    Default Bio Oil

I was wondering what you guys (ladies) thought of bio oil? I bought some today because a woman I trust told me that us uses it as her facial moisterizer and that it has done wonders for her aging skin. Now I am pretty young but I have gone through a pretty shitty drug and alcohol period and now I am on blood thinners after having a stroke two weeks ago. YES a flipping stroke (Have you seen those Yaz commercials? ...Cause that's what caused it) I heard that blood thinner age your skin extremely fast and it's already aged past it's years as far as I am concerned!

    Have you use bio oil?

What did you use it for and how did you use it?

    What were your results?

Are there any other products you recommend that help with aging. (I do NOT want to get botox but I am open to pretty much anything other than that!)

Sorry to hear you had a stroke. I was trying bio oil for stretch marks. I haven't kept up with it. I think I read it was good for your face also. All in all I liked it and if I was still working I would buy more.
I say give it shot, can't hurt.

I've always meant to try it to, it can't hurt. I say give it a shot for a couple weeks.

I'm really into natural stuff, so I can't remember the ingradients but I think it definitely got me interested.

No doubt it's better that that super chemically stuff that makes everything worse.

PS - I was wondering about those Yaz commercials and the lawsuit ones. That pisses me off that there are probably so many young women at risk.

I'm super afraid of hormonal birth control, so I never took it but it just doesn't seem right that they could market something like that. I hope you keep getting healthier.

Thank you so much! I am certainly trying and feeling a ton better all ready!

I have been trying bio out over my face serum and under my eye cream and foundation primer for maybe 3 days now? I don't know about healing effects but it certainly does make your skin super soft!

Oh dear! A stroke! How horrible. I hope you are feeling better now. This confirms that I really don't want to go back on the pill. Here I was thinking it was maybe related to the drugs and alcohol. Pfffft I swear prescriptions are just as evil!

As for the topic. I'm using it now on a scar from a mole I had removed. Seems alright so far. I don't think I would put it on my face though. Oil on your face? It doesn't seem right to me. Why are all makeup products, cleansers etc. "oil free". Won't it clog your pores? Note I haven't read the ingredients so apologize if that's a stupid comment.

I know some people use tea tree oil on pimples, but I actually read that any sort of plant oil on your skin causes breakouts.

Well I have perfect skin in regards to blemishes. I was just using this to prevent my skin from aging. It hasn't caused any sort of break out so far...

Bio Oil isn't anything terribly special -- it's mostly mineral oil, with a bunch of other oils thrown in, along with some antioxidants. Properly prepared and stabilized antioxidants are great for skin, and the mineral oil and some of the other oils are fine. Problematic is the fact that it contains lavender oil, rosemary oil, and citrus oils, and other fragrance/masking substances, all of which are known skin irritants. Even if you don't see/feel a reaction, they could be leading to cell damage and inflammation. The chamomile and some of the other ingredients can also cause allergic reactions in some people.

It's really important to remember that just because a product is labeled "natural" doesn't mean it is. In fact, there is no legal definition for "natural" and it can be slapped on any product. Even if something IS 100% natural -- whatever you think that means -- that doesn't mean it's necessarily good for you. Arsenic and lead are natural. Poison ivy is natural. Don't want to slather those on, do you? Whenever you hear a product manufacturer ragging on other products for being "chemicals" or "artificial" or whatever, it's often just spin. EVERYTHING on Earth is a chemical (water, anyone?) and lots of "artificial" things are not only safe but excellent.

As for aging skin, the number 1, 2, and 3 thing you can do to prevent it is wear sunscreen, wear sunscreen, and wear sunscreen. Early and often. Make sure it's one that protects against both UVA and UVB.

P.S. As for the oil-free and clogging-pores topic ... mineral oil won't clog pores precisely because it doesn't solidify -- it stays liquid. Oil in general is not bad for the skin, and products that say they are somehow better because they are oil free are just making up shit to sell bottles of product. Some oils are fine, some aren't. Some oil-free products are fine, some aren't. It's all about the details, not the marketing. For example, there is no legal definition of hypoallergenic or non-comedogenic, even though those terms are slapped on a ton of product? Again, made-up marketing shit.

It's been a while since I looked it up. I'n not a fan of mineral oil myself.

Actually lavender oil is good for your skin as far as everything I've read. It is soothing and antiseptic.

Oil actually prevents breakouts for me. It balances my skin, but maybe mine is dry?

    Keep us updated.

I have been using it since the day I first posted this and I don't have many lines really or anything but I have noticed my skin seems to be slowing getting "renewed" and it's SOOO soft. I wish they sold it in like a gallon so I could bathe in it too!

Sorry ... it may have mild antiseptic properties, but that's outweighed by the other factors:

lavender extract and oil. Primarily a fragrance ingredient, although it may have antibacterial properties. There is no research showing it has any benefit for skin (Sources: Phytotherapy Research, June 2002, pages 301–308; and Healthnotes Review of Complementary and Integrative Medicine, ). It can be a skin irritant (Source: Contact Dermatitis, August 1999, page 111) and a photosensitizer (Source: Family Practice Notebook, ). Research also indicates that components of lavender, specifically linalool, can be cytotoxic, meaning that topical application causes skin-cell death (Source: Cell Proliferation, June 2004, pages 221-229). In addition, the fragrance constituents in lavender oil oxidize when exposed to air. This not only makes lavender oil pro-oxidant, but also increases its irritancy on skin (Source: Contact Dermatitis, September 2008, pages 143-150).

Hmm maybe my skin isn't sensitive? It's been working out great for me so far, however I wouldn't recommend it for super sensitive or super oily skin. Or if they have that maybe add a touch or water to it in your hand to make a tiny bit got a long way!

I researched the "cytotoxic" effects of the lavender oil.

There probably aren't enough studies to decide for certain, but I can see where it's better to be cautious.

That said. I'm sure a lot AHA's, bha's and glycolic acids are technically deadly to skin cells too. I mean wouldn't they have to be to be such effective exfoliators.

I've used lavender oil on my face for years and I still get carded at 34 after boozing and smoking for way too long.

That's no proof, but it makes me wonder if I should be that afraid.

Lavender has thousands of years of history as a treatment for wounds. If it killed cells why would that be. Not all traditional medecine is bunk.

One theory I read thought maybe it is toxic to cells that are already dysfunctitonal.

I would appreciate any more info though before my face rots off.

I wonder how high on bio oil's ingredients list lavender oil is?

I used Bio Oil on my boob job scars. It worked great! After four weeks I noticed a difference.

I now use it on my face at night. It makes my skin soft and fades my pigmentation marks:-)

I haven't used bio-oil, but I do use a mixture of pure shea & cocoa butter on my face-absolutely awesome results. And, generally, natural oils absorb into your skin as long as your skin is damp when you apply the oil.

OK so I just junked all my moisturizer cause the first ingredient was "lavender extract". Not clear what that is exactly, but I haven't liked my skin since I've been using it.

I'm glad I read this. We'll see cause I used to have fucking great skin now it's so so.

I think I'm going to go back to oils again - coconut, shea, jojoba.

I used to nake homemade creams and stuff and never got a wrinkle. Where do you by yours. I used to live in Berkeley where it was easy to find but where I am Maybe GNC?

I LOVE using pure shea butter on my face and hair! I have never used jojoba though, how is it? So far though this bio oil is working wonderfully!

Makes me want to try it.

Jojoba - the only thing I remember is everyone says it's the closest to human body oil and therefore great.

    But, I can't remember.

Willing to try it all again of course. I'll let you know, it's my next "beauty" purchase.
