We all have our moments, right?
Well, I do.
I got a few PMs recently about how I lost my weight (not really how I lost it but how I maintain a healthy weight for my height). Also I've been reading some threads about dieting vs exercising and friends vs weight loss etc.
I've struggled with my weight like crazy... I've been everything from a size 0 to a size 18/20. I was stuck in a size 12 for a really long time too.
Naturally my build is thin with large breasts... so a size 12 does not look good on me at all where on some women 12 looks like Va Va Voom... ass, titties, small waist, figure models. Size 6-8 is my optimal size where you can see my waist and I don't look like a refrigerator with boobs. At a size 0 my ribs and spine show and I swore I could see my teeth through my cheeks. Not a good look at all. That being said, size 0-2 looks GREAT on some girls (usually super short cuties with lil gymnast bodies).
When I have those moments where I feel like I'm gonna pig out... this is what I do:
#1 - don't pig out on processed foods. this is the BIGGEST THING!!! If you want a big ass burger with fries and chili cheese on them... make your own burger. Cut your own potatoes and fry them yourself. Make your own chili. If you want a big ass chocolate cake... flour, sugar, eggs, milk, cocoa powder... you get the idea. Duncan Hines or your local bakery is not the way to go.
#2 - if you're gonna do wrong, do wrong right. if you know you're about to fry a whole pound of chicken wings and eat them between the hours of 10pm-5am... use organic hormone/crazy shit free chicken. use corn flakes and egg whites and paprika and seasoned salt. use canola oil.
#3- make your own salad dressings. Sour cream + ranch flavoring doesn't have all the high fructose corn syrup and sugar and egg derivatives and all the other crap store bought salad dressing has in it. Look at the ingredients in your fat free salad dressings. then look at your motor oil. do you wanna eat that? no. but a $3 salad spinner from Wal Mart and spin some vinegar, oil, and raspberry or blueberry jelly in there and a little goes a long way. KETCHUP IS THE DEVIL. But it's so freakin' good. Make your own ketchup. Instead of 25-50 calories per tablespoon, it will be like 10 calories per tablespoon. Salsa is your friend, btw. 5 calories and super easy to make if you get a Vidalia chop wizard.
#4- if you want butter - eat butter. "margarine spreads" are HORRIBLE for your body.
#5- soy is good for MOST people, but not all. if you have hormone problems, soy might actually contribute to weight gain and unhealthiness.
#6 - organic is good if it's actually organic. the FDA has really interesting rules on what can go in our food. buy locally whenever possible. it's cheaper than buying that organic baby spinach mix thats been sitting in a bag for a week before it gets to you.
#7 - canned veggies are shitty. buy fresh or fresh frozen.
#8 - soda's "acid" doesn't make you break out. i promise you. unless you have a citrus allergy - the "acid" doesn't mess you up. The caramel coloring doesn't matter. light soda vs dark soda...really does not matter (unless youre avoiding caffeine). the average fruit juice has wayyy more sugar in it than a soda does, and actually has very little nutritional value. If you're reaching for the OJ but want a pop and are gonna drink 20 oz of OJ - you're screwing yourself over. Eat an orange, get the fiber and vitamins from that. Then go have your soda.
#9 - even if you fuck up really bad one day... start the next day like the day before never happened. wake up, exercise, eat some oatmeal, yogurt... don't start cutting and restricting to "make up for it". you'll screw your metabolism up.
#10- ignore cravings only if you can. if you REALLY want chocolate to the point where you're willing to rob a 7-11 for a Snickers bar or five, you've ignored your craving for too long. When the urge hits, do something healthy. If it doesn't go away after you tried to distract yourself...make hot cocoa with dark chocolates and skim milk. Sometimes cravings are a good thing. Are you craving candy? Try some fruit or a natural sugar. Your sugar might be low. Are you craving a big steak? Try a filet mignon and some green veggies. Your iron might be low.
Basically... our bodies WANT to be exercised for a few hours each week. Our bodies WANT a healthy diet.
Sometimes shit happens and we get too fat or too skinny... and when that happens, before anything drastic... increase your protein. Even if you do nothing else, swapping some carbs or some fats for protein will make you lose weight or gain weight. It balances your body in the best way ever.
For people who need to lose a few, I highly suggest Medifast's 4/2 program. 4 shakes and 2 healthy meals. For people who need to gain a few, I highly suggest adding Medifast to a high calorie diet. It's protein at the end of the day and it does your body good.
