    Default The movie Precious

Anybody else see this movie? I thought it was a brilliant portrait of the abusive mother figure. Right up until the end she found no fault in her role in the child abuse.

The book (Precious, not PUSH) was also excellent. That's what made me want to see the film.

i also think the book is better, although might be more painful to read. i think i understand why some people said it was disgusting, it might be because it's difficult to watch the girl's suffering, but also because a lot of movies & shows with similar subject matter seem to juice their 'victim's' suffering. this story is NOT like that at all. it's not like, oh poor young victim girl is getting abused, let's agonize over the details (*on a side note, i stopped watching most crime shows because they kill many good plots that way). instead it's like, wow, this growing woman went through hell and she's determined to improve her life.

one of my favorite lines from that movie is "sometimes the only light people have in the tunnel comes from within them"

I watched the entire film. Damn! I'm glad I didn't see it in a theater. Mo'nique did a good job at portraying the worst/evil mom ever! It was stressful and depressing and I haven't cried so hard during a film in a very, very long time.

    It's not for everyone.

I'm really interested in seeing it, but I know I shouldn't. I'm easily disturbed by strong violence/abuse/torture, etc., especially stuff involving kids. It would be the only thing I would think about for days. It looks like a fantastic movie if you can handle that kind of thing.

I don't want to give too much away, but I will say that the ending has some, um, hope at the end of the tunnel. It's hard to explain, but there is some good that comes out of it. And not in a fairy tale way.

I had never heard of it before. The cast is unexpected! Oprah "produced" it along with about ten other people. I am going to rent it today and watch it. It sounds really sad, but I am due for some emotional pain infliction.

I liked the movie a lot. I think that there was a lot of good acting, especially in the scenes with Precious and her mother. It showed that abuse and family problems are real, you know?

    I'd recommend it!
