Question for the medically inclined/trained on this board: What would be the likely timeframe from consuming tainted food, or drink for being inflicted by "Montezumas Revenge" (aka "Travellers Diarrhea", or even just the garden variety culminating in an urgent manner)? In some of the "few" events that have happened in over 2 decades of travelling, my suspected timelines from consumption to "1st attack" has been from 20 minutes to nearly 18 hours. All the google searches tell about cause & treatment, but say little/nothing about likely foods, or time. (Eg- was it the tainted drink consumed 24 minutes ago, or the maybe undercooked beef burito consumed over 24 hrs ago?). Please feel free to comment on any of the below cases:
Case #1- Prime suspect is sauteed mushrooms eaten at Chinese buffet (2 coworkers had been sickened on different occasions eating there), but the 17-18 hr. time interval seems a bit long. Another possibility might have been a pizza with a partial mayo based topping consumed 5-6 hrs. earlier.
Case #2- Fast attack? 30 - 40 minutes after chicken dinner @ Boston Garden, got it real bad. But could it have been the vanilla cream vending machine cookies that I ate 6 hrs earlier (got an isolated stomach cramp 2-3 hrs after that & before dinner)
Case #3- 3 suspects on this 1: The mixed drink with dirty ice cube (9-10 hrs), the cheese omelette (12 hrs), or the fast food burger (18 hrs).
Case #4- Fast attack?? This happended the longest ago, walked back to hotel (1 mile walk) after fast meal at McD's. Really can't recall what I had earlier meals. About halfway back, started feeling the urgent need. Made it to room OK. Had I been 5 seconds later, I'd be wearing brownjeans instead of bluejeans.
In the spirit of the season, hope all board members had enjoyable/safe travels this holiday season.
