Default lets talk about age shall we? Feeling "old!"

Hey there ladies, was wondering if anyone can relate to my situation or give me any constructive feedback...

Lately I feel like I should be retired, that I'm too old to still be dancing. I'm only 26 will be 27 in January but In a sea of 18 y/o dancers its discouraging. I realize that I'm not "old" but as soon as I walk into the club I feel like I age a decade! I know that there are plently of dancers in their 30's and even 40's that still dance and make money but honestly it's getting to me more mentally than anything.

Am I "old" in the dancer world?

God, no, you are not old! I didn't even start dancing until I was 28. It's weird to me that your club is flooded with 18 year olds. In mine, I feel like I'm the median age--there are always 30-40ish dancers every place I've worked.

I really think stripping is one of those things that you only get better at with age, wisdom, and a ripe, womanly figure.

I'll admit that the "seasoned" strippers still amaze me (I'm 21, so its not like I'm that young >.>).
As a 20 year old dancer, I didn't know what the hell I was doing or how to hustle. Strippers that have been dancing for a while just that this presence - they really know what they are doing and how things work and have a sex appeal that is all their own.

Can you imagine how lame a club would be if it was just 18 year-olds shaking their butts and jumping around all night?

My club always had a mix of dancers most in their 20's but many in their 30's and a few 40's. I took a break and when I came back and I was definately the oldest one in the club - im turning 32 now, but all the other girls were young. I was told the club fired all the old, overweight ppl etc - first time ive ever see a club improve quality of girls. Anyway it was kind of depressing realising that im getting older and losing my looks, and also knowing that there will be a time when i cant fall back on this, it just came so fast.

Kat...Exactly how I'm feeling. It's hard enough to age gracefully in todays society let alone in "stripper world" when your looks and youth are your livelyhood.

I've known dancers in their 50's that were hot and still had a ton of regs who adored them.

i feel like that sometimes. I don't work nights much anymore because of all the youngsters. But until customers start turning me down then the hell with it, i'm gonna keep at it. If they don't care about my age, then why should i?

Hell no! I also didn't start dancing until I was 28 and I'm now ten months away from 30 and I hold my own with girls over a decade younger than me with no problems. In fact I think I have a leg up on the younger girls because I have more to offer to a conversation than many of them. Most guys think I'm 21-26 and they loooove it when they find out how old I really am.

As long as you are doing a very good job of taking care of your body through diet and exercise age really should not be a concern for you for a very long time, even if you are opposed to plastic surgery.

Age really is just a number. I work with 19 year olds who look thirty because they party too much and don't take care of themselves and I work with thirty to forty somethings who blow the 19 year olds out of the water because they go to the gym all the time, eat clean, and stayed out of the sun.

the are some times when feel old, especially when im surrounded by the 18-20 year old girls. but most of them have no conversation skills or are fun to be around for the customers and make hardly any money so that makes me feel better. i tend to forget how old i am a lot of times so in a way i feel like im in the same peer group as the really young girls, just with more life experience that keeps me from making stupid choices. it's only when im actually reminded of my age that i start feeling like shit.

Old??You're not even in your prime yet, girl! You just need to get a more positive outlook. It IS harder to do it in this economy, but just try to do it and it will get better! In my experience, the best money makers are in their mid-late 30's and early 40's.But remember that you will LOOK as old as you FEEL.

    Good luck!

yeah - you're only as old as your spine is the yogic saying my spine is super young being a yoga teacher but after 10 years in the industry i feel super old at 28! all a state if mind like most things and i'm just really over it.

but i do see the older dancers clean up. they have less hang ups and can deal with customers more professionally... however i sure do wish i had that newbie 18 year old enthusiasm to get naked and hear nice things said about me at times! it just bores me now.

young on the inside is where it's at! xx

I'm so glad this is getting brought up. I went to a new club tonight and had the current top house girl talked down to me because she THOUGHT she knew better. She was even sarcastic when I nicely corrected her... and in my head I was thinking that she's only 20 and given at least 8 more years maybe she'll know better.

Being older can certainly have it's advantages in this industry... it takes awhile to figure out the "game".

