    Default Booty Buildiing Sneakers?!

The Facts About Building the Perfect Booty!

I don’t usually write about a specific bodypart, but I was inspired to by the recent development of companies selling booty building sneakers claiming to “help make your legs and butt look great…” The Reebok “EasyTone” sneaker probably being the best known, but there are others. The Reebok version claiming to be based on “balance ball technology” and “tones your butt up to 28% more just by walking.” I’m sure many of you have seen the commercial, but if not, here it is:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCHKX...layer_embedded

I see that commercial on TV and I want her to ditch those goofy sneakers and find the nearest squat rack! So back to reality: if you want a well developed shapely athletic butt and legs, no pair of sneakers is going to give it to you. Like any muscle, you will have to develop it the old fashioned way via exercises such as squats, lunges, split squats, and straight leg deadlifts.

As with any bodypart, some are more genetically gifted in that area then others, but make no mistake, anyone can develop a firm well shaped booty with the right choice of exercises, consistency, and other factors (i.e., good nutrition so said booty is not just made of muscle blurring blubber!).

Sorry, no sneaker is gonna do that for you…

    Increased potential for Injuries?

Another essential issue here is, do these shoes increase the potential for injuries? A site reviewing these sneakers says “… the shoes activate your lower body muscles when you walk creating natural instability which in turn tones your legs “

Natural instability? Women are already at greater risk of knee injuries, and adding instability to the foot, which will increase instability to the joints and ligaments of the ankles and knees, will only increase the potential for injury to women. Bad idea…

A slight increase in activity of the muscles of the legs and butt due to the added instability is not worth the potential increased risk of injury.

    My advice, avoid.

Side rant: I just have to take a moment to rant a bit about this specific commercial. If you are going sell a shoe that (supposedly…) shapes up your gluteus maximus, shouldn’t you use a model that has one?! Holy Flat Backsides Batman! This gal has virtually no butt. Now I’m not hating on her; she’s a very pretty girl – and for a typical TV model type – in great shape, but booty is not her strong point... I mean really, is that the behind most women really want today? Or put more succinctly, is that what the general non-athletic public considers a well developed booty?!

    Viva la round athletic booty!

Yeah I saw those, tempted for a second but the reviews I read weren't good.

What about the other ones though? The Skechers, the premise is different. They look like clown shoes.

I've read a lot of good reviews on them and a lot were from people who work on their feet a lot. Others said they felt the muscles more than walking in normal shoes

They are like round on the bottom. It's not the instability idea it's more like a larger range of movement and smooshy.

I don't think it's a replacement for exercise, but a little extra can't hurt. Anyway, the type of people who walk primarily for exercise aren't always the same ones you can get to pump iron or squat with medicine balls. So, even a little more tone is welcome.

If you can look these up, let us know.

Link? If they work by creating instability, I know my opinion would be the same.

I think they're totally bunk too, but I tried a pair on while my g/f was boot shopping a few days ago. They're sorta -wobbley on the heal. I guess that's to make your body work harder to balance and help strengthen your muscles more?

Total crock of poo, I think. I get more of a workout just walking around in high-heels. I second squats! Haha

Will, what do you think of these? My trainer used to have my do squats, with weights, atop one of these. It was HARD!

Thanks for all the info, Will! I think they're silly. Nothin wrong with hitting the gym and lifting REAL weights.. that's how I developed my posterior chain and I get no complaints I just can't see that being done with these shoes. And you're right about the model, too! Where's the booty?!

I had to watch the video because the model in the commercial rolling around in the bed has a perfect ass. Anyways yeah its just another way to sell miracle weight loss ass to lazy people who dont want to put in the work for a great body, its targeted to the same group of people who want to get the perfect body by taking a miracle pill.

Well I think it does that and even goes beyond.. these commercials send several messages to all women, and they promote being objects of envy and desire.

When used correctly, nothing wrong with unbalanced exercise per se, but putting it in your shoes where stability is essential, not such a smart idea.

Will, just saw the Reebok commercial tonight and thought of you. And you're right. While the women is lovely, and has nice long slender legs, those are the resut of genetics, not working out. She has NO ASS AT ALL. Or, ass of 8 year old boy!

Glad I'm not the only one to notice. I hesitated putting that comment up on a female oriented forum ('cause you now how shy I can be....) as I expected some to call me a sexist D bag woman hater, etc, etc. But she really has no ass!

The commercial is so infantile. The camera man, being enamored of her (non existant) butt, can't help himself from focusing the camera on her butt while she's talking. What kind of message does THAT send? Blah

I smelled BS the first time I saw these shoes. It's amazing what people will fall for. And they're ugly

Dansko clogs are ugly too, but at least they are good for something!

Thanks for the rant! I feel better now.

