    Default Fake tan application

I usually exfoiliate before and then moisturise after but I find the fake tan kind of sinks into my pores and sometimes a little patchy..its not the fake tan it happens with all I have used I just wondered what am I doing wrong?

What brand are you using? Also, in my case, if I exfoliate w/something that's too moisturizing, it seems to go wrong. I'm not sure, but I don't think you are supposed to moisturize after applying the fake tan? I get frustrated as well, they always seem to streak. I decided I'm going to try a tinted fake tanner, so I can actually see how it goes on. The one I've been looking at is by Orgins, around $18.00. It got some good ratings. Also, I've only used samples of, but I liked Clarins brand, I think they have a tinted one, but it's only for the face. There's a website called iamtan.com, I believe they talk about fake tanning too. Good luck!

are you moisturizing immediately after the tan? that would be part of the problem, i think less dha would be absorbed by the skin. you want to moistorize around the dry areas before the tan (elbows, knees etc).

You want to moisturize to maintain the tan, but not immediately after application. Wait until you wash the tanner off, then moisturize.

Also, how long are you leaving the tanner on? You should leave it on at least 3 hrs, though leaving it overnight or something is preferable.

The brand might also suck. If you dont like the brand, i recommend sunlabs. There are a few threads on it if you do a search.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I mean I moistuise the day after and I leave it on all night if I have the time to. Its xen its a really good brand its got lots of good reviews.. I think perhaps the problem is because its meant to be for body but I use it on my face aswell... does that make a difference?

No, I don't mean a tinted moisturizer. Or a product that gives color & washes off. I mean a self tanner with color in it, so when it goes on you can see if it's rubbed in properly, etc. The actual color develops later, as a regular self tanner does. I have to wait until later this week, but I think I'm going to try the Origins product, & I'll post about it.

I think Im like the best fake tan applicator that I know lol. I have tried so many products and so many ways. My suggestion is to exfoliate the day BEFORE you plan on fake bake. Just take a normal shower before you apply, wait until you are completely dry about 10-15 mins out of the shower. Because sometimes you are misty and it messes up your tan. I like Jergens, I used the face one, lotion and the three day one. I usually use the lotion every other day and then the three day one if I have a special event or something I wanna make sure I look tan.
The key is to rub it in really fast, and well. make sure you hit every spot! EXCEPT dont do your ankels or near your toes or nuckels. I also avoid the knee caps and elbows, I know it may sound weird but it really looks the best. It will blend. Wait about 10 mins before you put clothes on. I would wait a full day before you sweat alot of shower. dont exfoliate for a few days and keep applying. Also 10 mins of sun makes it look great, and gets vitamen K!

    Whoooh good luck!

I found if you exfoliate the day of it makes your tan patchy sometimes.. if you wait a day your skin heals up the parts that really didnt need exfoliating- so your skin is even all over =)

Also, use a clear shower gel. Like this: http://www.overstockdrugstore.com/pr...e=2&cvsfp=2367

Any shower gel that is see through, NOT a creamy or opaque shower gel or bar soap! This helps better balance your pH of your skin. I was always told to do this before I airbrush tan.

^^^^ I don't know, I was always told to use something like Suave or Dial, it can be a color, as long as it is see through.

Hey I do spray tanning here are some of the things I tell my clients before they come in for a tan...the same applies to regular fake tanning.

Thing to do before your fake tan session!
-Before your fake tan session you should exfoliate the day prior with a water based exfoliate. Try to avoid any scrubs that are overly scented (these tend to be oil based) You should also shave or wax before your session as this tends to take off a layer of skin.

-After your shower moisturize, extending more lotion to the following areas: hands, feet, elbows, and knees. These are drier areas on the body and require a little more lotion. The lotion you use should be one that has little to no perfume, and contains no mineral oil or petroleum.

-The day of your fake tan session take another shower to rinse off your lotion.

