^^^ Ugh, I hate that. I had a hacker awhile back that put this little 1x1 pixel square on my site that linked to some malware. It was a pain in the butt to figure out what was going on and then the hosting company insisted that the files hadn't been changed since I last changed them. I got it fixed, but now I'm looking at other hosting companies. I've just been with this one for so long that it's hard to imagine switching.

^^^ Well, the problem is actually that my hosting company has been re-sold so many times. I've been with the same company for ten years. When I first started with them it was two teenagers running the company from a server in their house. They were AMAZINGLY fast though at responding to problems. I could email them any time of the day and they always got back to me within an hour. The customer service just keeps going down each time the company is re-sold. I did track down one of the original owners though and he said he's still willing to host me, apparently he still does hosting on the side. That's probably who I'll go with.
I don't really have any advice to keep it from happening. I really think that it was probably a mass hack. Meaning I think someone hacked the server rather than my individual account.
I'm on wordpress now. A lot of people like it. I think it's somewhat a pain in the butt. The advantage is that I have total control over everything, including what I post (such as adult industry topics) that I couldn't post elsewhere because of the Terms of Service Agreement. On the downside I am responsible for dealing with my own blacklists of spammers. Blogspot updates theirs for their users, so you don't have to deal with that. I'll have days where there's no spammers, but the next day there's like 20. The good thing is there are mass websites available to webmasters to share blacklists, so you can block a lot of spammers in advance.

You know that about them and still stay with them? WOW.. They must be good! I mean I would have been left the hosting company a LONG time ago.. I'm too paranoid about content and all that .. I personally wouldn't stay with them but says alot when you've been with them for 10 years.
I used to have my blog on wordpress and found it quit confusing.. I mean it was just too much for me. I'm thinking about trying Live Journal ..

^^^ It's more that their prices were spectacular. They have recently raised them though and that one time I got hacked (2 weeks ago) was the first time that had happened. So yes, I am planning on changing hosting companies for sure!
I actually would suggest that you stay with what you have for your blog. I mean as long as its not against their TOS to discuss the adult industry... their format is REALLY good. Blogspot is so easy to get around. I used to be on livejournal and just could never get into it - I think it was too confusing, unless they've changed it.

LiveJournal is *very* picky about adult topics. (I don't blame them, there are a ton of underage users on that site.) They will let you post them, but you absolutely have to keep them behind a filter. Which means that no one can read them without an LJ account and they have to be added to your friends list. Fine if you want to just keep a private journal, but if you want to use it to generate traffic to your site, it's pretty useless.
And hi! I'm lurking becasue I plan to launch myself as an indpendent this summer. I'm getting my marketing plan and all the other pieces together now. You ladies are all extremely informative!

Hmm I'll stick to Blogger then!
Hi Taylor, Nice to meet ya! Independent what though?

check out naked hosting...when i was going to re do my membership site they were charging like 10bucks a month for unlimited hosting, bandwidth everything! they of course handle adult stuff as well.. since i dnt need hosting at the moment i havent used it...hell i still have hosting collecting dust and not being used.
still here.... just in another chapter..

i just switched to 1and1 for hosting and they are awesome. And they are ok with adult content (obviously as my site is a porn site! lol). Hubby has his blog(http://tikiloungetalk.com) on there too and hasnt had any problems with it.
