    Default Dancing to oldies

What do you girls think about dancing to some oldies? Does ANYONE do it? I though it would be pretty original. Id like to hear some opinions on it and maybe some suggestions. A few I was thinking of playing were:

    -Hang on Sloopy-The McCoys

    -Rocky Mountain Way-Joe Walsh

Seen lots of dancers dancing to oldies. Some that come to mind are:

Layla - Derek and the Dominoes (aka Eric Clapton)
    Cocaine - JJ Cale
    Foxy Lady - Jimi Hendrix
    Alright Now - Free
Pride (in the name of love) U2
Walk on the Wild Side - Lou Reed
Born Under a Bad Sign - Albert King
In the Midnight Hour - Wilson Pickett
Take a Little Piece of my Heart - Erma Franklin
    Mannish Boy - Muddy Waters
Should I Stay or Should I Go - Clash
    Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
You Can Leave your Hat On - Etta James

    Fairly eclectic selection there....

    ^^^

The juxtaposition of Free and Wilson Picket in the above list made me think of this:

This is Free in a German TV Studio in about 1970.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAPEypRsD8Y

And this is Wilson Pickett doing his cover of Free's song in 1972.

Same song - two very different interpretations....

How about "The Stripper" by the David Rose Orchestra? The guys over 40 just LOVE that one.

That one is super old, though.

How you guys are defining oldies is both amusing and a trifle sad for me as I remember them being played on top 40 radio.

Some oldies (as I define the term:songs from the 50's through the mid-60's) that I've personally danced to:

    Bus stop- Hollies

    Rave On- Buddy Holly

Will edit to include more when I'm not typing from an iPhone.

    All Shook Up- Elvis

I love dancing to oldies. Right now my favorites are "You Don't Know How It Feels" by Tom Petty and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" by the Rolling Stones.

Most of those I don't call "oldies"; esp. when referring to them when talking to the dj..they usually are called 'classic rock' unless it's 60's pop tunes or 50s.
I do best to classic rock and always have...

I met a girl at my club on Thursday who ONLy dances to older music between 60's-80's and dresses like a hippie and moves so gracefully, and it's incredibly sexy.

I danced once to "Copacabana." (You know, "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl, With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there") Got some tips and smiles, had some fun.

However, when I returned to the floor, an older man made a beeline to me and gave me a $20. "This is for you if you promise never to dance to that song again. Barry Manilow - ugh." Hee hee.

Ok, i know we are about to enter 2010 and all, but really, 80's tracks can't really be called 'oldies' - whatwould you call 40's or 50's tunes then?? Classical??!

I used to dance to a few Julie London tracks, Rumble by Link Ray, Etta James Make Love to You - it's a good way to break up what can turn into a monotonous night and makes you stand out, especially if you out together a good routine to go with it.

I danced to oldies all the time and loved it! I always had fun and it showed I was having fun with it so I made more. I used Jerry Le Lewis, Elvis, lots of mo-town, and some classic rock like Zz Top. It is always worth a shot you may like it better than any other kind and you would stand out if you are the only one, which in this business is a great thing!
