    Default The Stripper Back Hump???

Ok, so I've heard it mentioned before, and actually noticed it on girls at work. It's a medium sized bulging hump at the base of the spine where it meets the hips. I've heard it is caused from wearing the platform stilettos over long periods of time. I feel like I am starting to develop this! Is anyone else familiar with this, or know how to reverse/prevent it from happening??? It is definitely unsightly and noticeable on some of the girls who have it.

I've never really noticed it but I'm gonna do a "hump check" at work tomorrow. hehe. Hmmm well, I'd say talk to your chiropractor about it. He should have some good suggestions. I would assume wearing lower heels and stretching would help. maybe try spme cushioned insoles to alleviate pressure.

I'm curious to see if anyone has some more info on this...?

I can't picture what you are taling about..the platforms cause the lower back to over-arch, not round forward.

Yoga and Chiropractic have gotten me through 10 years of stilettos!

I don't have any pics. I first heard about it in an interview with Jenna Jameson, she brought it up when they asked her about her stripping career. Then, I noticed it on a girl at work. She had it BAD, then I began to notice it on other girls. You can see it from the side profile when the dancer is wearing her heels. I asked one girl about (not in a rude way) and she was like, "OMG, I've never noticed that before!" Another dancer who overheard us, chimed in saying she was studying to become a chiropractor, and that happens to women who wear high heels for extended periods of time. It's a result of their pelvis tilting forward little by little, and there's nothing you can do about it. I don't know if this is bogus or not though. I don't have it at all, but then again I only wear flats when I'm not working. I've had surgery on my feet, so I know all about the damaging effects of high heel wear.

I've noticed that the spot at the base of the spine is a little pronounced in the girls at work and I figured that it did have something to do with the heels because it's right above your ass and, well, heels make you stick out your ass a little more because of the back arching.

I've also noticed the same problem at the top, right where the back, shoulders and neck meet too on girls who lay on their back, using their legs to lift their hips while dancing on stage. I started to develop the same at first until I started working on my posture when off the stage and taking warm, relaxing baths and getting massages from friends who can do them properly. No pain or swelling anymore.

I imagine that the problem can mostly be avoided if the platform to heel height was a little flatter and you exercised that area regularly through yoga, "heels to the heaven" ab exercises, and chiropractic help.
Exotic dancing is like any other job.
If you work in an office, you wear dress shoes and a suit.
If you work in a restaraunt, you wear skid resistant shoes and a uniform.
If you work in a strip club, you wear 7" stilettos and lycra g-strings.

If you lead with your hips more it won't happen quite as bad (which is what you should be doing if you are wearing heals in every-day business).

As for we dancers, we tend to arch our backs and stick our asses out since that's one of our selling points. So of course the hump is way more likely to develop with us. Best thing you can do is practice good posture the rest of the time when you're not dancing.

Weird, I've had a hump like this my entire life...I hope it doesn't get bigger the longer I dance. ><

It is just bruises at the base of your spine from doing floor work. Just be mindful of how much pressure you are placing on your lower spine, and you should be able to avoid this altogether.

Its not your shoes. I danced 4 yrs and didnt get it till i started doing more stuff on my back bcuz the stage was new and smooth. All the pressure and bumping on that point creates that lil bump. Much like a bedsore...pressure on that particular bone (and skin) over an extended time.
And all the girls who do floor work on their back, have bumps. Those who dont do floor work, dont have the bump. Mine went away after i quit with the floor.
