Default Do you dance when you have a cold or flu?

If you do, are there any tricks you do to avoid sharing it when you give dances? On the flipside, have you ever actually *tried* to share it with a notably uncool customer (and if you did, what did you do??)?

Lol, like many jobs I look at it as being a downside to being an independent contractor. I just take the day(s) off when sick, and it sucks cause you lose money. But it's pretty gross to be working when sick! I tried one time with a cough and another dancer pointed out to me how gross I looked having to duck away for coughs... fair enough. And once I danced for a guy who smelled like cherry/menthol throat lozenges (not gum or mints) and it really turned me off!

Do a search. There have been several threads on this.

I dont work sick. Part of the reason I am a stripper is so that I don't have to go to work when Im sick.

I don't go, either. It's hard enough for me to be nice sometimes to begin with, let alone when I'm sick and feel like shit. It's also hard on the body, why would you want to put yourself through that? I feel out of the loop since tonight is my first night going back after being sick, but it was definitely a much needed break. I don't even feel bad about losing money, the extra time home helped me to catch wayyyyy up on school work.

i try to avoid working sick. Last time when I worked when I was sick I thought that I was better before I went to work. Then during a lapdance I suddenly really needed to couch up a lung. I tried to hide it from the customer and it made my eyes water so I spent the remainder of the dance facing away from the customer grinding and bending over because I was kinda panicking because I really needed to cough and those were the only two moves I could think of in that state and I looked like I was crying and didnt want him to see. After the dance I grabbed my money then ran to the bathroom and coughed. Then management wouldnt let me go home early even after seeing me hack up a lung in the corner of the dressing room , which is retarted because at that point they should have been worried about me getting other girls sick. but fortunately after that I had no more coughing bouts. I went back to the customer after I had some water to drink and no longer needed to cough and aplologized for running away... I told him I had athsma and my athsma kicked in during the dance and I needed to run and get my inhaler, he was sympathetic. You dont want to be coughing all over the customers or have htem know you are sick, especially with the swine flu hype. I would try to avoid working if you need to cough since that causes your germs to go everywhere and will get the dressing room sick. If you arent coughing everywere and arent contagious then you are good to work, although it might be harder to hustle.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I haven't gotten sick since 2006 but if I were I'd stay home and eat chicken noodle soup, not that sharing it with customers wouldn't be fun. Haha. jk

I would stay home. If my nose is really runny and I'm coughing then I'll stay home. If I have a fever I stay home too. If I have to go in, then I'll wash my hands frequently but I'll skip it if I'm really coughing because that is just gross and unnattractive.

I seem to make more money when I'm sick than I do normally.
Especially when I'm running a fever.

If I were coughing or something maybe I'd stay home if cough syrup weren't fixing it... but that'd be the only way.

Working with a fever is pretty gross IMO...not to mention really bad for your body. Especially with a job as physical as dancing. A fever is one of the main reasons to stay home from work.

^^Not necessarily. You could have a fever and not feel bad or only feel a little 'under the weather' or you could have a perfectly normal temp and feel absolutely dead. I never really take my temp unless I am in the dead category, so the only time I notice a fever is if I happen to have one when I feel really shitty. Coughing/sneezing excessively or having a very contagious condition like pink eye or something would be gross but a fever is not such a big deal. Its more about how you feel than the actual fever itself.

I fail to see how working with a fever is gross. It's not like I've got dripping mucus or am coughing or coated in sweat. So my body temperature feels a bit higher than normal. It's gross to work when you're feeling uncomfortably warm?

i agree with coco34, working with a fever is gross, no one has a fever unless they are sick and most likely contagious so not only is it gross but it is selfish because you are exposing customers and other dancers and employees to whatever you have, unless you have an infection, like a tooth infection that is causing you to have a fever, which imo is ok to work if it a fever caused by an infectionm in the mouth or otherwise. however working with a fever subjects others to whatever you have,. on top of all that it is awful for your body to push it like that when you are ill, a fever is a sign that you are more then just sick and that you need to rest and not to be exposed to other germs, which are prominant at clubs, you are dancing close to someone and they are breathing on you and whatnot, you are very vulnerable to other disease, so basically working with a fever is selfish, not smart, and basically not a good idea. im sure one of yuo will rip me apart for this comment but i dont really care, its my opinion.

Actually... It's normally just my doctor switching my medications (In an on-going struggle to find a good mix... it gets switched every 2-6 months, depending) and nothing to do with illness at all.
So. I'm non-contagious when I go in with a fever.

Bad for my body, sure... but selfish, no way.
I'm not a selfish person. I resent your implication that I might be... and were this not, for the most part, a very friendly message board. I'd say something very unpleasant about where exactly you could shove your implication.

welllllll, id love for you tell me where to shove my implication, because you claim that this is friendly message board and you jumped all over me because of my opinion. last time i checked this was a free country and freedome of speech gives me the right to have an opinion as do you. the funny thing is that you get your panties all in a bunch when i give my opinion but your opinion well is just funny to me. switching meds doesnt give you a fever. i have switched meds a lot in my 26 years on this planet and have never heard of a fever as a side effect. but thats your opinion and i respect that im not going to jump all over you for your opinion. you do what you want, and as for this being a friendly message board, well i have read plently of thread in my 5 years as a member that are mean and insulting to members on this board. so tell me where to shove that comment, i might just like it.

I'm glad you're so well versed in all the potential side effects of every medication ever made that you would know that there is NO medication that cause cause fever as a potential bad reaction.

In addition to the already provided link above.

maybe i just dont care and maybe you didnt read my last post where i said that this is my opinion. i dont really care to fight with anyone because well, i dont know you and it doesnt really matter in the grand scheme of life. you all are so silly, and immature that on a saturday night you are getting worked up over my post. im posting right now because im bored and sick wthi the flu and oh my god! im not working because it would be really selfish of me to work with a fever. so basically let me sum this up, you all are providing entertainment for me while i sit here with the flu. lame lame lame. but as long as you all are all upset i might as well tell you that im not going to look at your links because well i dont care, i know that if i have a fever i dont work, consider me stupid and simple minded but it just doesnt matter to me if you post 1000000 links about how right you are because in my mind, YOU ARE STILL WRONG......so entertain me please, i look forward to your responses.

    Holy crazy, batman!

I don't think anyone's worked up but you.
If you choose not to click links with factual information proving that your statement was incorrect, because you'd rather believe your opinion, that's your business. Lol.

Just sayin'... fact is, what you said earlier is incorrect. And there's research to back that up.

Anyone know if there's a way to ignore people on this board that I can click? PM me if there is, please.
*edit - Nm. Found it. Problem solved.

    ^^I second that wow.

Also, I've always heard that with colds, you are really only contagious in the few days before you start to have symptoms. If that's true, and I think it is, then passing it to customers isn't really a concern. I prefer not to dance with snot dripping out of my nose, but I will if I'm broke.