-Avoid applying the following items before you apply fake tan:
    *Deodorant
    *Makeup
    *Lotion
    *Perfume

-Let the fake tan on your skin dry COMPLETELY before putting on clothes, if you must put on clothing let it be loose and so that you do not create lines on your body. Also AVOID at all cost sweating, or water for at least 6-8 hours as the DHA (agent that causes the tan) is processing on your skin.

Things to do after your fake tan session!
-Avoid touching your skin, I know when people get tan they want to keep touching themselves...don't do this, trust me it will only lead to tan palms...not a good look lol

**Doing these simple things in the beginning will help ensure you have amazing results!!**

Okay so its been 6-8 hours and you are now about to take your first shower! Yay lol

-Wash with a mild, moisturizing cleanser (such as a body gel) Avoid any perfumed washes or bar soap. If you must use a perfumed wash use one infused with lotion. Also try not to scrub at your skin when you wash as this will rub away color.

-When you are drying your skin after a shower do not use terry cloth towels as this is a mild form of exfoliation. Pat your skin dry, do not rub.

-Apply a moisturizer with SPF in the mornings, and a tan extending lotion at night. So you will need to moisturize TWICE daily.

-Moisturizing twice daily, and gentle exfoliate will help in a natural fade of your tan. **EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!**

-The following products have been shown to greatly reduce the number of days your tan lasts.
    *Band aids
    *Face masks
    *Biore pore strips
    *Bar soaps
    *Anti aging or Acne medications
    *Hair removal creams and shaving
    *Washing with astringents (toner’s)
*Using any products with perfume directly on skin
*Using any products with petroleum, mineral oil, really any kind of oil!!! Baby oil BIG NO-NO!!!

    -Avoid excessively hot showers.

    -Avoid chlorine.

-If you notice uneven fading of your tan, or premature fading most spray tan in a can will work. However I highly recommend Clarin’s “Intense Bronze Self Tanning Tint” for $32 or Model Co. “Airbrush sun” for $32 both of which can be purchased at Sephora.

i use loreal sublime bronze gel. wash my hands afterwards and i dont put it on knees and ankles. but after its dry i put regular lotion on my hands and knees and ankles and that blends it so i dont have lines. im lazy about self tanner stuff so this is easy and works good.

I use the spray cans of fake tan as soon as I get dried from out of the shower. Then I immediately pat the excess off and apply body oil all over the top of that. I never seem to have a problem. I get the spray cans at Sally's for about $10 and get 3 applications per can. even the black girls at work have been trying it to even out their skin tone. Of course I do it every day right before I work so I stay pretty dark and I'm naturally uber pale. It really only adds about 10 minutes to my routine.

This was very useful information, thank you! I actually went and bought the Clarins Intense Bronze Self Tanning Tint today based on your recommendation, as well as all the unbelievably awesome reviews I found on other sites! They say this stuff will make you dark brown, not orange at ALL! Also, I heard it's dark enough to cover up Vitiligo, Wow! So, I'm excited to try it out. I have a question though, what's the deal with the Model Co Bronze Airbrush in a Can? I've read mixed reviews about it, and it's discontinued at the Sephora by my house, so I would have to order it online. I read that it comes out really glittery, which I honestly don't mind, but will it be dark enough for me? Is it super dark or more medium-ish? Right now I just even out my spray tans with the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Deep Glow (the darkest shade), so would I like the Model Co one better? Also, have you tried the Model Co skin luminizer?

And, have you tried this stuff: http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...ingsReviewsTab

I need something to blend my tan in between Versa Spa sessions, I'm already naturally pretty olive/dark, but I like to be more bronze and dark brown. So, between the Sevin Nyne and Model Co, or just using the Clarins all over my body?

"I read that it comes out really glittery, which I honestly don't mind, but will it be dark enough for me? Is it super dark or more medium-ish?"

-I've never had it come out glittery on me, perhaps they are talking about the luminizer, bc I think the cans use to look a like.
I haven't used Model Co. in a while because now I use this one brand that I can purchase from the ppl who make my spray tan solution.

-The Model Co. isn't super dark, but if you apply layers its great..I liked it because there was no orange tint to it, and like I said its one of those kinds where you can build the color with out it turning orange. Some of those sprays leave you orange because if you apply to much DHA to your skin that's the out come

    -I say its mediumish...

