Default Soo.. Im gonn do it..but need advice!! Dancing??

Well, I decided that I am going to try and audition. I personally dont think i will have a problem getting an audition... I am just nervous about how to dance and what to dance to.

Ok.. so obviously I know how to dance at a club, but those are usually faster songs. If I dance to a slow song, I am not sure what moves to really do without being repetitive. No way am I touching the pole, with fear of looking like an idiot.

I am skinny white girl, but I can booty dance. I can move my hips really well and all that stuff, but when I dance to a slower song it seems just like a variation on a theme. THe same moves, but maybe a little different. What should I do at the audition? Even if I did one song, that is at least 3 minutes of same crap and I am not experienced enough to know any other moves.

Or... Is it okay to dance to a faster song.. I would think slower=more sensual. So basically for newbie, what is recommended? Also, is the type of music up to the dancer? I dance best to hip hop/ R&B... I like some alternative, but I find it hard for me to dance to.

One more thing.. ( Sorry for this being so long).. As for a stage name... I have no clue. Heres what I look like.... I have pretty much black hair, little past my shoulders, very blues eyes, but I am very tan. I am actually Irish..
Thanks Ladies! I love this board and it has helped me a ton!

Honestly, nothing looks worse than when girls who try out dance like they would at a club. It may look good when you have clothes on and there's a guy behind you that you're grinding against, but it looks terrible when you're onstage at a strip club. The main reason is because at a club, you're dancing on the beat. Don't do that when you're stripping. Just move a lot slower than you normally would. Girls have a tendency to dance really fast when they're nervous, and it doesn't look good. Just keep breathing and moving slowly. Don't do too much of the ass-shake. A lot of girls think they can do it because they'll do it at a club, but strippers do it really, really differently. Watch what the other strippers do, and you'll get the idea.

Dancing to way slow songs can be boring, and dancing to really fast songs when you're new can be a disaster. Just find something at a medium pace and dance slow. Don't worry about stuff being repetitive. It is repetitive. You're going to be doing the same moves over and over and over again. But guys won't really notice. If you're at a loss for what to do, just do something simple, like laying on the stage and arching your back. Always keep your toes pointed, your back arched, and your shoulders squared. If you do that and keep dancing slow, you'll do fine. And always, always, always watch what other girls do. That's the best way to learn, just by observing.

As for stage names, whatever you choose, make sure it will be easy to understand. I chose Lilith for my stage name, but I did not anticipate how many problems drunk guys would have with pronouncing it. Think about how it will sound when the DJ says it over the speakers. Don't pick anything too weird or complicated, or stereotypical. Guys can and WILL make jokes about "stripper" names, like Candy or Lexus. I would advise picking just a normal name that suits you.

Whether or not you pick the music is up to the club. I didn't get to pick the music for my audition, but if you do get to pick, make it something that you like and that you feel sexy while dancing to. Whether its a slow song or a fast song, keep it slow and sensual.

    I like the name Morgan

I have a long way to go before I'm good at dancing. I practiced a few moves ahead of time but went blank when I walked on stage, lol. I think being comfy in your shoes and outfit is half the battle. I found that the mirror is my friend when I practice. Good Luck!

Yes, being comfortable in your shoes is a big deal. I recommend just walking around your house for a few days wearing stripper shoes. If you can do that, you can wear shoes onstage and around the club with no problem.

^Vacuum the house wearing stripper shoes. If you can learn to do that without stumbling and falling, you can dance in them.

Walk around on a non-carpeted floor also, to get used to walking on a slick surface.

Firemaiden's dancing advice is great. One of the most important things to remember is to slow DOWN. Strippers don't dance anything like you do in a club. Guys want to see your body and club dancing is NOT good for that. Agreed 1000% on not doing too much booty shaking if you're used to doing it in a nightclub - civilian girls look ridiculous trying to booty shake in a strip club.

good luck with your audition. i dont think you need to worry about dancing very well. i dont know how it is every where but in nyc they were really understanding about me being new and stuff. i just moved in slow motion like the other girls i saw and they still hired me. the manager wasnt even watching the whole time. i think they just wanted to see what my body looked like.

When I first started dancing a lot of my stage show was mostly me posing, I know it sounds lame but really what you should be doing is displaying your body and yourself in the most flattering way. Booty dancing in a club, and booty dancing in a strip club two TOTALLY different things. Practice in front of mirror in a g-string and no top and you'll understand what everyone is saying. You should always dance slow and sexy, this will get the customers EVERY single time!!!

I think the dancing thing has been covered: slower is better to sum it up.

As for stage names: pick something that is believable. It creates rapport with customers faster.

ditto on what tinydancer said. leave the booty shaking for after you have the grace and seduction part down on stage.

Yeah. I just can't restrain my inner nerd. I always end up doing stupid stuff on stage and the manager has to come by and give me a to make me be good little posey stripper again.

Honey...you'll be sexy and rock it. Don't over think it. Look your best, smile, and once the music starts the inner sex kitten will come out in you!!!!!

Tip: go on you You Tube...and just put in exotic dancing...you'll see tons of things come up. Watch a few and see the basics.

My advice is to just go do it. I spent way too much researching before I did. Research turned to procrastination. Go to the club you want to work at , take a look around and figure out how things work, and just try it. You can always quit if you don't like dancing or move clubs if you think another place will fit you better.
