Unscented deodorant. Works likea charm!
I assume you're talking about the pubic and bikini area? If so, I had the same problem. I made it part of my routine to apply Witch Hazel with a cotton ball on that area right after shaving/showering (also good to use on butt bumps, face and chest if you use makeup there, not to mention all the men's faces that end up there lol). Then I put clear gel deodorant on the whole area. Not only do I get very few & unnoticeable bumps, but the whole area is super smooth and I can shave every other day or even days in a row if needed. That's just what works for me, I don't know how effective it is person to person. I've also heard a lot of girls say they use Bikini Zone which can be picked up at any drugstore, really effective.
Oh and if you try the Witch Hazel it may sting a bit the first few times. Also I would say to not shave the whole thing for a few days and just trim up as needed so it will heal, then shave and try it out.
I almost forgot, what kind of razors are you using and which direction? I use a 3 blade minimum disposable with shaving cream. I would also say don't use a razor more than 3 times at the absolute max and make sure its rinsed out well each time. If you're shaving in an upward direction, that could be the biggest problem. Most people say shaving downward creates the least friction, I shave side to side and down, it doesn't require much pressure.
Wow! I sound like some kind of weirdo pubic grooming connoisseur hahahaha That's what works for me, hope that helps.

Deodorant is the best thing in the world for this, I've done it for so long that I don't even have to use it anymore. Put it on right after you get out of the shower.

A lot of girls use things like deodorant, Bikini Zone or toothpaste (wth?) but none of those have worked for me.
I have really sensitive skin, and the only thing that clears up the little red bumps that develop in the hair follicle (for me) is Neosporin/Polysporin (or some antibiotic ointment), and washing with an antibacterial soap. Apparently the irritation caused by shaving is an infection, so keeping it clean and applying first aid cream works.
Also, if you get a big, red ingrown - this sounds gross but - hemorrhoid cream will take the inflammation down and it'll look less red.
Good luck!

Laser? I really need to get it cause I'm always getting ingrowns.

the deodorant trick has never worked for me either. When i first started out my skin was real sensitive but it seems to have "toughened up" or got accustomed to being shaved regularly. These days i shave with salicylic acid body wash, and immediately after (while still in the shower) i apply body oil over the shaved area--i like cocoa butter oil. Once i get out i put Nivea lotion over it. Works great, but it might just be me.

imma tight wad so i buy a generic version of neutrogena body clear body wash at cvs. It lathers up great and for me it prevents rashy outbreaks.

For future ref, you should post threads like this in the "body business" forum. Also, if you search there you will find a bunch of threads about this topic.

One of my friends got me to start using A&D ointment right after shaving... and it works really well! You can find it in the pharmacy.

Woo hoo!! I knew my Cosmetics and SkinCare expertise would come in handy one day!!! I got this!! lol
Okay, so, i worked the Men's Fragrance and Skincare counter for a department store for a while...so i can tell you what works. How do i know it works? I had customers swearing by this product..so....yah. I slapped it on myself. I am shocked my skin hasnt fallen off with all the "new" crap that would come in...
Anyways, the skin care line, specifically tailored for men's skin is Zirh. Shaving comes from ingrown hairs, as we prolly know. How does one prevent or reduce the chance of ingrown hairs? Its all in the prepping of your skin before the shave.
No, taking care of your skin does NOT make you gay or whatever sexual. It shows you have a real concern about healthy skin...and besides, what lady wants stubble and stuff messing up her skin??
Zirh actually makes it easy for guys...buy the Shaving Essentials kit (around 40 bucks). This kit comes with a pre shave oil...which you apply to the skin AFTER you lay a hot rag on it (opens up the pores). The pre shave oil lubricates the skin and makes the hairs stand up...so the razor can catch em (and not your skin). then...you use the Shaving Gel (moisturizes the skin during the shave). Once you are done shaving, apply the Astringent...this seals the pores after you shave. then..your moisturizer..and voila!! The key to controlling ingrown hairs is proper skin care..most guys dont even take into consideration that shaving actually tears the skin up...no matter how much gel/foam you may use. (for heaven's sake...do NOT use soap).
Zirh can be bought at any major department store (Macy's owes me money for this damn endorsement) or a Sephora...and you can also order it online.
for a cheaper version...before you shave, leave a hot rag on the skin for about a minute or so...use a moisturizing shave gel, rinse and use a facial moisturizer.
Thats pretty much it. Now, to heal exisiting razor bumps...I have to get back to you on that. I discovered a really good skin product in CVS for men..and heck if i can remember the brand right now.

Exfoliate, then shave, then use dial (reg dial the gold kind). When you get out use Dove moisturizing deodorant. When you get home from work after your shower (or w/e) use desitin.

Sorry I missed church. I was too busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian.

yup, i use deodorant too. After waxing, I use bikini bump stuff. But after shaving always deodorant.
Also, every night after showering- I pat my ass w/ baby powder to remove moisture. It REALLY works! I rarely wake up w/ what I call "stripper ass".

TendSkin is supposed to be really good, too. I'm pretty sure Sephora has it. I just shave with mens' razors and shave sideways and downward direction. I also MUST use shave gel, not soap, and then use aloe vera moisturizer afterwards.

What direction are you shaving?
For a long time I used to ignore all the advice people gave about shaving in the direction of the hair because it isn't the closest shave, but for the past couple months I've been shaving that way and BUHBYE kitty rash.
Also, I also shave when I'm in the bath tub so I can soak for a few minutes to let the hair follicles relax. I use hair conditioner in place of shaving cream and ALWAYS a fresh razor. It's expensive to have to change the blade 5-7 times a week, but if its not brand new I always end up with cuts and ingrown hairs.

Tendskin works well followed by Nivea for men Post shave balm, keeps it soft and sexy.
