Default How to use myspace to promote?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you use myspace to promote your camshows? I have a myspace with pics and with my streamate listing on it.. but I don't really have many friends on there. Should I give the myspace to my customers? Or just add lots of bands and stuff and comment on their page so people will see my profile and hopefully check it out? I can't add anyone I know as I don't want it exposed to the wrong people who might see me on there. Is there some good method for promoting yourself this way?

Its very simple but it deals with how you want to go with it. I have two friends that use it, one does it public and the other private. Public you put up nice, clean pictures and write alittle about yourself and your site, tell some of your costumers and wait, if you can't just join a webcam group and people will look over the members list and see you avatar. It open invite.

Private is keeping it to a select few, mostly custies that have spent some times and money on you, it makes them feel special, but it means you have to keep notes on who spent enough of you. You have to give them a pass code to ask to invited.

If you need it more clear just ask.. I'm sick today so half the time I don't know if I made it clear enough.

You need help cleaning it up? You can make it private and have a passcode (most of the time the name you signed it on) To weed out people. My friend would keep track of user names or personal names in a notebook and when they reach a goal they would get in private the passcode to be able to add themselves but ask them to put down their usernames to make it get accepted faster. As long you keep it clean and not too much info it should work.

I have a personal myspace and a 'stripper' myspace. First of all, make sure you go through all of your account settings and don't put your full real name - it doesn't show it, but if people that know you in real life search your name, they will find that page.
Personally, I have mine set to public, add any friend requests that come my way [and depending on how slutty my default pic is I get lots] and on my page is just links to whatever cam site I am working on and a link to my stripwatch page, sometimes my dancing schedule if I work the club. FYI, www.StripWatch.com is like myspace for strippers... its set up the same, only not as nice.. but in the year or so that I have had that account I have only recieved one paying customer from it. Unless you are worried about putting yourself out there or being seen by the wrong person you really have nothing to loose if you do it right. I don't respond to many messages, you get alot of guys just thinking that you are hot and wanting to hook up. Usually you can tell if they are douchebag timewasters or an actual potential costumer, and that is how I decide who to communicate with.

Myspace is on the out. I have my webcam persona up on there (used to be my stripper profile now it is my webcam one) however even I hardly use it or log in to it because I know that ... honestly... Myspace is on the way out.

Twitter + Facebook, IMO, are the way to go. Just disable chat in Facebook so you don't get harassed online unless you are a independent cam girl thus you can use it as a way to get someone to buy a private session with you.

MySpace also faces a demographics problem. Its users tend to be younger than Facebook's and therefore have potentially less value in the eyes of advertisers, said Matt Tatham, spokesman for Hitwise, a research company. http://edition.cnn.com/2009/TECH/06/...ack/index.html

I am too scared to do facebook. LOTS AND LOTS of family members on there. Its just too close to home for me. Joining the webcam and stripping groups on myspace is a good idea. Thanks! I'm definitely going to go the public route. I don't want to make it pvt and keep it just for customers or anything. I want to use it to get more customers. Even if it doesn't work for much, it can't hurt.

Thumbs up Re: How to use myspace to promote?

Maybe you should just use blogspot or something instead, since you like to write anyway. You can post pictures, media, blurbs about yourself and what you do in your spare time, and your camming schedule, etc. there. I know Facebook can be quite revealing, based on how people are "located" on it, but if you had a blog somewhere and just wrote cute stuff for customers, and things like that, they'd be able to comment on what you write, etc. and maybe even let you know when they're planning to see you again, while you maintain a little more privacy.

MySpace IS kinda old news as far as self-promotion goes. Just because application spam and younger people have kind of taken over and made it a sort of... wasteland for networking. The thing that you might like is that you can keep your anonymity a little better there, but you may also get lost in the shuffle because there's so many pages of crap for people to sift through, that just getting them to you, and then getting them to spend time on your page, is going to be a task in itself.

Most people really do use either Twitter or Facebook. I don't see why you couldn't just make a fake email account and have it redirected to your actual email account, and use THAT to set up your webcam persona Facebook page?

*(I do this with a GMAIL account - the gmail is the account i don't care about, and all my mail to that account magically shows up in my REAL inbox too. Just be careful you don't reply to any private messages from your REAL account, and you'll be fine!) By the way, doing this gives you a chance to screen your mail as it comes in, before you respond to it.

There are ways to go about doing things without giving up too much of your personal info. Maybe don't post a bunch of pictures or media of you on it, limit it to customers only, and make it so you can't be searched for on Facebook. ***The other thing to keep in mind here is that, customers may want to maintain their privacy as well. In most cases it's probably not a big deal, but don't expect to have a lot of friends on MySpace or other social networking sites. You're a fantasy, these guys have girlfriends/boyfriends (possibly?), wives and families they've got to worry about.

Basically, all you're doing with a social networking site, as a web model is just letting people know that you're available, and that if they're interested, they can find you at X location during Y time period or whatever. Don't get discouraged because you're not getting people to add you. Your only concern should be for getting people to view and spend time on your page if you're using it to promote yourself, or your services.

If you'd like to get more information about how to work self promotion or affiliate stuff, just do an Internet search for affiliate advertising or affiliate marketing, and follow the guidelines on how to get it started. It's basically the same thing - generating traffic from one site to another, right? (...Apparently this affiliate shit is where the money's at, because Streamate, and other high traffic cam sites have TONS of affiliates promoting them... That's something else to think about, too.) $$$

Also, if you're going to use one of these social networking kind of pages, make sure you're keeping it up to date, customers WILL appreciate fresh info or commentary, and it'll let them know that you've not fallen off the face of the earth.

    Good luck.
