    Default Brain Fog?

    Hey all.

As I mentioned in another thread, I started a low GI diet not too long ago (basically, staying away from simple sugars). I thought it would make me feel really clean/healthy since I've started eating whole grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish, chicken, etc. But I feel like it has done the opposite! I've been having minor vision problems (similar to how you feel when you're tired), and sometimes my brain just feels...cloudy.

Have any of you ever experienced brain fog and successfully remedied it? Can food allergies cause this? Is it a gluten allergy? Am I not getting enough sugar? Not enough Vitamin D (since the winter just started)? Any and all ideas appreciated...even if you don't think they apply to my situation!

Low GI diets usually exclude fruit or most fruits, but fresh fruit has enzymes that make it possible to absorb other nutrients that are usually locked in fiber.

I would get that way too, and started feeling really not well by the end of the second week. Try eating something like an apple or orange and see if that doesn't help a bit.

Also, Vitamin D deficiency will cause you to feel fatigued and can cause low level depression, too. I take a D-3 supplement every day in the winter, and that has helped me break the tanning bed habit.

Sweetie, it sounds like you might be celiac (gluten allergy). I am celiac, and used to have the same experience, like I would eat pasta or a sandwich, and after it would feel like I was in a haze, almost seeing through things and unable to focus. It would be so bad that sometimes it would feel like I had been drugged.
You should try a week without gluten and see if it helps. For me it turned my life around, and I also lost about 15 pounds in the process!

that's exactly how i feel, along with shakiness, when my blood sugar gets low. Frequent small meals help prevent it. If i get to that point though a small serving of orange juice clears it up.
