    Default Favorite healthy foods?

I'm trying to go dairy/gluten free, so I'm finding new (and really good) foods to replace my old addictions.

So far, some of my favorites...

Greek yogurt (with fruit on the bottom)--I know it's dairy, but it contains tons of probiotics, and is better tolerated by lactose intolerants b/c of how it's made.

Roasted Flax Seeds-- delicious with sea salt!! I put these on everything. Great source of Omega 3's, fiber, protein, and iron. Help reduce appetite as well.

Share yours!! Foods, recipes, combinations, anything! Where are my fellow health nuts?

I drink Perrier with lime to kick my soda urges. Haven't had soda in a looong time.

I cut down on the soda, except when I'm going out. I just get bored of water quickly.

^ That's a really good idea! I love carbonated things so that's usually why I get into trouble with soda. Sometimes I'll mix perrier with fruit juice too.

    Fav healthy food:

Almonds. Raw, dry roasted, coated in cinnamon. Can't get enough.
Fruit, even though it's high in sugar
Green beans and asparagus with grilled chicken or fish
    Ak-mak crackers with peanut butter
    Greek yogurt
    Dried fruit

Good for you, to be sure. I usually like milk in my coffee as my primary dairy usage and hemp milk just isn't good in coffee. Drinking it plain it tastes a little like plain protein mix (without sweeteners).

Congrats on going GF/DF. I made the switch voluntarily (no allergies) over a year ago and love it!

My favorite right now is quinoa. It cooks fast and is mild in flavor, so you can use it in many different ways. For breakfast I cook a 1/4 cup dry quinoa in water (bring to a boil, simmer and cook until fluffy.) I add cinnamon and agave nectar - then mix in slivered almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and raisins. So much better than oatmeal!!

For snacking I love fresh fruit. Persimmons and mangoes are a great way to get a sugar fix. Dried mango slices are my replacement for candy. Also, rice chips will help kick a potato chip craving. They are so good, really nice texture and great with Muir Glen's Organic Black Bean Salsa (my fav salsa.) I love kale or brussel sprouts with sea salt, my comfort foods.

Also, if you like baking, I would give this website a look: http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/. It is my holy grail of GF/DF. I've tried a lot of the recipes. I have friends try the food and they are shocked to learn that its devoid of the staples that most would think are necessary for cooking/baking. Her cake and cookie recipes are amazing!!

My advice would be to find substitutes for foods and flavors that you think you 'can't live without', chances are there is a GF/DF option that will be delicious and won't make you feel gross

    Best of Luck!

Just wanted to add that going off all these hard to digest/allergen foods completely changed my body. I got curves in all the right places, skin cleared up, BOOBS grew (went from a small A to a full B, sometimes even large B depending on my cycle). Hair grows better/faster, rarely get sick anymore, no depression, more energy, no more digestive problems/bloating... I could go on and on.

I haven't had butternut squash in so long. Do you boil it before you mash it? Or microwave?

I put broccoli in everything (salads, soups, roasted veggie scrambles. But I LOVE pommegranites (sp?). I'm going to make some chocolate/pommegranite clusters for our holiday dessert. My parents have a tree and it gave many lbs. of them this year

While my eating habits are horrible, and I do mean horrible, I manage to eat healthy from time to time...lol. My parents are both health nuts (dad is a bodybuilder and my mom is an ex aerobics instructor) so they're influencing me on healthy foods. I love any veggie that's steamed, with a little olive oil drizzled on. I also started eating whole wheat foods, (bread, pasta, rice). With just the little change it has seemed to make a ton of a difference lately. I also love almonds and greek yogurt...(vanilla and honey are awesome)

    Best sandwich ever:

    Whole wheat
    Avocado
    Tomatoes
    Baby spring mix
    Provolone cheese
    Mayo
    Pickles.

I die over it. I also am a fool for Indian food, which is mostly all healthy.

Bahuna paneer, how I am a slave to you.

I love flax seed. I'll put it on oatmeal sometimes...gives it a nice crunch.

If you like Indian food, palak paneer is awesome if you get it from a decent place.

Goat cheese. I heart goat cheese, the creamier the better.

Anyone who ever has had to room with me knows that I love pumpkin seeds... actually pumpkin anything. I snack on pumpkin seeds all the time and I think I've gotten most of my friends addicted to them.

    I also love:
    - Celery & Peanut Butter
    - Sunflower seeds
    - Cheese slices with salsa (whatever I can find at the store that's low fat & low carb)
    - Raw bell peppers & hummus or veggie spreads
    - Cucumbers (just sliced or mixed with vinegar & onion in the refrigerator)
    - Green beans
    - Peas
    - Artichokes

I don't really cook much these days... I try to stick to raw/steamed veggies & protein shakes when I am at home.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Pappadams from the indian section in the supermarket, in the microwave with no oil.
I have a few of these in the afternoons at work and they are gluten free, vegan, and so high in protein and low in fat! Everyone at work is addicted now too!

    Vegenaise
canned tuna + vegenaise + curry powder
COCONUT MILK (the vanilla is amazing!) http://www.turtlemountain.com/produc..._beverage.html

Coconut water (just discovered this, hydrates better than Gatorade even, naturally full of electrolytes and other good things, I chug it before bed to avoid a hangover)
    http://www.onenaturalexperience.com/...FRdhswodPnn4Jg

Wishbone spray salad dressings (very few calories for Ranch or Caesar)

Buffalo meat in place of ground beef in recipes (way less fat, way more protein, tastes the same)

buffalo doesn't taste the same as ground meat from a cow because the animals don't eat the same food. also you have to use a bit less buffalo when swapping for ground beef because it is leaner.

bison is also good and also has the bonus of being definitely sustainable compared to beef.
