    Default Going Blonde!

So. I decided that I am going blonde. I haven't been blonde in ... oh, geez ... 8 or 9 years now (my mom had my hair bleached for pageants when I was a wee one), and I am at a LOSS.

I don't need help dying it - I'm an old hat at that one. I'm taking myself from years of dyed-black to platinum blonde. Yes, scary. So far, I'm on my first process and have some scary ass reddish orange streaky ugly hair. lol It will look better as times goes on. I'm planning on bleaching it over the next few weeks to get it looking good.

Here's my question - you lovely ladies with dyed blonde hair, what's your hair-care regimen? Any special conditioners? Special shampoos? Can anyone recommend good toners to eliminate brassy tones? Thank you so much, girls!

You absolutely MUST post pictures when you're done. I can't even imagine you as a blonde.

When I was platinum, I used Pureology shampoos. Pricey, but it lasts eons. Dont brush it when it's wet, wait til it's dry or it will break easier.

    I'm going red tonight myself.

    I certainly will post pics!

A friend recommended TIGI's Bed Head "Dumb Blonde" brand, so I picked some of that up tonight, along with my next bleach application.

Red is a GREAT color - I was a redhead for like, ever. I ALMOST went back to it tonight, actually! The weird reddish orange that the bleach turned it is SO ugly, I almost gave in.

I'm excited though. I decided on a platinum blonde for the top, and I'm going to do BRIGHT purple underneath. Eeeeeee!

I always use 'Garnier', 'Alberto Balsam' and 'L'Oreal' products on my hair - I have done for years with no complaints.

I think it depends how damaged your hair is, my hair is so damaged from bleach! I use tigi honey and oatmeal shampoo and conditioner which is really gentle and I love but the one you bought by them will probably be as good. I also have a spray in leave in conditioner because when my hair is wet i am scared of combing(dont brush when wet) through and snapping it and it helps keep my hair soft, I also reccomend coconut oil hair masks and if you ever use heat deffinatly remember to use heat protection. Sorry if my spelling is off I am half asleep if I can think of what else I found was good when I am fully awake Il post again lol

I went platinum blonde in September after years of dying my hair red and later black. It's a hellish process. Be prepared for numerous trips to Sally's and chopping off a significant portion of your hair. Mine was down my back and is currently shoulder length. But it can be done! I can post pics if you'd like.

Oh, before bleaching you should use a color remover like Loreal Color Zap which you can get at Sally's for 13 bucks. Apply that before bleaching as it will damage your hair less. Also, give your hair a break in between bleachings. I waited a few days between, although they recommend a few weeks.

I use Wella Ivory Lady toner. And Clairol Shimmer Lights shampoo for in between bleaching/toning if it starts to look a little brassy. Don't leave it on too long though or your hair will be purple for a while

I also use hot oil treatments after every shampoo and sometimes put a cap on and leave them on overnight. Proclaim professional spray on glosser works wonders when your hair is dry, it softens it up and makes it really shiny.

Protein fillers help, but don't overdo because it can make your hair break off. Do it once a month or so.

hope that helps! (after I posted like three times)

My hair is thick and kind of uncontrollably frizzy by nature, in addition im frequently lightening then darkening then lightening again(i know, thats bad). I also hate cutting my hair, so its well below my shoulders. For years I have always used Joico hair products. You can buy them @ some salons, I happened to see the product @ a store in a mall, and of course on ebay (and sometimes cheaper that way). 20 years ago my mom started using it on her hair because she had a perm gone bad, now 20 years later she still uses it and I have always used it. You would never guess my hair has been through hell because this shampoo and conditioner really takes care of it... *sorry hair, luv u* lol
    Something to consider.

I use Matrix Sleek.look shampoo, conditioner and treatments. They aren't specific to blondes, but I range from honey to playboy bunny blonde and these products are the bomb! I also find since my hair is dryer the more platinum it is, I won't wash it for several days. I've only washed my hair once so far since NYE! haha. If you have no roots the platinum doesn't look greasy for ages!

haha I was the same when my hair was platinum but its a bad thing that it takes sooo long to look greasy because it just means its really that dry lol

^ Ya I know. It's also cause I started on spironolactone for my acne so now my scalp is dry. I actually love it though because I used to be a giant grease ball and had to wash my hair everyday..sometimes twice?? But ya Im a little concerned as to how this is going to effect the blonde. I really don't want be any other colour ever. haha

Thank you for all of your wonderful advice! I'm already through the first bleaching, planning on doing another here soon. So far, no serious damage - but I have some HARDY hair. It's been through worse, for sure.

