Default Banker by day, Dancer by night...

I work at a bank as an assistant branch manager. I've danced about a handful of times about 5 years ago and being a banker is soooo far from my personality. In my past I was always in sales and also worked as a makeup artist for local films, commercials, etc. I'm 33 so this is an odd time in my life to think of making such a leap I suppose...

Anyhow, I am considering quitting my job and dancing part time and bartending the other part. Working at a bank (which I've done for 2 years) is nothing but stress (especially these days) and I am considering going for my masters in communications so I would need the flexibility anyways.

I guess I am just looking for some reassurance/support or thoughts. Has anyone else made a similar decision (moving from the corporate world to the club), or thinking of doing so? Especially in their 30's??

Administrative assistant by week, stripper by weekend, lol. I am in kind of the same situation. It has crossed my minded to quite my normal job and dance more so I would have time to go back to school. I will no more in the next coming months. They only thing that has stopped me is taking the leap and I like what I do just fine now. But tomorrow I may want more, I say find out what you want more. Going back to school would be a good thing if you have the time and comitment

I don't know if it's quite the same but I worked in a major private law office before I quit and became a full time dancer so I could go back to school during the day. I don't regret it at all. It feels so much better to be going to school like a normal person than having to work a full 8hr shift and then run to school and be making literally less than half of what I make now.

And Im damn near close to 30. A'int nothin' wrong with that, work it girl!
Sorry I missed church. I was too busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian.

It's just hard because the things I *truly* enjoy (dancing, acting, bartending, writing, doing makeup) are so not in need of the struggle I went through to get my bachelor's degree. I always knew I HATED school and that it ultimately would do nothing for me. But I just deep down felt I needed to graduate. Now that I am in debt from student loans, and have a stable "normal" job, I am kicking myself for wanting to do things I love and knew I wanted to do all along.

UGH why am I always at odds with myself.

I have a masters degree and quit a corporate job to dance full time travel and live my life.

I settled down too early, It wasn't appropriate for me to personally get stuck in that lifestyle career . I'm near 30.

I was an elementary school teacher by day, dancer by night.

It lasted til the end of the school year and then I dove in "full" time dancing.

Wow, I am right there with you on this one. My whole life I have always known I wanted to work in clubs, model, etc...I'm very much a night person & hate the "normal day job" thing. But like you, I am struggling to finish a Bachelors degree that I'm not even planning on using, but feel I need to finish since I only have one year left.

You are not alone girl, I think you should follow your heart with what you want to do. Don't let your age hold you back from pursuing what you want to do....Sounds like you are a confident girl & your avatar is hot, so I think you will do great

    Good luck girlie!

I have my bachelors degree in pharmaceutical marketing and I've worked in a pharmaceutical company last year right out of college for a year until I got laid off This May. Now I dance parttime and still make 5 times more than I did in that boring cubicle job and I've told myself I never want to be a slave to the corporate environment ever again..... I don't know what I want to do with my life anymore, I know I can't dance forever, so I'm confused. Oh ya while I was still working in that office, I started to dance on the weekends at the beginning of this year but it was very hard on me working more than 50 hours and all. Now all I do is dance 3 nights a week and I'm more refreshed mentally and physically than ever.
Anyone who knows that I'm dancing (cept for my hubby) thinks I should quit and get a real job.
