    Default Cymbalta anyone??

Hey, just wondering if anyone is on the anti-dep. Cymbalta, or if anyone has ever been on it? If so, did you experience any side effects, did it help, did it make symptoms worse? Any crazy shit?

My doctor wants me to try this for my anxiety and for the fact that I cry randomly for no reason everyday. I don't think I'm depressed at all tho, just stressed. I've been on almost every other anti-dep. in the past and they had me all types of fucked up!

    Thanks

Hey Flaka, I tried Cymbalta about 6 months ago when I was having problems similar to yours. Personally, it made me feel even more depressed and gave me a lot of headaches. After 2 months of NO progress, the doc switched me to Pristiq, which is also an SNRI like Cymbalta. It did the trick after about 5 weeks and a few months later, I feel more positive and better about myself than I have in years. The only side effect I have now is some insomnia, even though I take it in the morning.
Of course, everybody is different, and the worst part about these drugs is that you have to take them for at least a month before you can gauge whether it has the potential to help.
    Good luck!

Yes it works very very well BUT it will Bloat the s--t out of you (short term) and also (long term ) weight gain 10 lbs or more; people will say "oh that's not what happened to me" all SSRIs cause weight gain over time; say you're 120 now well it may take 1,3,5 years but you will be 140 or more

I take 60mgs a day and it helps me a lot. Beware though that once you start taking it...you cant just decide to stop. The withdrawls are horrible. If I am a cpl hrs late taking mine, I get "brain zaps" which feel just like that...electrical currents zapping through my head. Any longer and I visibly twitch and have trouble speaking.

I'm really sensitive to SSRIs and similar meds. My physician prescribed me Cymbalta for anxiety last month. I made it two days...nausea, migraine, feeling really weird and bad.
I ended up going back to my old psychiatrist and getting klonopin for my anxiety. Doctors are reluctant to precribe benzos nowadays, but i just can't deal with antidepressants.
Your experience may vary-I think most people can tolerate antidepressants better than me.

in most cases you are better off consistently walking/ jogging 3 or 4 miles a day, and you can refer to the Duke University stiudies that allude to this. Those drugs are absolute garbage crap and s/b avoided along with probably most of the Big Pharma crap they are pushing on the network news shows each evening . We've medicalized nearly everything today, a disease or affliction created or hype that magically is supposed to be fixed by pills. You will even find many MDs today that will admit that same thing, so this is not an expert vs non-expert issue per se. Own Big Phrama stocks but avoid most of what they are pushing - you will be much better off, believe me

I don't know about SSRI's, but I have horrible anxiety as well, and got extremely physically addicted to Xanax. I used to think that all that physical addiction/ withdrawal talk was bullshit, and I just quit taking my pills one day. No big deal, right? WRONG. I ended up in the ER, feeling those "brain zaps" thinking I was having a seizure!

This is just my opinion, I don't know your situation, but I would try other alternatives before going on any anti depressant. I researched the Hell out of how these pills work on your brain, and it's scary how long it takes for you to get back to normal when you decide to quit taking them. So many of these are just pure poison, and I have never heard anything spectacular about Cymbalta. Also, in my experience, they make you blow up and gain a TON of weight!

I noticed a HUGE difference in my mood after a month or two of taking high dose fish oils and alpha lipoic acid. Like a notable, significant difference for the better! (and honestly I am a total skeptic) Also, just 20 minutes of exercise a day (Jillian Michael's 30 day shred!) and I don't need any medication at all!

To each her own I suppose, but definitely research all avenues before committing to taking anti depressants. Once you go down that road, it's hard to come back.

"Also, just 20 minutes of exercise a day"

TThere's a Harvard Medical School educated doctor ( his book is OVERDOSED AMERICA) that for years has been in essence claiming (correctly I believe) that most depression (excluding the 10% or dire circumstances, severe situations) is for the the most part a "disease" of exercise deficiency.

He's been lambasted for this of course, so he's had to reword it.

He doesn't put the evol bio spin on it per se, buts its not hard to figure one out.

For example as DNA looks at it, maybe extreme sendatary living could be interpreted by genes to be eequated with impending death -which probably is pretty close to what is was in an evolutionary terms,. If you didn't or couldn't move during primoridal timeframes (most of man's existence) - you probably were at deaths door, thus depression or anxiety would make sense.

Genes probably simply cannot recognize today's sendentary existence

I agree with the fact that exercise and healthy living can and does improve your mental health as well as give you a more positive environment to live in. But one of the main symptoms of depression is the loss of motivation and actual physical discomfort and body pain. Its hard to tell yourself to go outside and jog when you are physically handicapped by a mental condition.

Plus, its not nice to make these sweeping generalizations about people that "look" unhealthy. There a plenty of people that lead amazingly active lifestyles but unfortunately since we think only thin, fit looking people are fit their health is disregarded.

Depression is a real condition people have had to seek treatment for and they save lives.

Of course there is variation, but the general trend is obvious. Humans in modern western advanced industrialized societies pretty much stopped moving around 5o to 80 years back. This has created a huge amount of problems, depression being just one, with diabetes being another. The Walmart reference is accurate but overly broad - but to make the point

Probably only 10% to 20% of people are (naturally heavy) endomorphic body types, its obviously very hard for these people to maintain normal weight, I'm aware of that fact.

I' m referring to the two-thirds where the issue really is lifestyle
