    Default Red to Blonde?

    Hey ladies
have a quick question for you all. I have naturally dark red auburn hair with green eyes and freckles. I would LOVE LOVE to go blonde. Not sure what shade? Can i buy a 'at home kit' like garnier or l'oreal and dye it blonde? I've heard it would turn orange?! ack!
Should i just go to a salon?
What shade blonde?(with freckles, green eyes) Honey, ect?

You can use a box if you're going light to dark, but for going dark to light you should definitely go to a salon!

If you aren't already very familiar with how to dye hair... it's always best to go to a salon from dark to light.

It's not that hard to do... but it's pretty easy to mess it up.

Wow, to me "naturally dark red auburn hair with green eyes and freckles" is pretty much the ideal of female beauty...

If you absolutely insist on doing it yourself... go thy self to Sally's and tell them what you are doing and ask them to recommend the right toner. You have to use a toner in addition to the dye in order to prevent the brassiness (orange).

I agree with everyone else, your hair is for sure going to turn brassy if you do this at home. It is very difficult to dye hair with red undertones blonde on your own.

If you are concerned about how expensive it will be to dye your hair at the salon, it'll be a lot more expensive and time consuming to reverse any mistakes you may make coloring your hair at home.

It's totally worth the money to go to a professional, I think you'll be a lot more satisfied with the results and you won't have to tear up your bathroom doing it

Salon it is! I would hate to mess up my hair, and you're right it would be WAY more money to fix it. I'm going to spend the money and go to the salon, and get it right!

If you're in or near NYC pm me. I have the most amazing colorist to recommend. He's expensive but not ridiculously so like at the designer salons. Interestingly enough I look like a natural redhead because of him!

He's great with blondes too. I've seen some women who should NOT go blond get of of his chair looking like an awesome blond!!

    Go to a salon.
Pick a blonde shade which is consistent with your colouring. If you're a natural redhead you may look sickly as a platinum or ash blonde, or it may clash with a ruddy complexion. My best bet for you is a strawberry blonde...a golden reddish tone. It needs to be a warm shade because that natural red pigment molecule is huge and it doesn't like to go away. It's easier to work with it than to try to fight it and possibly end up really damaging your hair. I really don't see this being a single process. I'm thinking that the stylist may lighten you up to the level of blonde you want then deposit colour with the tonality that you want.
