    Default Keylogger removal?

I need a good keylogger removal program. Please, it's very important! Also anyone know how to get rid of that shitty red circle with the white X at the bottom of my screen that tells me windows has detected a spyware infection. It says "Your computer is infected." I've already removed windows defender, and it it no longer listed in my Add/Remove programs thing, but this popup won't go away. (I keep removing Windows antispywear 2010 or whatever the hell it's called but this annoying balloon won't go away and keeps downloading the same damn program.

I run AVG and Windows Washer btw.

Thank you so much guys! I'm such a tech-tard!

Have you tried malwarebytes? That's a good program that usually can take care of it....

I love having a Mac for this reason, though it probably won't be long before we'll need the anti-spyware stuff too.

What you have is what I had on my last PC, it's something that gets in your registry and reinstalls itself. If you don't get rid of it, it will keep telling you your computer is infected and you have to buy a 'spyware removal program' to get rid of it. The only thing the program is good for is removing the spyware THEY installed on your computer!

Yep, just like when Vinnie and Sal come by to pick up their 'protection money', or they'll kneecap you or maybe blow up your bar.

There are ways to get rid of it, but it can be tough. I forget how I finally got rid of mine, and I'm not entirely sure I did because the PC won't turn off anymore, I have to yank the battery to do that. It's so old and beat up I don't care anymore, but I'd be plenty pissed if it was new.

And what about the poor old ladies out there who finally take the plunge and buy a computer so their grandchildren can play? You think they know how to fix this kind of shit? Not a chance...

In fact I started a thread somewhere saying I'd like to meet the guys who design these programs, I would seriously beat them bloody and feed them my old PC.

I'm not kidding. You broke my computer, you can fucking eat my computer, asshole...

    Go to:

    www.filehippo.com

    1) Go to the Antivirus section and download AVG. It's free and its good.
    2) Go to the anti-malware section and download A Squared Free.Again it's free and good.
    3) Go to the Cleaning and Tweaking section and download CCleaner. (Yu've guessed it - free and good.

    A) Install and run AVG
    B) Install and run A Squared
    C) Install and run CCleaner

That may clean things up - but its going to take you the whole of an evening.

(Before you start running the antivirus stuff, make sure you've got a back up of your data files - if the files are infected the antivirus software will delete them).

    Phil.

PS - that assumes you've not already got antivirus software on your computer.

Your registry is part of your comuter that holds a lot of the settings for the programs on your computer. If you want to see it, go to the Start menu and click on the 'Run'. option. In the dialogue box that comes up, type Regedit and then click OK.

This will show you the registry - but playing about in it is something for experts only.

CCleaner (see my earlier post) has an option to take unused entries out of the registry - might be worth a try.

Oh yeah, thanks but no thanks on cleaning up my registry myself! I know better...

But hey that's some great advice. Eventually I will be trying another PC for games (not many games for Macs), and I will need that stuff!

I'm having the same problems with a program telling me my computer is infected, but that same program doesn't appear on my list of installed programs. I can't help you with that one, but I have experience with installing and using keyloggers, so I can probably help you track it down.

You didn't give that many specific details, so I'll have to make a few assumptions. I'm guessing you suspect someone put a keylogger on your computer so they could attain passwords or private information, correct? More than likely a jealous boyfriend or an annoying friend. Anyway, keyloggers are hidden quite well, and a common FREE brand is KGB. Unless this person really wants some serious information and bought a keylogger, I'm willing to bet they used a brand like KGB or REFOG which is available for download off of various links that can be found with a quick Google search.

First off, even with free programs that are basic like KGB, the person downloading the program can still hide it from the desktop, start menu, task manager, and program files folder. (Free programs typically won't take screen shots for you). However, one major fluke that KGB has is that if you restart a computer the icon for KGB will appear next to the clock in the lower right hand corner. If you click on it you can verify that there is a keylogger, but will need a master password to access the information stored and delete the program. If you got this far I would recommend confronting the suspect(s) with this evidence.

If this approach doesn't work for you, there is another way to confirm that the keylogger exists, but you will still need a master password. If you are a good guesser, and type in the proper keystroke that calls the keylogger out of stealth mode, you will be able to confirm that there is a keylogger as well. The chances of you guessing correctly are slim, because a key stroke can be as simple as "567" or as complicated as "msadfalkubootyshakinstripperlollll".

Another idea, that I haven't tested myself but is rumored to work, is using an anti-keylogger program that specifically seeks out keyloggers. A free anti-keylogger program with this feature is called ThreatFire (formally CyberHawk), and can be downloaded here: http://www.threatfire.com/ The benefit of this specific program is that this one can seek out custom made keyloggers, in case your assailant is computer savvy.

Lastly, all computers have a "run" window. If you look up a list of several keyloggers on the internet and research their access codes then you might be able to pull it up that way as well.

    I hope that helps!

P.S. If you still haven't figured it out, or don't understand exactly how to try these steps, you can private message me and I'll send back a more detailed explanation.

What you have is called "Scare Ware" pretty much what that is, is a faux anti-spy ware that embeds itself into your computer and trust when I tell you NO matter how much you delete it it will not go away.

    Download Malwares,

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/

    *Get the free version*

Then do a quick scan and remove whatever it tells you is on your computer...it can take a little bit for it to scan and what not but it'll get whatever is infecting your computer...

The best free program that will get rid of this without needing to know much is superantispyware.

Thank you guys for all the advice! I've ran a few programs and spoke with my cuz and a friend who are both techies and I think I have it off here now. I really think it was just a stupid thing I picked up watching porn tbh, at least that is what the techie I trust most thinks.

I think she means her friend is going to install a copy of Microsoft Windows Virtual PC on her computer.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Virtual_PC

It's free, so PrincessJas won't have to buy anything.

Whether running a virtual PC will protect you from downloading a keylogger is another matter.

Pretty sure her friend was talking about having to buy a copy of Windows to install on the VPC...

She could always have him install Ubuntu or something free... although I am not sure what MS VPC supports. I am firmly in the VMWare camp.

And I was referring to the fact that there are definitely ways to obtain Windows without paying....

To further clarify, I am talking about downloading pirated software. In a farcical manner, of course...
