    Default Allergies to metal/pole?

So the past three weeks that I've worked I've broken out in hives all over my back, arms, and inbetween my thighs. I knew that the regular cleaning lady was on vacation so I assumed that maybe the person cleaning was using some different stuff and my skin just wasn't used to it. But last night I went to a party with a pole, did a few pole tricks, and broke out in hives again, only where my body touched the pole.

I was wondering if any of you have experienced this?
I've never been allergic to ANYTHING in my life. I worked for three months just fine and all of a sudden my skin just can't handle whatever is used on these poles.
I got some benedryl cream to bring to work next time, but any other suggestions?

I don't get it myself, but it's very common!

Do you ever get a rash on your belly from wearing jeans (where the inside of the metal button touches you)?

Alternatively, it could be something that has been used to clean the pole. (especially if it's some kind of kitchen cleaner or similar)
Or possibly a sweat rash / prickly heat.

I actually haven't worn jeans in years.
I thought it was the cleaner until the same thing happened with another pole.

Hmmm and def not sweat rash either.

I hate to point this out, but consider the possibility that your reaction is due to something that was NOT cleaned off the pole i.e. something 'left behind' by other dancers !

Yeah I know it is NOT other girls vagina juice.

I just wanted to know what people with allergies to metal do...

I have definite metal allergies, specifically nickel (in any amount)...sadly, not much i can do at work. I just avoid holding onto the pole/being against it long times. My club it is pretty easy to do that. My old club used to be more of an issues.

I had to quit at an otherwise great club because I was allergic to the pole. It was dark enough that nobody seemed to notice I was getting rashes, but I hated feeling itchy and gross all the time, and giving up the only fun part of my job was out of the question. I took a month off dancing to let my skin heal and went back to my old club (with a brass pole). If it's a nickel allergy, there really isn't anything you can do besides avoiding nickel. Good luck!
