Default Sick of not being motivated to GO to work

I don't know what to do to get myself into work. Money, co workers, club, patrons, etc are all good, so it's not like I'm working in a bad environment. Once I get to work, I'm fine, but it's the part between waking up and taking a shower/doing makeup where I get stalled. I am typically not a lazy person, either, so it's not that. Any ideas?

working night shift didn't work for me for this reason. basically, dicking around all day and waiting for 7pm to arrive caused me too much anxiety. so i switched to dayshift. i wake up, shower, and then it's time for work. no time to talk myself out of going.

Can you post your schedule on a social networking site? That way, customers will make a point to follow your schedule, leaving you obligated to go in.

I used to do this to kick my own ass into the no-schedule type of clubs. Got a few guys from here to come visit me, too. That had me feeling the work ethic big time, that way.

Camille, that totally makes sense. However, I literally talk myself out of work before even getting into the shower. Somewhere between waking up and stepping out of bed to get to the shower - that's where my decision-making happens that determines whether or not I will work that day.

Paris, great idea if I had regulars. I barely have any bc I work off of new people coming into the club, partially because I never technically know when I'll be able to work. With the past two non-strip club jobs I've had (one of which I still have), I could get a call/text that very morning to let me know that I can work. Therefore, I can never tell a customer, for sure, if I will be in, nor can I really count on seeing the same customers.

if you're talking yourself out of it before you can make it the ten feet to the shower, maybe something is off. sometimes, your mind knows things that you don't want to admit to yourself. i could be reading too far into this, but i used to have panic attacks in the parking lot of work. for weeks, i would drive to work, have a panic attack in the parking lot, and drive myself straight home. every night. i finally admitted to myself that i didn't feel safe at the club. even though i loved the dancers and mgmt and owners there, something did not feel RIGHT.

eventually, i forced myself to go, and what do you know, some dude molests me in the champagne room. only added more fury to the anxiety.

switching to a different club and working day shift eliminated almost all of my anxiety. i hope you figure out what's bothering you so much about going in. good luck!

    Exotica268,

Paris is right on about posting on a networking site. Get a twitter account and even if you have no one on it at first, put a little post up on a day where you know you 'kinda' plan on going in and you're about to walk out the door or hop in the shower for work.. The momentum will propel you forward and will trick your mind into thinking that each new patron came in for you, whether that's true or not.

Works for me and after a while, when you start getting people to 'follow' you, it will motivate you even more. Offer an incentive for mentioning they saw your twitter post after a bit, and see how long it takes to kick in. You can even just ensure that the first two for one or dance special is reserve for them or something, they won't know the difference. I promise you it will motivate you like no other!

    Good luck!

I am the exactly same way you are. I find myself finding a new excuse everyday about why I shouldn't or don't have to go to work. I like my club too, its just I focus on all the bad experiences and awkward moments and it freaks me out a little bit.

I worked last night (bc I had talked myself out of tuesday and wednesday) and I did very very well. My advice is to just think about all of the good nights you have and how nice it will be when you get off work and have some extra money in your pocket. Another way to look at it is to think about the money that you are missing out on. Ask yourself, would I pay $500 to stay home tonight? (or whatever your average is)

I'm going through the same thing right now. I feel like I've fallen into a rut. I'm pulling myself out of it by changing up my daily routine. I also have a mental list of motivators that I've shared with my boyfriend and when I get that "I don't waaaaaanna go" feeling he reminds me of these things, things like:
-if I work all weekend I'll have rent really early and will be relaxed for the rest of the month, or will be closer to paying of the credit card/going back to school/buying the cats a new cat tree/getting a new bed, etc. Very specific goals that I can only achieve by working hard. And if that fails I've given him permission to make me feel guilty. Do you have someone who might do this for you?

If it's a really bad week and even a guilt trip doesn't help I think of some way to reward myself, like I can take Sunday off if I go in Thursday through Saturday, or I'll go to my favorite used bookstore and get five new books. It isn't a perfect system but it usually does work.

I work at a scheduled club... so someone WILL call me if my happy ass doesn't show up, but being that even when I was unemployed, I never lost the idea of a schedule/order of daily events. Do something fun before you go to work... me, I always stop at the store and buy a slice of cake and bottle of water. The water was just to help me through the night and the cake was a reward if I got a drink out of a custy or a lapdance. :p

Maybe create some artificial motivators. <shrug>
