When I began feeling back and even hip pain, I learned it was because of those damn platforms. Things began to improve once I stopped wearing them and things got even better when I worked at a club that had a chiropractor on the premises. Its surprising that some clubs are so clueless when it comes to shoes for the entertainers. When platforms became fashionable in the 90s, it was announced that highschool girls were having back problems all because of those platforms. Now some clubs have the audacity to make platforms manditory when its a known fact that customers don't really care about shoes. I've talked with a number of customers who don't find the platforms to be the least bit appealing and some customers think barefeet (provided they're clean of course) are much sexier than heels. My goodness, you're more likely to make decent money when you're feeling comfortable rather than walking around work in pain.

ITA about men not caring about our shoes (unless they have a shoe fetish). What kind of shoes do you wear?

If things get too bad for your knees or hips go to the doctor. I have to have steroids sometimes. It sucks, but it really helps. Hurts worse the day after the shot, but relives the initial pain for quite awhile. I told my doctor that if I were a horse they would have put me down by now.

The pole doesn't leave me with bruises but the floor work does, on my knees and some on my legs. Also I think I sprained a muscle in my thigh from trying to do a split.

While I also had knee issues prior to dancing, I feel that a lot of my pain comes from the floor work (and even lap dancing) as well. I am not super acrobatic and purposely try to avoid tricks that involve stress on my knees, yet my knees sometimes start to stiffen up so for me I feel like the bruising comes from floor work, but the impact on them comes from VIPs. As for back/hip pain, I see a chiropractor once a month and it has helped me tremendously.

Did you used to do other sports before you danced? Be careful with those problem areas, espescially knees! Try taking off your shoes during lapdances for a couple of shifts and see if it reduces the pain at all. I worry about my knees too...they are already so fucked from figure skating when I was younger, and I know dancing won't help that and I noticed increase in knee and back pain after I had been dancing about 6 months...I used to stand a lot at work, talking to customers, walking around, whatever. Now I sit my ass down unless I'm moving from customer to customer and I lose the shoes during longer dance strings, and that really helped. My back pain was more from having a terrible desk chair and from sitting on my bed with my laptop, and I noticed that when I took a break from dancing for a few months...so a trip to the doctor would definitely be good so you can figure out how much/what pain can be attributed to the shoes/pole, and what is more likely being caused by something else.

Also, try to drink more water, it's good for your body in general.

The inner leg of my lead thigh is calloused and now has stretch marks. People may think im completely making this shit up, but they arent on my other inner thigh because i dont use that leg for pole tricks (im one sided, terrible habit--i know)! And....these patches of callous and stretch marks are only in the areas that come in contact with the pole all the time

I quit because I always ended up with broken capillaries on my face from staying upside down too long.
