Default Sleep after a late shift?

Not a very interesting topic, but HOW DO YOU SLEEP AFTER A SHIFT?
I don't know, maybe I'm just crazy but after work I'm so wired. It has nothing to do with drugs or caffeine, I stay away from both (except for a cup of coffee right when I wake up). I sleep fine any other night, and I do have a medication I can take if I need help sleeping, but at 3am when I get home from a shift, not sleeping outweighs taking a sleeping pill and then sleeping through the entire next day.

I guess this is more of a rant than a discussion topic, but if anyone has a similar issue I'd love to hear how you deal.

I would really like an answer for this too. I haven't danced in a while, but after years of getting off work at 3 am and already having problems to begin with (I've had problems sleeping/not sleeping as long as I can remember) it is impossible for me to keep a somewhat normal schedule.
I've tried everything there is to do and I'm beyond fustrated. It ruins my life. It really does.
I'm exhauster right now on 5 hours sleep, tried to get up to borrow the car only I woke up a mere 25 minutes too late so now I am awake, exhausted, and not able to run errands.

I just deal with it. I've always been a night owl so even though I don't like staying up until 4-5AM and then sleeping until 2 PM, it's not completely unbearable for me. And there are some times when my body just seems to say "fuck it" and I fall asleep as soon as I get home and get into bed, and then wake up at 10AM and function fine all day.

I guess the best advice I have to offer is to try and get to bed "early" on your nights off. Your body probably wants to anyway.

I have no problem falling asleep when I get home. I have to drive 40 minutes home from work and that makes me even more sleepy. My problem is that I still wake up at about 8 or 9 in the morning and then I'm tired all through the next day. I don't really have much advice though, but I agree with Lola to just try to make it to bed early. Do something that calms you down or helps you relax.

You probably just need to mentally switch out of work mode and into chill out no hustle mode. Do you live alone? For me, sometimes chilling with my roomies for like 15 min when i get back winds me down, sometimes maybe smoking a bowl with them, sometimes not.

If you live alone... try watching a short episode of a tv show? South park winds me down (southparkstudios.com) and there are lotsa shows on hulu. I would advise something comedic and lighthearted though that doesnt flow into the next episodes or you might stay up watching tv all night!

Or if you dont like those.... maybe a bubble bath? Or a chapter in a book? Or maybe just meditating, concentrating on breathing slowly, while listening to relaxing music for 20 min?

There are also some natural sleeping aids... if you do a search you might find them. Personally, i find a winding down ritual to be more effective than chemicals though.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

Personally, I'm very dependent on ear plugs and an eye mask. I take a shower when I get home and then go to bed and don't get up until about noon or 1pm.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

The later you sleep in the later you will fall asleep.

I work 8-2am, drive home, shower, head hits the pillow by 3:15- 3:30 and I am at the gym by 9:30am every day.

Its just a matter of creating a sticking to a routine.

^^ Lol you really must be a super stripper. If you are at the gym by 9:30, i am assuming you are up by 9 and are getting less than 6 hrs of sleep. I would be a tired and cranky lady doing that on a regular basis!

I function at my prime on 5-6 hours. Any more than that and I get cranky. In fact, I am my MOST sluggish and irritable when I sleep too much.

Im jealous. I can function on smaller amounts of sleep but only if i drink a lot of coffee and then a few days later i end up sleeping a long time to catch up. I need a full 8 hours to be at my 'prime' and not have to depend on coffee or a 10 hr night of catch up sleep. I wish i only needed 5-6 hours though, i feel like id get so much more done!

I don't go straight to bed. I take a VERY hot shower. I make some food. I watch some tv, or I read and I let my brain slow down. After that I can usually always sleep because Im honestly exhausted to begin with.

Agree about routine. I am always up and going by 8:30AM-9AM no matter what time I go to bed. When I work I am home by 4AM and asleep by 5AM. It's hard to adjust to but once I got into the groove of it it isn't so bad.

I'm jealous too, BritneyIreland! I need 8-9 hours on a regular basis with a 10 hour night like once a week. And it's tremendously difficult for me to wake up before 11 AM. It's one of the many reasons I can't work a normal office job.

Forgot to mention this before, but I definitely agree that smoking a bowl when you get home can be a good way to wind down and get out of work mode.

^I'm the same Lola! Always need 9+ hours and need a full day of sleeping at least once every two weeks. But then again I usually miss a day of sleeping once every two weeks due to partying or traveling for work. I usually finish at 4-5am, get home in 10 mins, eat, catch up on stripper web, shower and then go to bed. You can still have a decent day sleeping in till 2-3pm. I can still fit in tv time, gym, cooking, dinner and getting ready for work.

Yes yes I need the routine.
I go to school and even though I'm on break right now and it's not entirely pertinent, next semester I have class Monday-Thursday at 8am!

I have plenty of sleeping pills.
But if I took them when I got home from work there'd be no way I could pull myself out of bed at a decent hour the next day.
I do take medication the days I don't work though.

I take melatonin, it knocks me right out. Watching a tv episode helps.

Yea, although for me personally its more of just sitting and chilling with my roommates in a chill circle. I dont always smoke because its not good for my lungs, but if the vaporizer is out then im game . But usually there is chill music on and they are in a laid back state of mind so its a much calmer environment from the hustle and bustle of work.

Christ girl! you are gonna be tired! Over the summer i had work then i had to be in the lab at 10 am and i struggled to make it there. without my adderall prescription it never would have happened.

When is your last class of the day? If its early i would suggest picking up midshift if your club offers it. That way you get the after work business crowd, a little bit of a break, then the beginning of the late night crowd. and there are less girls because the stragglers only get there at hte end of the shift. just a suggestion... it wont necessarily help you sleep, but that way you will have more hrs to do it and maybe then you could take a sleeping pill after work and have it worn off by the morning.

For me I only need six hours of sleep and every once in awhile I'll sleep nine hours straight.

On nights that I work I get home and surf the web. I'm in bed and asleep by 4am and up at 10am.

    Like clock work.

this happened to me when i was getting up at nine thirty every morning to go to class. i would start going to bed at like 8 pm (during the week when i wasn' working) and then when i started working the weekdays too, i would go to bed @ 3ish, and still wake @ nine. it was weird

i'm going to second the melatonin. it's not a sleeping pill so much as a chemical that your body naturally produces. my boyfriend and i take it sometimes after we've been rolling all night. works pretty good.

Oh man. I'm so bad- when I get home I just fall into my bed and basically die. I'm lucky I don't have skin problems because I ALWAYS sleep in my makeup. I'm always SO tired. I sleep from about 3:30am to 2:30pm. Ive always needed a lot of sleep.

Maybe take a nice hot bath, or read until you get sleepy? I find reading always cools my jets.

I just have issues that when I stay up too late, I become manic.
The past couple times I've worked though, I don't turn on my computer, I just take a bath, read a little, and then get in bed and do breathing/mindfulness/meditation exercises. Avoiding the computer has helped a lot. At 3am when I'm starting to feel manic-y, a search engine is the WORST accessible thing for my racing thoughts.
