you pretty much need to find a sex therapist to deal with issues that come up with being a stripper. I found one out of luck in the yellow pages.

but I find if you find someone who is a sex therapist your more likely to get wht you need accomplished.

I think in some ways it's more about the quality of the therapist, rather than being specialized in sex worker clients. I had a therapist who I'd had for 3 years and she was WONDERFUL (I'd recommend her by name but she only works in college health centers and so it wouldn't be much use). When I told her I was thinking of going into stripping she was great about it, didn't try to discourage me at all, she just talked me through the pro's and con's and then when I decided to do it, she had no problem with me discussing the details etc with her. And, she was nice enough to refer to it as my "bar job" in my records, just in case a future employer ever asked to see my records (some jobs I'm looking at require psych evals etc)

One resource to be aware of is https://www.ncsfreedom.org/resources...essionals.html

Not completely the same as the OP's question, but still useful--especially in a world where, yes, so many people, medically accredited and otherwise, are all too quick to associate "sex work" with some sort of dysfunction. And that's just the biggest bullshit in the world! Obviously.

Anyway: I've found a few great leads on this website. Unfortunately, I'm about to change cities, & thus therapists, but that's another story

Thanks for this thread and thanks for the link sexandgrammar. I'll have to check it out. I have pre-sexwork issues that I want counseling on and my biggest fear about investing in it is that they'll try to link my job as a cause or symptom. This is a good start.

No problem, Spinnerette! I'm in the same boat as you. And very little do I find as insulting as when someone ASSUMES I'm in sex work because of my mental health stuff, or vice versa. Like, no. Just no. So damn patronizing.

Good luck! Let me know what you find out!

    xx
