Here's a BIG reason why N.Y. and N.J.'s middle class are moving to Florida:

    Median Household Income- N.Y.- $51,000 ; Florida - $44,000
    Median Home Value - N.Y.- $538,000 ; Florida - $204,7000 *
    Gas At Pump - N.Y. $2.85 a gallon ; Florida $2.60
    Income Taxes - N.Y, 10% for state & city - Florida- ZERO
    Sales Tax - N.Y. 8.75 % ; Florida - 7 %

    * Home prices from N.Y.C. and Pinellas County, Florida

1,000 blessings upon you and yours. I was looking up your figures and found by accident I am eligible for a Homestead Rebate of $1,000. I filed my NJ Tax late as I owed no tax and didn't get the form back yet. The deadlined for filing is today November 2. I called and they are mailing me the form and giving me a extension. Oh happy day.

    For you.

My friends, both high income earners, recently left NYC. Why? They got laid off from their jobs. The highest earning spouse worked in the financial industry, although on the IT side. They couldn't afford to stay in the city on the other spouse's partner alone. Then, she got laid off anyway.

Maybe THAT is why people are leaving? With the high cost of living there, you can't just ride out a few months of unemployment without draining your savings. Ya gotta go!

I really don't understand the Manhatten mistique. I live in a single family house with a hugh swamp for what a studio would cost in Manhatten. 40 minuts by train leaves at leats every hour. My former vacation place in East Orange costs less than a park bench in Tompkins Square Park . That was 10 minuts away.

How can you compare living in Manhattan and living in a house with a swamp?

I'd take the swamp before Manhattan any day. At least the animals are more discrete in taking bathroom breaks.

    I was in this Jersey Swamp not long ago and a local guy sang;

"I was raised out of steel here in the swamps of Jersey
My home is here at the Meadowlands
Where mosquitoes grow as big as airplanes
Here where the blood is spilled, the arena is filled
    And Giants play the game."

What does the swamp do that is so beneficial? Can you built on it, without sinking the foundation? Are you trying to grow and export mosquitos? Because, really, we have PLENTY down here....

I guess I could just Wiki the value and uses of swampland....

They can come back to NJ we now have a Republican Governor. I didn't vote for Corzine because I got several bogus EZ pass tickets.

BTW, while we are on the subject, is it needed to point out the obvious: That it is just possible that if you are willing to judge the worth of someone simply by what you read on a website about them it might say a whole hell of a lot more about you than it says about the person you are judging?

I was there October 8 and it was the best show I ever saw. I won't list the bands I have seen but Hendrix, Zeppelin and others come to mind. Some Dead band band played there also. The man is 60 years old; he opened for himself and did not stop for three hours. Max Weinberg eyes were roiled back in his head. When the best band in the world plays in a swamp in Jersey they know what they must do.

I hear ya. I didn't mean the show though. Not even the performance.

I meant its not his best song. Not even close.

It is better than most of the Nebraska album.

I posted that in defense of all Swamps in Jersey. It was not the highlight of the show but the opening act. Only the Boss can open for the E Street Band.

He said he and the band toured all over the world practicing for these shows. I truly believe they did, friends and family are the hardest to impress; I was impressed.

Cool. Sorry I missed him this time around.

Couldn't get the tix I wanted and at this point I'm not going unless I get great seats.

There were no bad seats. In fact they did a shot of section 318 rows 28 and above I missed being on camera by eight rows. I jumped as high as I could but only could manage 7 rows.

I went to the last play at Shay, Billy and Paul plus a few others, Garth Brooks, Tony Bennett and others I can't remember. The Boss blew them away, totally blew them away in a Swamp in Jersey.

I went to some Woodstock reunions and saw some of the greatest of all time form 10 feet away. I saw a women that I want to have her babies from 10 feet away.

    That is all.

^ If you can find a walk route home where you will be lightly frisked by an attractive lady cop, why the heck not?

We've got as couple of them around here, but I never go drinking at bars so I can drive home. Plus it's normally a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

You must have a cadre of gold-plated mosquitoes.

New Jersey is almost paved over and the state keeps buying land to keep it open space. Most ot the North West part of the state is now protected from building because of the underground water.

My swamp is in one of the better counties.

If the government buys the land as part of eminent domain, do they have to pay you market value? Something in my head says, "reasonable market value"...is that correct?