    I'll update my progress!

And LilMissSophie - I'd LOVE to see pics!

    LOL pics it is...

Started off red, had this color for several years...

Dyed my hair black for whatever reason, only had it for like six months...

Started stripping my hair in September...

After several weeks of stripping and bleaching and toning (and a healthy haircut) I ended up with this...

SO. 20 minutes left on my second bleaching job!

I hope it turns out ok. I have this dark, dark red layer in my hair from where my black hair dye was used the most heavily. It's proving REALLY resistant to the bleach. Any advice for the next bleaching job?

I have a shower cap on, and the bleach this time around will have been in my hair for about 60 minutes.

Anyone have input on hair foils, etc? Anything I can do to get this brassy crap and this dark red OUT OF MY BLONDE HAIR?!

I love you with the red hair! I actually prefer the pics of you with dark hair, but you are right... nothing turns heads like a blonde. And you do look hot as a blonde too .

I have put my hair through hell and back... i only finally got it where i want it a couple of weeks ago. It used to be bleached, then fire engine red, then a yr later black, then a year later bleached to be fire engine red again, then blonde, then blue (this was over 2 yrs), then i dyed it black (big mistake) with fusions extensions for a summer decided i missed bright hair, then i turned it blonde... i couldnt get it platinum like i wanted until 2 weeks ago.

if you go to a salon, research it well first. the lady i went to did not strip the color out first and decided to start with bleach and 30vol developer i think. we were going to do it in 2 sittings so i wasnt suprised when i left the first sitting with it orange.... i tipped her well. then the second appointment i had, despite the fact that i had tipped her well before, she put the bleach in my hair stuck me under the dryer then thought it would be appropriate TO CUT ANOTHER CUSTOMERS HAIR and left the bleach in my hair for an HOUR AND A HALF. that is WAYYYY to long. so yea, this got my hair not as blonde as it needed to be and damaged the hell out of it. i was super pissed off, especially since i had tipped her well enough the time before to deserve her full attention the second time around. so yea, make sure you do a lot of homework before going to a salon so you dont have an experience like this. my hair was extremely damaged after this, and i had new extensions in.... coconut oil and argon oil did wonders for healing my hair but even though i tried to apply it to the hair without getting on the extension bonds, it still managed to and ended up causing a lot of extensions to slip out.

if you dont have extensions in though, i def. recommend those two oils, they did a lot for my hair. after i got the extensions out i was able to turn it platinum (i did it by myself this time. i am too scared to go to salons after the aformentioned experience) and then get new microlinks and have hair left. now my hair looks fabulous . i need to get around to posting pictures.

for bleach, i really like the kaleidoscope blue tones bleach. strip your hair first, then bleach it until all of the orange is gone and it is yellow. dont bleach it all of hte way to white if you are trying to go platinum though, as soon as you hit yellow ditch the bleach. use a high lift hair dye... i like the ion high lift cool blonde with 40 volume developer. thsi should lift it enough and deposit cool tones to get it a nice platinum shade. however, it wont work against orange very well... it will get it a cooler shade but isnt strong enough to lift out hte orange tones... at least not in my experience. if you still want it a cooler shade, then try a semi-permanent no lift cool platinum dye... at this point your cuticle will probably be too damaged to use high lift stuff.

i also recommend mixing argan oil in with all bleaches and dyes... although i am not sure about the color stripping. but it mixes fine with bleach and hair dye.... and it will reduce the damage done to your hair.

also, make sure you cover it and apply heat. dont let the bleach itself dry out or it will really fuck up your hair and make it straw like.

other awesome products to keep it from turning to straw: the ion protein hair repair packets that come over teh counter at sallys, queen helene hair cholesterol. if it gets really bad, ion has a hair emergency something that is pretty awesome... its like 3 little bottles.

whew,... sorry this is so long.

The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

Oh no! Thank you so much! I made the mistake of not stripping my hair first (a stripper who didn't think to strip - fancy that!), so it's orange. Hence the desperate pleas for a good toner.

I have it DRENCHED in Infusium 23 which always does WONDERS for my hair. I'm just going to leave it alone for another week and let it get oily and somewhat healthy again. Another beach, some toner, and I should be there no problems.

You can see my pics on my facebook album!

You look pretty as a blond. But sometimes it has to do with lighting and angles of a pic. I happen to think you are strikingly beautiful with black hair, but the other colors work for you too.