Most of the top money girls in my club are over 30. A couple are in their late 30's. Making money is so much more about personality and sex appeal than just pure looks. I'm so glad I didn't start dancing until I was 25, any younger and I probably couldn't have handled the atmosphere without going a little looney.

At 28 years old I only see myself getting better and better!

26 isnt old at all. 18 yr olds cant possibly give the same experience as a dancer in her 20's-30's. Not saying the 18 yr olds arent hot and money makers, but their is a need for the range in age.

I started at 18. Im peaking now at 28...29 in 1 month! Im trying to dance for as long as i can. late 30's. VERY late, lol.

26 is not old. Many guys prefer women in their 20s and above. I have had men ask me if I was 18 (I'm 25) with this terrified look on their faces that went away the minute I told them my real age. You can't compare yourself to other girls in the club it will just make you insecure.

I just turned 27. I am very not ok with it. So I feel you on that level.

However, my avid skincare routine and nice genetics often have me pegged for 22.

Wow this thread has been very helpful! I'm glad that I'm not alone in my feelings but it's also great to hear such positive input. I don't think I LOOK old and I don't feel old, I think it's the enviroment that had me feeling a little down. But some very valid points! I do make more money than most of the younger girls and certainly more now as a seasoned dancer than when I was a newb.
And I do take very good care of myself but maybe this will give me a push to put in EXTRA effort!

It could just be burnout and not that you are "too old". Dealing with drama constantly (especially from 18 y.o.s) can wear a person down after a while. Try taking a few days away from work or maybe switching clubs and see if you don't feel a little better.

I'm 30. I feel like when I tell customers my age their interest goes UP not down. the young guys think it's "novel". You know, the "older woman" (it pains me to write that. really it does). And plenty of the older guys like it because they can relate better to you than some 19 year old. In fact, I have had customers tell me on multiple occasions that they were "relieved" when they found out how old I actually was because they thought I "looked too young for them".

All that being said, I understand where you're coming from. I have the fortune of working with a few girls older than myself and a couple around the same age. So, I don't feel as "alone" as I did at previous clubs I worked at.. where the average age was something like 20. There are days though, when I'm the oldest girl there, and if I'm already in a crappy mood self-esteem wise, it can start to get to me.

I'm 28 and have to admit I lie sometimes. It's only If I'm getting the vibe that they "want" me to be 24...if that makes any sense. I didn't have any shape till I was 26. I had boobs, but I was soooo skinny. I just started really getting the young guys to show any interest about 2 years ago.

I do feel old somtimes though, but it's more about my personal life and aging than stripping. I'm not married or have any kids yet so I'd like to accomplish that.

Hey at least you don't have a hip problem like I do. It's a constant joke with everyone about me and my damn hip. That's okay though, the old chick with the hip problem still sold 3 rooms to 2 18 year olds the night she injured it so take that young people lol.

Young girls and/or irresponsible girls drive me a little more crazy now. I just try to hang out with a few of us "older" girls that have some common sense and stay out of the dressing room. I even just tell the young girls that are getting on my nerves, "honey I'm old, I don't know what your talking about. I'm sorry." It's a great excuse to get away from someone drunk or coked up. If I'm in a good mood I even point to my one wrinkle and say "see? I've even got a wrinkle!".

Some of the music drives me a little crazy too and I have to laugh at myself about this. I'm not sure if it's because I'm old or I genuinely get tired of being called a "bitch" and "ho" all night by some dude via song.

I think most men 45 and up prefer the company of a hot woman in her 30s or even 40s than a girl who is hot but also his daughters age.

And BTW, I'm 20 and I have only had 2 really good "grandpa" custies. I think most of the "grandpa" types feel more at ease with the older dancers. I'm pretty sure I'm a pedo magnet anyways

Agreed, I have had customers turn me down (I'm 23 but since everyone lies about their age and drinks too much people think i look eighteen) and refuse to tell me why only to tell another girl that I look too young. Being young is not an asset when you are in a sexual industry. Only a sicko wants to be turned on by a girl who looks underage and believe it or not they are not very common. People who think late 20s is old confuse me because in my eyes they are still babies.
