    Default Well thats not good

SHIT. Foster dog is not diabetic..shes in renal failure. Diabetes would have been bad enough. She may end up staying here....no idea if she'll get adopted in renal failure. I dont mind..shes sweet..but it just wasnt the plan. A family in Jacksonville REALLY wants her too. Wonder if they still will want her after finding this out. Bad day for Lily...

That's awful. How do you ease her symptoms?

Oh no! How advanced is it? Can it be treated? I'm so sorry for your poor puppy.

Its early stage renal failure. She will need fluids, a round of antibiotics, and meds. Plus she'll need to go on a prescription diet. The prognosis is poor though..even with treatment the vet gives her a year. Maybe less. We're getting a second opinion, but I doubt it will show anything better.

The decision is ultimately up to the rescue, since they are the ones who will pay for her treatment. But I doubt they will put her to sleep until she is suffering. Right now shes still happy,so we'll treat her.

She will likely stay with me now though since the odds of anyone adopting her knowing that she will be gone in a year are slim to none. Which...I mean shes sweet and its not that we mind her being here...its just not the outcome we were hoping for for her obviously.

The family in Jacksonville had to decline taking her now. They were heartbroken over it..but they lost their last dog to renal failure and they just cant go through it again so soon. Understandable...if I was looking for a dog, I wouldnt want one that was dying either.

    This is Lily:

She is a beautiful dog. You are a good person to let her stay and take care of her until she passes.

Thanks. Thats part of the responsibilty you take on when you rescue though. Which is why not everyone can do it. When you aretaking in animals that have been abused and neglected (even though in this case she was neither) you have to expect a certain percentage to be in poor health. Doesnt make it any easier though.

She will be transported up north soon to see the rescues main vet for a second opinion. Not sure yet if she will stay there or come back to me for the duration. But my home is open to her if she needs it and I will love and spoil her for however long she has left.
