Default I think I broke my body - HELP!

While I was in Japan for 5 months, I gained a considerable amount of weight (16 pounds) which I guess I was expecting - since a lot of time was spent going out with friends and also the most drinking I've ever done.
Anyway, within 2 weeks of returning home, I gained 21 more pounds, which scared the crap out of me. It was due probably to the change in diet plus all my family members not helping by insisting on feeding me extravagantly.

Anyway, when I returned to school, I hit the gym hard and tried to return to my daily, healthy life ASAP. I have lost 86 pounds before - so even though I was upset about being in this situation, it was familiar territory. I went down to a 1200 - 1050 calorie a day diet. I worked out for 2 - 4 hours a day (not all at the same time, I would have 4 different gym visits throughout the day an hour at a time). Anyway, its been 2 months and I've only lost 3 pounds. In the last 3 weeks, I've gone down to 880 calories a day. I've simplified my diet too - I eat mainly fruits and vegetables - usually raw or steamed with very few additives. I've gotten rid of most meat - I rely almost exclusively on eggs and some center cut bacon - and beans and peanut butter. I only drink water, and a lot of it everyday. Still no good Plus I have the worse acne I've every had in my life (although thanks to previous acne advice from you guys it has gone down a bit). I feel like my body doesn't respond to food the way it used to - like I literally broke it or something.

    Any advice?

    1. Cut out the peanut butter
    2. Add lean protein like chicken, turkey or tofu
    3. Snack on apples and protein like non-fat yogurt. Get protein in every meal because it makes you feel full longer. Also, a protein shake like AdvantEdge chocolate, strawberry or vanilla is a good drink before a workout. It gives you energy, and again the protein keeps your blood sugar stable.

You gotta cut out that peanut butter though. That's hidden fat with not a lot of nutrition. Egg yolks are ok because they have a lot of important nutrients your body needs, but peanut oil is not as good for you as olive oil or canola oil. It's mainly polyunsaturated fat.

Was it a long time ago that you previously lost so much weight? I have noticed it is increasingly difficult to lose weight the older I get. I lost about 20 lbs once within two months, only from drinking 4 liters of water a day. Now, I can't shed it so easily. I would just keep at it and give it time. I have also noticed that it can sometimes take a while for all my efforts to "kick in" so to speak, and all of the sudden the weight will fall off of me. I have a stubborn body. I would keep at it at least three more weeks! Good luck!

Go to the Doctor and make sure your hormone levels are normal and get checked out for any other problems that may be effecting your weight. How are you feeling otherwise? Any issues like feeling tired or stressed or depressed? Any insomnia or other sleeping problems like sleep apnea? Could you have picked up a bug while overseas? The weight gain could also be caused by kidney disease or a parasite that effects kidneys or your heart. You could also be dealing with Type 2 diabetes, whereas in the early stages a person gains a lot of weight before it starts dropping rapidly.

Once you've ruled out a medical explanation, your doctor should have some good advice as how to proceed. But definately get to the Doctor! Since you stated that you have a history of obesity, I'd look at the type 2 diabetes first and rule out that possibility.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon

You know, Diabetes runs in my mother's side of the family...I'm kind of surprised that I didn't consider this before. I was so used to dealing with weight loss by myself, I never thought about going to the doctor. I feel silly now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

peanut butter and bacon is a NO NO if you are trying to lose. when i had my wisdoms pulled (all 4) I lived on peanut butter smoothies for a month ( as I had dry socket). I was afraid of loosing to much weight from not being able to eat solid foods, but thanks to the butter I stayed 10 lbs. within limit . Pork/bacon is one of the fattier meats. Stick to lean cut chicken and fish.

do you have a pattern of yo-yo dieting? this seriously fucks your metabolism. It's twice as harder to lose weight everytime you gain and then try to lose again. Did you check your thryoid? You might have hypothyroid. If you eating that low calories, and working out, you should be losing weight. Have a endocrinologist do a simple blood test. Are you tired alot?

I have a serious peanut butter addiction too. The calories add up VERY quickly.

If you are POSITIVE there aren't any extra calories sneaking in there somehow, I agree with Paris, see a doctor!

How is your G-I track? Kinda gross, but if you aren't going #2 regularly then there is a problem.

yeah i do have a history. Loosing the 86 pounds was definitely a yo-yoing battle but, for one year before going to Japan I was able to keep I constant, steady weight and I didn't regain the 86 pounds.

I chose center cut bacon because of the low calories per serving (60 calories per 3 slices). Plus, its significantly cheaper, which makes a difference right now since I'm in my final year of school and too busy to get a job.
Peanut butter toast is also my go-to when I have dessert cravings...I always thought it was a good substitute - I love the peanut butter x_x
Anyway, calling the doctor and getting blood test done today.
