What are you actually looking for from such a drink? Muscle Milk tastes good because it's high in fat. Fat tastes good....

Personally, I prefer to make my own via some whey isolate, blended with what tastes food to me, such a frozen fruit, etc.

I was looking for something to help supress my appatite (sp) and move along the process of turning fat to muscle.

LOL! Its high in fat and fat taste good explains a lot.

Remember, it's mostly the form of exercise you choose and diet that decides whether or not you produce muscle, fat, or both.*

Whey is a very helpful protein for sure, and I am a big fan ** but I wouldn't get too focused on some specific ability it may have to alter fat/muscle ratios. Having said that, whey can directly assist in fat loss, and does act as you wanted. See:

    The Whey To Weight Loss

I can either direct you to what I use for a brand without the long/tech reason I use/recommend it, or I can send you to yet another article of mine that covers all that.

    Which do you prefer?

Here's my recipe for a homemade Meal Replacement (MRP):

Two scoops CFM whey isolate, one cup water, half cup of favorite
juice, handful of frozen mixed berries, one
tablespoon of flax oil or Udo's Choice oil, blended in the old
    blender.

This MRP has approximately 370 calories, 36 grams of protein,
23 grams of carbs, and 15 grams of fat (or 40% calories from protein,
24% calories from carbs, and 36% calories as fat), making it a high
protein, moderate fat, low carb MRP.

    * = without going into a long and really boring discussion on hormones, etc in all that...

** = having written and published more on the topic then anyone on the planet.

Try Dessert Shakes (endorsed by Monica Brant) They're pricey but really good. Also, EAS Shakes are great and at Sams Club you can get the RTD ones cheap enough.

I doctor my vanilla shakes up ALOT. Instant coffee crystals, sugar free instant pudding (butterscotch, chocolate, etc), davinci sugar free flavorings, diet orange and root beer sodas... I never get bored. Mudslide is my favorite. Add black coffee, sugar free kahlua syrup, sugar free butterscotch instant pudding powder to either a vanilla, chocolate or mocha shake... Yummy!

Muscle Milk is just as nutritious as a McDonalds milkshake.
Gold Standard Whey is pretty good. Try mixing it with some yogurt instead of water and xantham gum also helps thicken it up (although it makes me pretty sick when i use the xantham gum).

That's another reason I make my own, the various soluble fibers they use for thickening agents, bloat my stomach. Some of the newer stuff is much better, the older stuff, like the gums you mention, I really disliked. I also just simply don't like my drinks thick. If i wanted a milk shake, I would get one. That's just me.

I like my drinks thick, which is why I use a little bit of yogurt in mine.

I will use yogurt, or frozen fruit, etc to thicken to taste (which also add additional nutrition, taste, etc) , but I dont want to pay for thickening agents, gums, etc. which add nothing to my nutrition and bother my stomach.

Check out my web site, you may have one of those "I know that guy!" moments if you follow the fitness/figure/bbing scene.

Yes, I am a regular on various sites like siouxcountry and others. Do you compete in figure/fitness/bikini? If so, take a look at my article "So You Wanna Be a Fitness Model?" here:

Yess I follow the whole bb scene. Not as closely as I used to, but I'm always lurking siouxcountry. I was trying to train for figure but I overworked myself, lost motivation, then school + my 2 jobs got in the way and I haven't lifted seriously for a few months.

If you're looking to work out a bit and have a good shake that tastes good, I use 2 different ones.

GNC Whey Protein Isolate 128 - Has a great taste. Used it for a while and it worked good.

Nutrex Pro-Gram - Awesome. The Taste isn't AS good as the GNC one, But still is a really great taste. But here the benefits are MUCH better. This has Whey Isolate and Casein Protein so you're benefiting from both, which in most cases, Casein protein is an important part of the workout diet. Since I switched to this, unless I find a brand with better benefits, I'll probably be sticking with this from here on out.

Some great advice on this thread... I started out on MuscleMilk until my circuit fitness trainer told me how fat you can become off of it! So, now I use Ultimate Nutrition IsoSensation or IsoFlex and mix it up with various recipes, much like what Will says a few posts up.

BTW- Will, thanks for contributing... you gave me some good tips!
