I don't recognize them anymore. I didn't realize I was so visually-inclined.
Anyone else have this problem?

I think I'm more numerical. In parking lots, I always look at the license plates when searching for a car. To bystanders, it looks like I'm fascinated by the ground. My dad had his license changed once without telling me, and then let me borrow it.. wow, what a day. I spent twenty minutes in front of Safeway trying to figure out why there are so many Toyota Camrys in the parking lot, with none of them having my dads license number

We actually remember stuff easier if is visually striking. Pretty well all the varying systems for memory teach you to come up with vivid mental images to aid retention.
The image I use for 10 is actually the head banging smiley from this site:If you can imagine a mirror image of it, that how I remember objects associated with the number 10 - I make up a little mental story associated with that smiley in my mind.
That's also why you remember people by their avatars - providing the avatar is striking. I'll bet you don't remember commonplace/nondescript ones.

^ Thanks for the psychological breakdown. The thread is actually about personal experiences though...
^^^ For me, I think it depends on the member.
Some people change things up regularly, so it doesn't effect me when they use a new one. Just sort of used to the change.
Other members who keep their avatar for a long long time, I'm sure I create an association with them.
Actually the hardest part for me is when a new member joins and uses the same avatar as a former memember. When I see their posts, I'm reminded of someone else. Heh.
If you can't win. Make the fellow in front of you break the record.
^ Yes!! I do the same!
Yup, I'm more inclined to identify members by their avatars. Especially when I'm scrolling through a thread, it's easier for me to identify posts I may find of interest or posts I'd rather skim over completely.
