    Default Texture Issues

    Hello!
So I have an over active gag reflex. I can not eat certain things due to textures mainly fruit and vegetables. You can imagine how unhealthy my diet is. I can eat them if the texture is eliminated, so I pretty much live off smoothies. I am curious if anyone has any good recipes or advice to over come this.
    Thanks,
    Jessie

Brush your tongue when you brush your teeth. As you get to the spot in your throat where your gag reflex BARELY starts to kick in, just hold it there for as long as possible. Eventually it'll kick in, but you can train it doing that.

Also try thicker stuff other than smoothies such as soups with a little bit of substance to them.

My husband has issues with the texture of fruit, too. He refues to eat apples, oranges, pears, really any kind of fruit. But he likes the flavor of orange juice and apple candy, it is the texture that bugs him.

He makes smoothies, too. If blending the fruit tastes better to you, there's really nothing wrong with it. Just pop an orange into a smoothie with some yogurt, honey and juice and you've got yourself a very nutritious meal.

Smoothies are awesome though, so that's good that you can handle them. I like mixing whey protein and/or yogurt into mine (lots of protein and amino acids). Are you cool with bananas? If not, you can try blending them in too. They also work as a good thickener.

Forgot to add: make your own v-8 juice. It's so good and all the nutrients haven't been depleted from sitting in a can.

If you can afford it, you should consider buying a high quality juicer. This will allow you to make more extensive use of fruits and vegetables!

weird. i actually love veggies and fruits but hate the texture of smoothies!

you can make pureed soups, too, so they're smooth ... that way you get your veggies ...
