Anyone tried this?
I've been trying to use it to sleep and a little for anxiety.
I noticed I yawn about 30 minutes later, but I'm still up and it's 7:30am.
It's not working as well as I thought, maybe it's the brand.
Also, what are the side effects.

I personally think that lemon balm(melissa officionalis) is a much better herbal remedy for insomnia.

Herbal remedies can be great, but it sounds like you're taking it in capsule format. The thing about herbs is that their effect is only as good as their shelf life. Herbs are most potent when freshly picked and their potency will slowly deteriorate over time. Not sure if you have a health food store or co-op near you that might carry it in it's fresh form, but that might be something to try (or better yet, grow your own little herb garden). I don't know the side effects off the top of my head, but I do know that some herbs and some medications don't mix well, so try to research that if you are taking any other meds/birth controls/etc...
Chamomile works well for me, and melatonin too (non-herbal supplement).

I like the celestial seasonings extra strength sleepytime tea with Valerian. It works really well for me.

I love Valerian. But ya, it doesn't put me to sleep. It just relaxes me. I take it in small doses at work to calm myself and a big dose before bed. I take it in tablet form. It definitely doesn't make me tired. I just lie in bed and feel all relaxed and warm and cosy inside which helps me fall asleep faster if I have too much on my mind. I also find it doesn't last long (not the whole night). If I wake up after 3 or 4 hours I can't feel it anymore.

Valerian isn't regulated by the FDA. Hence, no one has really tested a proper dose for individuals. OTC valerian has only worked when I took way more than the recommended dosage. And I don't think its really a sleeping aid, although a very relaxed person might want to sleep.
Fuck it, just take some Advil PM.

I agree with KiwiStrawberry, AdvilPM works very well. If Valerian doesn't work for you I would definitely give that a shot.
Try melatonin kittygirl, it will help you reach an extremely deep state of sleep, but I found personally that it gave me uncomfortably realistic dreams. There's tons of literature on melatonin online, and you can buy it at any Walgreen's.
I have been using Valerian Root for the last couple of years off and on and it always works for me. Maybe you can up the dosage and see if that helps.
I havent heard of the lemon balm Ill have to pick some up when I go to the vitamin store and see if it works better.
I hope you get your sleep back on track.

There is a drink called Relax "Drank" in a purple can that started being distributed back in May of 2009 in Michigan. I'm not sure if it has spread across the entire country, but it's main ingredients are melatonin, rose hips extract, and Valerian root. You might consider picking up a can to try it out! It tastes like grape soda, has no caffeine.. obviously.. and is meant to help you relax.
As far as OTC supplements go, I prefer melatonin supplements. They work far better in my opinion.
If you are willing to do for one year what other's won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what other's cant.

I wish Melatonin had worked for me a lot of people swear by it...it made me have really vivid dreams which I wouldn't mind if I had got a good sleep but also I woke up a good 4-5 times during the night as if my sleep was really light.
Valerian is good, I take a couple of capsules most nights, it definitely isn't a strong effect unfortunately but nice and relaxing. An eye mask really makes a difference too(funny enough as the dark helps the body's own melatonin production)?
