Default feeling incompetent...GLORIFY it for me, please!

i want to dance and i know confidence is the most important tool i need to do it well, but fuck, i'm feeling so incompetent. i need to purge my "if i only had a girlfriend to do this with it would all be so easy" attitude as it is not getting me anywhere. I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN MAKE SHIT HAPPEN!

so, can you please glorify the whole scene for me? i don't want to hear anything negative like "sometimes you will make shit all" and i want to hear things like "i drive an audi and i got myself out of debt so i can now start living my life" as i think it will really help me to just do it, you know? (also, it might be fun for you to reflect on all the good things about the job, tee hee.)

thanks, everyone. i'm so glad this place exists...

A year ago... I moved to Los Angeles with about $100 to my name and was able to make enough money to survive and eventually get my own place.
And that's with my shitty LA income and lack of motivation to actually go to work more than a day or two a week!

    /shrug.
    Idk if that's glorifying it.
The reality of it is that you can be a very successful person... or not. It all depends on you.

You are the only person in your life who can make YOUR life happen. Don't depend on anyone, and don't expect anyone to help. You will be a stronger person in the end because of this. It will only make you stronger.
Dig deep inside yourself and know that YOU CAN DO THIS.
    Good luck

    You asked for it.....

I started dancing 10 years just so I could afford groceries. I am now a multiple business owner with several streams of income.

I got into dancing totally alone, with no help from anyone (except stripperweb!)
Another newbie started at my club the same week as me.
We've both been dancing for about 6 months now and now work together at another club and are friends, so even if you don't start dancing w/ a girl friend you will probably make a few along the way.

I make more money than anyone in my family, or any of my friends (I average $18-$60/hr on nights when I work). Since my living expenses are pretty low and I dedicate a lot of time to environmental & community organizing I only work 2-3 days a week. I now have a bag of hot stripper clothes- thigh-high boots, neon fishnet stockings, and tiny 2-pieces. I get compliments on things I am normally super self-conscious about (some guy the other night complimented my "flat belly"... huh?!?). On most nights I come home with a sense of satisfaction, a few hundred dollar bills, and something to brag about to my boyfriend. I sit around and regale my roommates with hilarious stories from work, because no matter how absurd/stupid/money-less/slow a night at work is there is always something to laugh about.

You get to set your own time and potentially make more in a day than many in a week.

You get to truly be the master of your fate and become your own capital.

I was able to save up $6,000 in 3 months and have the best time ever in Japan all due to the awesome stripper cash.

Halloween is coming! AND THE BARS ARE GOING TO BE OPEN AN EXTRA HOUR? Its like you'll be destined to bank - go out there and do it!

If that's not glorifying it I don't know what is!

wow nice one audrey! I don't drive an audi (I drive a VW Golf) but I pretty much buy whatever I want for my husband, friends and myself without even thinking twice. Like my new $3000 prada handbag...mmmmmm. I party like a rockstar at least once every two-three weeks which usually means I'm spending $500-$1000 on "entertainment". But I still have my student loans in canada... I'm slowly chipping away at them. They are just not as exciting as a night on the town with my friends LOL. I'm terrible with money but I figure easy come, easy go and I'm gonna live it up now.

Don't take a girlfriend with you...causes more confidence issues...trust me. Imagine your GF makes more than you consistently every night... not much help is it?

    Good luck girly!

You don't need exotic dancing to be glorified, you just need to take the first step and go audition. Make going to the audition your only goal and the only expectation you'll have will be actually getting up there and dancing.

Trying to pressure yourself into being a super stripper on your first day will undermine your self confidence. Give yourself a break, and just go for it without any expectations of what you want the outcome to be beyond just auditioning.

Once you've gotten through the audition, then you can decide what you want to do after that. There is no commitment to becoming a dancer just because you auditioned. You can walk out of the club as easily as you walked in.

So, set a date and time that you are going to audition, and stick to it. The only real losers in the world are the ones that never try in the first place.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

why would you want us to glorify this industry?

It's a job, just like any other job out there. It's not supposed to be fun, it's work. You are either cut out for it, or you're not. If you're not, you'll know right away.

If you're not making any money in this industry, why stay and try to justify it?

I knew right away that this was for me. I've been dancing for 7 years and have seen multitudes of girls come and go. In my experience only 5% of the girls that I have seen in the club are right for this industry.

I disagree. The only losers are the ones that try so hard to convince themselves that they belong in the adult industry, when they clearly do not.

Despite the economic turmoil, if you have been dancing for 6 or more months and you find yourself going home with less than $200 a day (and you KNOW that you are not included in the 20% of the girls that make 80% of the money - consistently) then why even bother?

^^I was speaking in general and not specifically about the stripping business.

sometimes when you are trying to fulfill your dreams, they can seemingly become overwhelming and unattainable. A little bit of icing to get you pumped up isn't completely bad.

The girl just wants a little overly glamorous images to help remind her why she wants to do this. there's no need to take it so seriously

you want to hear about the cars, so hear you go:

i was flat broke before i started and now i drive a fly bmw. Leather seats, tinted windows, optional stick shift, the whole shebang.

i could go on and on about how much i love the industry. but i wont.

i also somewhat agree with elusive. several ppl dont belong in the industry. but saying that only 5% belong in it is a little bit harsh...

then again im thinkin that like 90% of girls at one of the clubs i worked at were extras whores, and i dont believe that extras whores belong in the industry, so maybe the figure in some cases isnt too far off.

ive always made my money without being a hooker .
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

Jobs aren't supposed to be fun? Mannnn I must have been doing something wrong my whole life because I've had a lot of fun jobs...sure some not so fun ones too, but I actually find dancing fun 75% of the time. If it was all about money then I wouldn't bother. Just because you have fun or enjoy what you do doesn't make you a bad dancer or bad earner.

And she wants motivation to take the plunge. I know I certainly would have never tried it if I thought dancers went home with less than $200 a shift. I heard they all drove nicer cars than the customers and make $1K a night so I checked it out.

Also since she has an OSAP debt so dancing is obviously not her career anyways she's just trying to set herself up with some caaaaaash baby!

Obviously stripping is not for everyone...but only one way to find out!

    thank you all sooo much.

i really just needed that little extra encouragement to make sure i don't drive all the way to the club and turn around...

i have this theory that if something is hard (like dancing as it can physically and emotionally drain you) it's usually worth it in the end.

i know i want to do this, i just hope i can, you know? i agree that some people have the hustling capablities and the sex appeal that can make (imo) a dancer really successful, and some don't... i just hope i'm the former bc if i don't get this debt uder control i really am right fucked. i mean i won't be able to pay for my weddding; i won't qualify for a mortgage; and anything else that relates to money.

with me luck! thank you all! i start TONIGHT! ahhh!

Kjgrrrl just don't put too much pressure on yourself at the start. I takes time to figure everything out. Some girls walk in and start earning huge on the first night but then fall quickly once the excitement wears off...others start out slowly and try out different techniques to eventually find the best one for them. Remember this club may not be a match for you either. They are not all the same. Just be prepared for a little trial and error at the start. I've only been dancing for about 16 months if you combine all the times I danced, but I still try new styles of hustle all the time and work at several different clubs to keep things fresh. It's still some easy money... I remember the days of being a student back in Canada... I was earning $4 to teach 10 screaming kids swimming lessons in freezing cold water for 30 mins. Now I get $140-$250(depending on the club) to look hot, smile, dance and chat to mostly cool guys for 30 mins. I just wish I actually had the balls to try it when I was back in University and then maybe I wouldn't have any debt at all now.
