    Default Keeping legs smooth

I've had this problem as long as I can remember. I will shave my legs in the shower, but when I get out I will get goosebumps and these little razor-like hairs will pop out.. and stay there. It will happen throughout the night. I can not get my legs to stay smooth! I've felt other girls' legs that stay gloriously smooth all night. What do you ladies do? Am I doomed by my genetics? Anyone tried those lotions that "minimize hair" over time?

I notice that on the sides of my legs my hair grows in a different direction than the tops and bottoms of my legs. They tend to grow at an angle. Try shaving the sides of your legs at a slight angle as you go up.

Also, try using a very slick soap instead of a shaving gel or cream. It lubricates the razor better and can make it easier to shave. You can also use a body oil like coconut oil.

How many razors do you use? Personally I recommend the Schick Quattro Titanium. 4 blades titanium lined, easily shaves all kinds of hair, and the best thing is this blade easily lasts a week without having to be replaced.

I used a Venus for years, but the Schick Quattro is the BEST thing I have EVER found.

Yeah, I've used the Venus for a long time now. Every once in a while I'll end up using the Schick Quattro and I LOVE the way it makes my legs feel, but as soon as I get that first round of goosebumps, it's over! I guess I'm damned to a life of prickly legs.

Ya this happens to me sometimes. I found making myself get goosebumps (turn water cool for a sec) and shaving with the goosebumps helps stop this a little.

Same here. I use the 'Venus' too - and although I change the blade every 2 weeks I still get goosebumps after shaving no matter what gel or creams I use in the shower. I use liberal amounts of 'Nivea' moisturising cream or 'Hawaiian Tropic' coconut body-butter, which are both fabulous for my skin - but I still get prickly after 2 days.

If I haven't shaved for a while, I use 'Veet' Aloe Vera removal cream for sensitive skin and my hairs grow back softer than if I use the razor. The Schick Quattro Titanium isn't available in UK High Street stores so I'll have to buy online.

Does anyone else get really itchy ankles and calves too?

Ugh, this used to happen to me all the time, everytime and I hated it! Then I moved from the cold north to sunny Florida where I had to shave everyday. The only thing I found that works - a combination of tanning and coco butter moisturizer right after I shave.

I had really sensitive skin, so it's almost like I had to "toughen' my skin up a bit and it got used to the shaving. Still, if I go a couple of months without tanning, my legs will start getting those red nasty bumps again...

    Good luck!

I use the Sally Hansen hair remover before I jump in the shower. Spray it on, leave it for five minutes then get in the shower. I shave too...gives you the smoothest legs you've ever felt.

I'd love to use this regularly...but Sally Hansen products are REALLY expensive here in the UK.

I use the cheapest razors in the world.
The little colorful ones without even lubrication strips.
No cream, no gel. Just exfoliate, wash, then shave before rinsing off the soap.

...I shave maybe once a week... and my legs are normally smoother than someone who forgot to shave just that day.
Maybe it's just me. But I had prickly legs with expensive razors, too. They're so soft and smooth now people assume I shaved just before work.
Not saying it'll work for everyone... but it sure made a difference for me.

I started shaving with Olive Oil makes my skin really soft but I also body brush first.

The Schick Quattro is the same as the Gillette Quattro here in the UK. I got one in Boots over the weekend

I used get the itchy ankles as well but the olive oil seems to have stopped that.

'ebonygoddexxx' - thank you for this. I'll pop into Boots and take a look. I'm going to give the Olive Oil a try for sure, my ankles just kill me when they itch!

The more often you shave, the more prickly you get....it's true! I try to use 'Veet' as often as I can, I can then go almost 8 days without needing to epilate or shave again...but I have fair hairs so they don't show too much. Like I said above, my hairs grow back softer if I use removal creams.

If I shave, then I'm doing it every 2 or 3 days and the pimples just come back!

I epilate my legs but i find the after a while the hair just breaks off as its that weak. So i wax them and then they are really smooth, almost like a fresh start.
I exfoliate all the time and i use one of soft exfoliating gloves to rub body butter in 3 times a week.

I agree with this, I get better results with a cheaper razor without those lubrication strips, they seem to get gummy straight away and clog up the blade or something.

I used to get the itchiness and/or goosebumps too, after both waxing(underarms and bikini) and shaving(legs).
The thing that definitely works for me is squeezing a blob of aloe vera gel onto my hand, then dropping on 2-3 drops of tea tree oil and mixing it in, then smoothing it over the area just de-fuzzed.
The tea tree is antibacterial and the aloe vera stops it stinging and is soothing.

If you are using the quattro and the lubrication strip is your problem buy the mens replacement cartridges (they fit on the womens quattro but are black instead of pink) I only use them now and goosebump hair is gone. Unless I insist on using an old razor....

Yesterday I got the Braun Silk Epil epilator. Hurt like a motherf***er and my legs are definately not smooth. I guess I'll have to wait for all the hairs to grow out so I can get them. It was so very painful, though. I hope it's worth it.

I have been using that epilator for a couple of yrs and it gets better and better each time. Now i barely feel it. It does work but you have to give it a few sessions, and i will go over my legs a few days later to catch any smaller hairs that hadnt poked through. You will have to wax them a few times a yr tho if the hair seems to break off.
