Default home pole = ouch ouch! (am I getting old??)

I haven't danced in well over a year (okay, a stint in Vegas here or there) but I missed the actual "dancing" aspect of it and now I've finally got the space and privacy for my own! I procured an x-pole (50mm chrome) and I while I am really satisfied with it (really sturdy) other than the fact it freaking HURTS!

Now, I know I'm a little out of practice, and I danced on both brass and brushed stainless steel ones in clubs and I remember being bruised, etc, no biggie, but when I try to do trick on this pole, my skin really sticks and PULLS. So much so that I can hardly do anything where I hold on with only my legs. Furthermore, moving from one position to another is practically out of the question. I remember this feeling a liiittle bit when I first learned, but not to this extent.

Has anyone else had this problem? Does it go away with practice? I feel like such a wimp, and I'm sure my skin's not gotten THAT flabby in a year's time. I think it might be the finish on the pole, which would suck because it is beautiful and cost me quite a bit (esp. since I'm not dancing now). I remember brass being squeaky (and dirty) and that brushed stainless hard to hold, but nothing like this sticking and ripping feeling. owwwww.

    Please advise!

I have an x-pole too... I don't notice a difference between it and the Lil Mynx poles at my dance classes... Haven't danced on a pole at a strip club, so no help there. I have noticed that when I'm wearing outfits that expose my midriff, inverts suddenly become way harder to get out of because I stick to the pole. It does get easier with practice though. You might be doing way harder moves than me though.

Could is be that you are pushing yourself more into more extensive tricks ( because you know no one in there to watch you fall your ass if you don't make the trick ) ? That's sort of how I am with my home pole and in a club I just wander around and do really easy tricks.

I notice a big, big difference between the stainless steel home poles and the brass poles in the club. Specifically, the latter are MUCH more comfortable and grippier. I can do tricks on brass poles that I can't even think about doing on steel poles. Steel poles, like you say, feel like they're ripping my skin off. Whereas with brass poles, I feel like I stick to them effortlessly. It's the difference between riding in a Cadillac and riding in a rickety Volkswagen bug.

I did eventually get used to the feeling of steel poles, and one benefit is that now when I go into the club, doing the tricks on the brass pole is cake compared to doing it on steel. So yeah, that skin-ripping sensation does subside.

Brass poles are much easier to work with. Can you buy one online?

Yes, you are just outta practice! The Chrome 50mm XPoles aren't that grippy compared to brass and are only a bit more than a stainless steel pole.

Sorry, you're gonna have to grin & bear it until your skin toughens up! Don't worry- it will..

Thanks gals! The pain is slowly receding! (Some good music and a shot of vodka helps recreate that old club experience too).

Its normal to feel like the pole is ripping your skin off. The pain will go away with practice! Chrome is actually between brass and stainless steel in the grippy department, with brass being the most grippy and steel being the least. Try holding yourself up in a pole sit with your thighs for as long as you can and then gradually increase how long you hold on.
