So, I've decided it's time to do some traveling. Originally I was planning to go backpacking around Italy, france, and germany. For that plan, I would be leaving in early March, and would have about $5000. However, I haven't found anyone to go with, so I'd have to go it alone. I've made plans with friends to backpack around Europe so many times over the years, and none of them have ever been able to do it. So, I certainly don't want to put travel off even more just because I'm waiting around for a travel buddy. But I am a little nervous about being a petite woman travelling alone for the first time.
Last night a close friend of mine mentioned he'd like to go back to Chile, where his family is from. I asked if he'd like to go with me and he was really excited about the idea. It's a place I've wanted to visit for awhile, and it would be nice to not have to travel alone. The only downside is money is really tight for him, so I'd probably have to chip in for his airfare. But, he has family all over the country who he says would be happy to have us, so that would save on travel costs alot. Plus, it's a lot cheaper there than in western Europe. He wants to go for december/january. that's a peak season for travel to Chile, but another plus is I would get away from the dreary portland winter for awhile (which I have a really hard time getting through) and it would be nice to travel sooner than later.
So, I'm pretty torn at this point. I'm hoping you guys can share some ideas/opinions that might help me make a decision. what would you do in my position?
