    Dizzy Agencies

I've heard girls talk about agencies helping them get gigs at private parties, and helping them pick up modeling contracts and get into nice clubs. How widespread are these agencies? Are they required or preferred for someone who is strictly dancing at a club? What kind of fees do they charge?

I mean I've heard of a talent agent, but I didn't think just a normal dancer would need a talent agent if she was sticking to a club.

    Help!

i would say to any girls in the uk it is illegal for an agency to charge you to be on their books or a joining fee, i know the scarlet agency asked for money off me and told me they had an exclusive deal with the 2 clubs in cardiff to supply them with girls(unbelievable especialy since one is aFYEO) i asked the scarlet ageny more questions about dress codes etc and didn't hear anything from them so i e-mailed saying i would ring the club myself, i did and the club had never heard of the 'managing director' Tim Harveywho runs the whole agency and had no arrangements with him! so be careful who you deal with and dont give them any money. i will also add he wanted me to stay in a room in his house and pay because he thought the whole town would be booked up because of rugby!

If you strictly want to be a club dancer, then just go to the club. 90% of clubs will hire without an agency. However a small few only hire through agencies. In this case the club will likely tell you what agency they hire through.

Most of the agencies that claim to place dancers are scams. Usually some pervert guy who might ask you to dance or pose for him. The other scam is they'll ask for money upfront. I'd only get an agent if you want to do more (feature, parties, model etc) but once again you can do most of this without a true agent. There's a few legit agencies and a few post here. I'd only go with these people, and not some guy (and it's usually guys pulling the scams) who wants to see you dance, model (usually nude), etc before he can "represent" you.

Not true on my part BUT, you did say "usually" so I will give you the benefit of the doubt. No sleazy man here and no $ paid to agency for house dancers and just industry standard commission after completed jobs for features.

No true either. Modeling can be done w/o but isn't suggested since you could get yourself into nasty situations on your own. Featuring CANNOT be done without an agent. Not sure about parties cause I don't do them or book them.
BTW, even us women ask the ladies to model... but difference is I make them wear a bikini!

if you live in a city you probably dont need an agent to work at a club as a house dancer within a city. You just go to the club and audition yourself and go to work regularly after being hired.

Agencies are useful for things like traveling. They can get you booked places and have some of your travel expenses paid for etc etc. If clubs are specifically looking for girls then the agency will know.

Ive worked with Nakita's agency before. She didnt take any of my money and I wouldnt consider her "sleazy" or a "scam" or a "pervert guy."
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

That makes sense, but I was talking about the perverts who ask for nude test shoots and are scams. There are many around here and can sense them a mile away. One guy fooled me years ago so I watch out for them. This is a problem with non nude modeling too. I still wouldn't go to an agency if I was only wanting to be a house dancer. That makes no sense in most situations (except the ones I mentioned where the club only goes through agencies)

I'd only get an agent if you want to do more (feature, parties, model etc) but once again you can do most of this without a true agent.

As for modeling I had an agent, but later on worked without one. I've considered checking into becoming an agent myself because I know how it works. Safe? Maybe not always but I meet people before I work with them. There's no guarantee anyone will be safe even with an agency. I'm always alert because there are scams. And even many so called "agencies" are scams or (in the case of bachelor parties) fronts for prostitution. I know, I briefly worked for one of them before I worked for myself (quit immediately when I found this out). I'd never work for a modeling or bachelor party agency again because many are scams. If it's not the nude shoots, it's the money upfront. I'm basically talking modeling and dancing for parties because those are my background and have done both for years.

That makes sense but I was talking about the guys who ask to see the model nude before they will hire. I probably wasn't clear on this, but once again there are many scams of this nature. Even one of the clubs here (nude) supposedly hired an "agent" to see the girls nude. Turned out this never happened and the so called agent was secretly videotaping.

I'm not talking about the agencies for featured dancing because the OP wasn't talking about that. She was talking about club dancing and I don't see the purpose of giving an agency a commission on something most dancers can do for themselves. She's asking if they are required to be a house dancer and most of the time they aren't. Incidentally, I was thinking spedifically of your agency when I said there are a few legit, but I don't think she's interested in being a feature. That's another topic.

House dancers don't pay commissions to agents...or at least not the Traveling Entertainers. Nor do they pay fees to the agency which is why I said only features pay the agency via commission. Not sure if you knew we weren't just a feature agency we also book house dancers.

I don't know of any areas who exclusively book through agencies other than certain cities in Michigan? Any one want to offer up that info because I don't know of any other area that does that? It would actually be interesting to know!

Actually, I didn't know you booked house dancers. There is a club here that does (or did not sure anymore) that only hired dancers through a specific agency and these dancers tended to be traveling house dancers. That's what I meant when I said there are exceptions. However here I've seen the scam (not saying you are a scam. You aren't) where an "agency" around here will hire a dancer, get them into a club and ask for a commission. The dancer doesn't realize that they didn't need this agency and are spending money they didn't need to. I was thinking of this example of an agency asking for money when the dancer did it all by themselves mostly.

^^ I have heard of that in a few places. Not sure who those people are and what there company names are- so I couldn't be of any help telling you to watch out for so & so. Most agencies who book house dancers will get their money directly from the clubs.

Yes it is a good rule of thumb that if you are not getting a paycheck, you shouldn't be paying an agent commission. Agencies can commission a paycheck- like for a feature or even a paid house dancer. But an agency that wants a commission without that check IMO is a scam. I mean, how the hell to they know how much you really made to be able to ask for their 15%?

Now, if we are talking about a fee- thats different. If an agency wants a per shift fee from you for getting you the job- you need to define that once you establish your relationship. A reputable agent gets their fees directly from clubs because of the relationship established with that club.
