    Default Neck lump CT scan

The latest in my great health history, ha ha.

I've had a lump in my neck just below my ear in that little spot between the ear and jaw bone.

It's gotten bigger, to about the size of quarter, over the last nine months.

My ENT said she felt it in March but it was probably just a scarred lymph node. Asked my asshole GP to double check in June and he said it was nothing and I was worrying too much.

Well now it's doubled in size and pain radiates through my ear and neck.

Went back to my ENT because I got financial assistance with the local hospital (thank god because I have no insurance).

She now claims she can't feel it (that's funny since she felt it last time), had a nurse sit in on the exam (never did before), and scheduled a CT scan (pretty thorough considering she didn't feel anything).

I'm just thankful she's not blowing me off.

Are these CT scans really thorough? Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

This thing just bothers me. I'm just so thankful I can get care, so many other people aren't so lucky.

Just a side note, but I really think it grew exponentially more since I had to quit pot. Hmmm.

I don't know if this is what you have, but maybe its the same thing I had. I got a lump/bump on the back of my neck that stayed the same size for about a year (about the size of a pea). Went to the doctor and he said it was nothing. Then what seemed like overnight, it grew to the size of a grape. I went to another doctor to get a second opinion. He said it was a syst under the skin and was a common occurance. He saw this often in his practice. He reffered me to the surgeon down the hall in his building, and he removed it the same day in his office exam room. Since then (about 4 years ago) I've gotten another one on my upper chest. He says its the same thing. Nothing to worry about, not cancerous, just annoying. To backtrack a little, I had the one on my neck removed when it started to cause pain. He said the syst was pressing on some nerve endings. I don't know if this helps, but let us know what the outcome/resolution is, OK.

CT scans seem to be pretty good from what I know. I hope everything turns out to be well for you!

A friend of mine at work just had a similar issue and hers turned out to be a cyst. Which, is not fun, but also is not typically serious.

CTs are excellently thorough, especially with a well-trained physician.

A lump should be biopsied actually. My dad had a lump in his neck over 10 years ago and it turned out to be a tumour knowns as Hodgkins Lymphoma. He had a biopsy and then had the lump removed and a course of radiotherapy. Thankfully it's very treatable and he has been in full remission from 5 years ago.

The other danger with a lump being in that spot is that it can block your corotted artery which can cause oxygen supply to be cut off to the brain and pretty much instant death. I don't mean to try to shock or scare you but I'm suprised your doctor didn't biopsy it.

My dad's surgeon said it's such a dangerous spot to have a lump because of the corotted artery.

I hope your lump turns out to be nothing serious.

was it a swollen lymph node? that's pretty common when u r run down and sick. i had a bad cold recently and my lymph nodes were really swollen and sore. As long as it goes down after you get better u know it's just your immune system.

Yes, but I wasn't sick. I was stressing a lot when it came out.

Stress puts a huge strain on the immune system. I get all sorts of physical symptoms from stress and anxiety.

Yeah, I know. My gyno told me to try not to stress, due to my hpv. To avoid my biopsy from coming back positive.
