yes it is supposed to cleanse the liver. I drink water with lemon all day ice cold, and I like hot water with lemon slice or bottled lemon juice on cold days. I find it helps me not look and feel bloated. Plus I am guessing the extra vitamin c from the lemons help keep me from getting sick, can't remember the last time i even had a cold.![]()

Lemons are great! They cleanse the body, provide us with a wealth of vitamins, minerals, and improves acid/alkali pH balance (restoring your immune system's ability to function.) Be sure to juice them right before use, as the beneficial stuff deteriorates once exposed to air/light.

I drink this pretty much all day instead of drinking water.. I don`t use real lemons though.. I use that lemon juice made out of real lemons.. I`m too lazy to cut up lemons..
I had no idea it was like a detox drink. So glad that I read this post!!
Maybe this is why I haven`t gotten sick like everyone else around me is at work..
Hi Ladies,
I've been drinking lemon water for a few months now. I read an article on healthy living and weight loss where they explained its benefits. I've been drinking it ever since. Below is part of the article. Read and enjoy!
"Benefits of Lemon Water" by Debbie DeSpirt
Lemon water helps unblock stagnant and clogged chi in the body. Chi needs to flow effortlessly and harmoniously if the body is to be in a healthy state. Lemon water is a good morning drink to start the process of removing impure chi in the body.

Lemon Water Recipe
1/2 a lemon (organic is best)
1 cup of warm water (spring or distilled water)
Squeeze 1/2 a lemon into a cup of water.
The lemon water should make your lips pucker. You will get the most benefits if you can taste the lemon.
you guys rock! I love lemons in water.. Wonder if it's okay to mix honey in it. I use that whenever I am feeling poor or have a sore throat. No wonder it works so well.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..
If you girls like lemon water, you all should try the Master Cleanse Lemonade "potion." It includes:
*2 tablespoons lemon juice (not from concentrate- not nearly as many nutrients).
*2 tablespoons grade B maple syrup, the 100% kind, not Mrs. Butterworths, etc.
*1/10 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
*10 ounces of filtered water
This is will flush your system, eliminate bloating, detox your liver, and even help lose pounds.
Google it for more info! Trust me, it's sooooo helpful.

I have seen numerous health experts recommend drinking lemon water first thing in the morning. I have also read articles from other experts who recommend drinking it through out the day. I guess it depends on your own preference.
I personally drink green tea first thing in the morning or with my breakfast. I drink the lemon water with my other meals and through out the rest of the day.

I've been lurking here a while but haven't posted, but this topic is a pet peeve of mine so I have to jump in.
Nothing you eat or drink is going to "cleanse your liver" or "flush out toxins" or "cleans your colon" or anything like that. A healthy liver, kidneys, etc. are perfectly capable of doing that on their own -- that's what they're for. If you have a toxin buildup in your system to the point that you need help to get rid of it, you need immediate medical attention, not lemonade. These potions have been around for decades, but the stated purpose/effect changes with the fads and buzzwords of the day. Drinking lemon water will hydrate you and give you some vitamin C, and that's good. Adding maple syrup will give you some calories and glucose. Beyond that ...
The water itself is the best boost to your system there is -- THAT is what's doing any flushing going on, not the lemon or any other concoction. The only substance with any science behind it that MIGHT help with liver function is milk thistle.
Ladies, I drink dandelion root tea with cranberry juice (REAL cran juice, not the cocktail, it's bitter as Hell), and fresh squeezed organic lemon juice, all combined in distilled water. This will help you shed those water weight pounds, and the dandelion tea (like milk thistle) promotes healthy liver function aka detox.

Someone told me that it's best to drink hot water with lemon before you go to bed.

JD, I'm definitely going to have to try that. Got some water weight to shed. As far as the lemon and water, I love that anyways. I haven't noticed a correlation between that and it being detoxifying but now I'll definitely pay more attention.
Remember to rinse with plain water to protect your enamel!

I do this whenever I'm doing any sort of cleanse. It's good.
i hear that this is good (lemon and water) although i also know about fasting and a bad way to break a fast is by eating something acidic. Sleeping you body goes into a fast. Although i have tried water lemon in the mornings and i feel fine, it cleans you out. Lemon is a wonderful thing.
To those that have tried this - what is the lemon to water ratio?
I want to try this in the am to help...ahem...clean things out a bit.
Have been feeling sluggish and not good lately (i.e. slipped into bad eating habits and gained some lbs), and want to try to jump start myself a bit.

Half a lemon squeezed into a cup of hot water. And/or add a couple of slices of lemon if you get the unwaxed ones, then you get the oils from the skin too.

I've done them, and believe me, they work!

Is it possible to substute lime instead?
I never knew that I need to go buy lemons (or real lemon juice). Thank you.