I just wanna let everyone know that I actually own a pair of Reebok Easytone Inspire shoes (actually fairly fashionable sneaker)

    *ahem*

I haven't had them for very long, but I will say a few things for non-believers:

    • I used Bath and Body Work's "FitFlop" shoes when they were out a couple years ago and noticed my legs did shape up, especially my calves. $50 flipflops but they were crazy comfy, very durable, and I felt they worked, so it was worth it. When I saw that there was now a sneaker replica of the fitflop, I was ecstatic.
    • I typically have very bad posture, but after wearing the Easytones, I have noticed that unconsciously, I do have MUCH better posture. The balance pads create a very "rolled" step which creates a wider stride, and straighter posture.
    • The wide stride and rolled step are, what I feel, the real secret here. I was in Marching Band in High school (Yeah giggle all you want) and we marched with wide strides and rolling steps, only obviously in flat performance shoes. My legs looked great then, too. However, it is very annoying and very hard to consciously maintain this type of stride (plus it looks awkward in flats) in everyday walking. With these shoes, the stride is completely natural.
    • I've walked a lot wearing these. Done a bunch of Christmas shopping. I will say that I definitely do feel leg muscles working differently than in normal shoes, and in a very good way. I did wake up the next morning after walking around in them all day and my thighs and glutes did hurt like a bitch, as if I had spent all day on an incline.
    • The "inbalance" the pods create are not noticeable at all. You stand still and don't wobble back and forth (unless you're just absolutely an off-balance person, but then why the hell are you a stripper if you have no balance?!)

Also, the shoes are insanely comfy, but I don't know if I'd recommend them if you have wide feet. They are very supporting, and they are SUPER snug. They hug my feet and cushion it better than any shoe I've ever worn.

Because of the inbalance and the balance pods, I don't think I'd recommend running or jogging in them, but powerwalking probably wouldn't be a problem.

So yeah, at first glance these can seem like a joke, but I feel the shoes actually work and are worth getting. I did pay $110 for them and I don't regret it, but some girls on here may want to wait for a sale or coupon or just for them to go down in price in general. But I will say to all of you: Don't knock it til you've tried it!

If you do walk a lot, I highly recommend them. Like I said, they do improve your stride and posture, and they're very comfortable. My feet didn't hurt at the end of all my walking (my muscles on the other hand did feel a tad tender!) and I felt like I could even go for more.

I wanted to add my two cents.
I am thinking about going and getting a pair. I have been thinking about it for a while, but money has been tight, so I have been putting it off.
I work out five times a week for about an hour and half. So it isnt like I am outta shape or anything. I cant run or do any really intense cardio anymore as I have some heart issues. I also recently found out that I am pregnant!! I am ten weeks and 4 days today. The hubby and I are very excited about our first baby.
Anyway, I was hopping that even if they just help a little, any little bit to help me stay in shape during my prego months would be great.
If I do get them, I wil be getting the Sketchers. I will definitly post again and give an update as to my opinion of how well they work or if the instability issue is an issue at all for me.

I haven't noticed issues with the instability, and like I said, I've noticed a huge increase in my walking posture, which I'm sure almost all pregnant women need with their baby bumps!

But I'm not sure if the instability from the Reeboks would be great for your back with the added weight. The sketchers probably would be much better for you.

    Also, congratulations!

I'm thinking about getting myself a similar pair. Not the Reebok "Easy Tones" and not the Skechers "Shape ups" but the generic ones by Danskin. You can get them at Wal-mart for $25 compared to the $100+ price of the other ones. And if the results are pretty iffy, I'd rather save $75 until I'm positive about the results. As far as everyone has said they don't help you loose weight and they may not even help you tone up, but they are comfy for someone who is on their feet all day. So I think I'll buy the $25 ones and keep my expectations low.

Well I have been looking in to the sketchers shape ups.

My thoughts? Well it seems to be almost the same effect as wearing a high heel am I right? Only this shoe is more along the comfort lines of a sneaker. Anyone that wears stilettos knows that they tone up your legs and butt by just walking in them for a few hours.

ok so I just had to get my hands on a pair of skechers shape ups.

I bought them for $145 at my local mall.I live in Canada so I assume they are around $110 or so US.

Now I am 5'7 tall and 130 pounds. Not overweight by any means. I eat well, exercise and generally take care of myself. I do smoke alot of weed, but other then that I do not smoke cigs or drink. Overall healthy 24 year old woman.

I do not buy in to the makers claims about ditching the gym or whatever. These are good shoes-very comfortable and easy to wear. However as per their claims for weight loss and toning? Well if you are in decent shape like myself then these probably are not going to do anything other then provide you with a comfortable shoe.

You know how when you walk in 3 inch pumps you feel it in your calves and butt? Well this is a similar feeling with the exception that the shoe is comfortable on your feet. It feels good, but I don't know if this truly replaces a work out. Maybe if you are overweight, don't exercise and put junk in your body-yeah this will feel like exercise. But for the average in decent shape stripper? Probably something to add to your daily routine (as you walk to the gym), but not going to replace a gym visit.

I like this shoe so far.
