    Default Waitressing or bar-tending first?

I want to become a stripper soon. I really do. I'm just such a shy person, I've been putting it off. I would like to get comfortable with a nice club first. I feel like working as a waitress or being a bartender for several months at a strip club would be a great way to do this.

Have any of you waitressed or tended a bar at a strip club? What was it like? How was the money?

Experiences, feedback, advice, anything is appreciated!!

I originally went this route. Many girls do this, and management told me up front that if I ever was interested in auditioning all I had to do was ask.

The money is definitely not as good for a beginning waitress. This was my first job ever, so not only was I a newbie at the club, I just lacked the skills to really be a good waitress. My first night I made $75 and I worked my ass off. In my opinion, the work is much more difficult too. Taking drink orders in a loud club, trying to clear tables when there are naked ladies in guys laps. But I was okay with it because my goal was to be a dancer.

It definitely helps if you have never experienced that kind of environment before. But you don't really get to chat with guys. Its also really hard if you don't have any knowledge about alcohol. For example, I had guys come and say "get me a shot that will start this party!" This was an awesome situation to make a good tip - but I don't know shit about liquor.

A question...Do you have experience bartending or waitressing? If not, waitressing is yourt best option for a few reasons.

-Usually without experience,an establishment won't put you straight behind the bar.Reason is that you are responsible for all the cash that goes through the whole place, besides waitresses tickets and your own orders. You have to master the register, know how to run credit card tabs, count very fast, remember orders, restock, etc etc,do all of that and multitask very fast, that's all before knowing how to make drinks. When I bartended, the hardest was the register,I forgot the name of the system, but it was a touch screen that won't let you go back and erase a mistake, have to call the manager. But there are systems that will let you do that, depends on the bar.
-When you're waitessing you have a bit more interaction with customers. You walk around instead of being always behind the bar, giving you the opportunity to talk to more customers and more of them.

Often when a waitress makes an order mistake, the bartender is responsible. The mistakes can be taken out of your paycheck if you're "under" when turning in your checks and bank at the end of the shift.

I found that waitessing was much easier and more social, but that's my experience and could be different at different bars. But if you are planning on dancing eventually, then definitely waitressing is the best option either way.
    Good luck!

Waitressing is a good way to get a feel of what the environment is like as an employee. I started cocktailing before I became a dancer, and I was pretty shocked at how different it feels being an employee versus a patron. I thought my comfort level wouldn't change but it did, I was more intimidated and almost a little uncomfortable when I first started out. After a few shifts that changed (obviously) and eventually I started to dance. If you feel this as well when you start out, don't be discouraged. It takes a little time to get used to a very different atmosphere, especially when it's completely new. Just remember to have fun, making money is the goal but enjoying what you do is as important

You can definitely start waitressing. I waitressed at an SC in college, then didn't work in SC's for years, then started ( and quit ) dancing last year. You can kind of bop around and do what you feel like works at the time and it's fine!
It would have been smarter to waitress for a week or two ( which you can do ! ) and tell all the customers that you are trying to get the guts to dance so that they will be there with their money when you dance ! A bartender at my old club worked there forever and didn't dance. She did the amateur night one night and made A TON.

cock tail waitressing for sure, sometimes at some clubs they let waitresses do dances as well and you can get an idea of what the dancers do better then you would as a bartender because you are going to the tables and you can over hear the girls talking to custies. the bartender are usually more busy and have more contact with customers just gettingthem drinks.

This is how I started out. One day I was so bored and this dancer was bragging how much money she made.

I thought to myself "If I could make half of what she made in 10 HOURS I'd be stoked!"

That was a long time ago. ha ha.
