broke $100. It was so dead on day shift that all we did was sit around, talk and smoke cigarettes because there was NO ONE to talk to for at least 3 hours.

My other club I work at because they don't have any cute girls so I do a bit better there. But there has been nights where I have gone in, and not one guy came through the doors until midnight. Here in LV, I feel LUCKY to make $200. And I'm not a shitty hustler either. I've been doing this like 7 or 8 years.

In Austin, I walked in the door at 7pm and gasped my first night, because OMGZ THERE ARE PEOPLE!!!!! I never stress about making my house fee back, and I think the fact I worked in LV gives me an edge over the other girls because I am used to having to work so, so hard.

So yes, for me, there IS more money outside of LV. I think there is for every girl who has done some time here. To say flat out that NO, THEY JUST THINK THERE IS is awfully presumptuous to me.

I would rather eat a bag of live nightcrawlers than work here again.