"Right now I just even out my spray tans with the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Deep Glow (the darkest shade), so would I like the Model Co one better? Also, have you tried the Model Co skin luminizer?"

-I personally never liked Sally Hansen airbrush legs, it has a weird smell and to me makes everyone look like they are a mannequin..its too much of a matte finish you know? If you like it by all means continue to use it but IMO its no good...in the club no biggie coz of the lighting but IRL you look crazy lol :p

-I have tried the luminizer, all it does is leave you shimmery...if your looking for an all over high light/shimmer purchase it its fun to play with to high light your calves and cleavage...However apply it a couple hours in advance and let it try thoroughly on your skin so you don't have major rub off

"And, have you tried this stuff: http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...ingsReviewsTab"

-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO do not use Sevin, its BAD!!! Orange, as orange can be!!!

"I need something to blend my tan in between Versa Spa sessions, I'm already naturally pretty olive/dark, but I like to be more bronze and dark brown. So, between the Sevin Nyne and Model Co, or just using the Clarins all over my body?"

-Go to this website and order the Tahitian tan mist in the can its about $24 for a can that can give you at least 5-6 full body sprays and trust me it is totally worth it! As a spray tan tech this is the only thing I use outside of Clarin's...and after discovering this, I only use Clarin's on my face and neck because it fades better on those areas because I wash my face a lot and the spray tends to clog my pores on my face. If you do purchase the spray make sure to avoid heavily misting your hands because this shit is DARK!! lol do all of the things listed below that I advise for spray tanning sessions and you will have a kick as tan, you might even stop with the spray tanning sessions coz this stuff works so damn good! lol OH and also make sure to apply it in small circular motion about 6 inches from your body.

    Hope all this helps!

Tiny, that is a kickass site! The products all look great, have you tried any of the others? I'm thinking of that coffee scrub, & pretty much everything else, lol!
I wish they had a 'multi pack' of products, I see they do have one 3 pack of the tanner, extender, & shimmer.

Yep I've tried EVERYTHING I personally really like the scrub (it has like a mango/citrus scent), the Tahitian tan mist (smells like coconuts), and the tan extender in the lotion form is GREAT (mild scent)...

I'm telling you once you try the Tanning mist your going to want to buy like a case of it lol I use it ALL the time!

Any advice on keeping a fake tan even when working out and sweating multiple times a week? Every time I go to the gym, my tan sweats off in certain areas. I want to be able to have a good tan and work out. Any tips?

If your using a semi permanent tan, like a Sally Hansen there is no tips...however if your actually going spray tanning, or using higher quality sunless tanning, giving your tan the full 6-8 hours to develop with no contact with water/sweat should do the trick. Also if your patting yourself dry after working out with a towel do not rub, its a mild form of exfoliation...also some products like deodorant contain high amounts of alcohol so using just enough and not over doing it will help as well. OH AND do not wear tight clothing when working out this only further traps sweat and such that eats away the tan...and if your showering stay away from super hot water that'll kill the tan as well.

Read what I posted below on what to do before and after your tan, doing those simple steps will give you the maximum results your seeking.

Sevin nyne and model co are orange as hell! The bronzer in model co is not nice, made me look like a damn tangerine.... my best results have been with jergens lotion or aviva airbrush solution (10% dha and bronzer, so amazing!!!!) my airbrushing lasts best if I DON'T put lotion on, otherwise it gets patchy... I also use queen helene minty exfoliator shit, its amazing.

Seriously tho..... sevin nyne? Hello orange! Model co is no better; Im not sure how the regular spray is but the bronzer only spray makes me feel like Im a damn carrot. I showed it to my airbrusher and he damn near pissed his pants over how orange it was.... not good.

Id also like to suggest kosher salt (before shaving) as an exfoliator. It also has spiritually cleansing properties. in addition..... honey and sugar (in a paste) can be very nice..... there are so many nice, cheap options out there now!
