...and can let go? I've been trying this off and on for a few months. Still can't get it. Also, the flagpole.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks![]()

didn't really post in the right forum but I will bite. It took me a little over 3 months to be comfortable performing the knee hold without any pain or discomfort at all.
You really need someone to teach you these things- step by step. Do you have a teacher?

Do you have a pole at home? For me it was psycological more than anything. I wasn't able to let go till I dragged my mattress under where I would hit if I fell. Also, having your ankles locked the right way is really important.

No, I don't, but I've been in classes off and on for 5 months or so. Other holds just came easier, so I would move on to them. But now I'm pretty determined.
(If I got the superman in 2 days, I know I can do it with the right mindset. It's just a feeling that I'm not used to).
But thanks ladies for the tips.

I just thought of a possible intermediate step. When you get into the knee hold position, hold onto your top ankle. It kind of pulls your knee a little tighter on the pole and makes the hold feel more secure. From there its pretty easy to let go. Sorry if you already knew that.

Are you locking your hips out? Lean back into it, make sure there is a straight flat line from your ribs right thru to your knees, no bend by your hips. It wont feel right unless its locked out![]()

^^ good suggestion but there are floor exercises she can do to get comfortable and strong in this position.
Never hold on to the ankle, you can put too much pressure on the joint and cause injury. Instead, hold on to the lower shin.
AND, ask your instructor- IN PERSON where you can be corrected before you injure yourself.

Ah, see this is why I hurt all the time when I did pole. My instructors sucked --- no mentions ever of this stuff. To compound the issue, the studio owner asked me to teach. I said no, because I have no certification. Thanks to Nikita for the correction.

It's just practice. I can do it but I can only do it once or twice a night otherwise it hurts my leg. Once you have the leg positions right you just have to train yourself to let go and see what happens.
You just have to be really determined, watch how other girls are doing it and try to imitate it. It took me about a day of really trying hard to do figure it out.
