Travel I want to travel this year but have no companion!!

I'm taking another year off from school and I've decided to take some of the money that I've earned and take myself somewhere with it!

Here are a few options I'm considering (probably can't do them all though):

    OCTOBER/NOVEMBER:
Taking a puppetry internship in Vermont and dancing during off-times at one of the three clubs they have there.

    DECEMBER:
Road trip by car through southern USA, from East Coast to West Coast. Might dance in a few clubs here and there along the way.

    JANUARY:
Visit the Amazon rainforest. Want to visit Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and/or the rest of South America. I feel that if I'm going to take the flight down there, I might as well tour it all, right? But money is a big issue, and so is safety; How reasonable is it that I tour South America ON MY OWN, as a 22-year-old, 5'2'' 118 lbs. Chinese-American girl?

    FEBRUARY-APRIL:
Dance in Guam to save up money, vacation.

Have you been to any of these places? Any insight or opinions?

I don't have anyone to be my travel companion- none of my friends can afford the time or money to go with me. I'm tempted to try it anyway, but I do have a history of being compulsive, overly optimistic, and notoriously under-prepared.

Why? Not to be mean or anything, I'm just curious- What didn't you like about working in Guam?

I'm all for #s 2 and 3 in your list.

I have driven all over the US and it is something see. Cross-country trip highly recommended.

South America is cheaper than the the US, in general. Money shouldn't be a big issue unless you are a big spender and shopper. I have traveled a ton in a bunch of different parts of the world alone with no problems. You just watch where you're going and use good judgment.

i say go for it! it will totally worth it and it's cool that you decided that you don't want to wait for someone else to go. i'm part asian and i went to brazil by myself a few summers ago and nothing happened to me.

I'm in a very similar position. I have the money available to not work for 2-3 months and hang out somewhere ( as long as it's outside the U.S. and it's cheap..... ). I've always wanted to do this and I think there just comes a point where you have to say ..... " I'm just going. It's my life and I'm going ". No one in my life ( family, friends, or boyfriend ) understands the wanderlust thing and I don't even know where it came from myself ! I would recommend choosing an option and making it a reality NOW ! You can also do 1-2 week long trips to see how you do. Travel can be lonely. I've had lonely moments when I've been far from home and not really "in the zone" ( either absorbed in what I'm doing or hanging out with other travels having fun ) . When you are in that zone - it's easy. When you are sort of floating out there wondering what to do with your time, it's liberating and exciting , but it can also be scary! My big thing was that after about 2 weeks, I'd get into this thought process of "No one really knows me here. No one really cares about me here ". So ... instead of freaking out .....I just tell myself now " No one really knows me here, but I'm sure that 99 % of the people around me would help me if I really needed it " .
